Chapter 16
I sighed, as I walked around the quite empty and quiet base. The Autobots and some of Williams Black Ops team had left two days ago to deal with Decepticon spotting in Beijing. I frowned at the thought of it, as I knew they were going to be gone for a couple of days, two days have passed, I have heard they were on their way back to base now soon to arrive in a couple of hours...I just hoped Optimus had kept to his word and stayed as safe as possible.
Oh, and I followed Ratchets strict rules; I wasn't allowed to leave the base, contact anyone out of the base, do anything dangerous whilst in the base. Do not go into his med-bay. I had to Behave while they were gone. Don't do anything stupid and if I didn't look after myself properly, Ratchet would kill me himself- Doctors exact words.
My lips pursed at the rules, while I walked down another empty corridor. My faded blue hair -that is now starting to go blonde, as well as my roots of my hair- rustled, as I walked. My dark brown eyes looking around the plain area.
I actually, for once, wasn't in the Autobot Rec-room, exploring the Autobot side of the base. I found myself on the human side, although I knew what side I was on, I kinda wondered about aimlessly. No I'm not lost...I think. I hummed a random tune, before turning down another corridor-
"Ow!.", I yelped out, as I head-butted another head, which followed a males voice saying, "Fuck!."
Groaning, I rubbed my aching forehead. I just broke Ratchets rule...I hope my forehead doesn't bruise...otherwise I am fucked, hopefully I can get away with it. I grunted in pain, while stumbling back, to look at a black haired male, whom rubbed his upper head in pain as well.
"Crap, I'm so sorry!, I didn't even see you and I was turning the corner!- plus I'm kinda lost!- maybe officially lost!, I'm not too sure-Ratchet is so going to kill me if he finds out-", I continue to blabber out random apologies, while the soldier in front of me looked at me with amused green eyes.
"Mate calm down!", The male spoke up accent strong, while waving off my apologies.
I frowned and shook my head, "Sorry!-", I cut myself off, before continuing,"aw crap, I keep saying sorry!, I'm so sorry", as I finished that sentence, I huffed and face-palmed at my failures.
"It's all right, I wasn't looking where I was going either.", he dismissed the apologies of mine and chuckled at me.
I puffed my cheeks out in frustration with myself, I so embarrassed myself in front of this soldier. Crossing my arms below my chest, I looked around awkwardly, as we both now just stood there.
"So...", He spoke up again, making me look at him with full attention, as I arched an eyebrow.
"You're lost?.", The soldier questioned, the side of his lips twitching up slightly.
"No.", I exclaimed bluntly, as I didn't look him in the eyes. I could find my way, I don't need his help. I got this!.
This time the black haired man raised his eyebrow, "Right, two seconds ago you were blabbering about being lost. Remember?.", He replied smoothly, while shoving his finger-less gloved hands into his military pants.
My lips pursed again, stubbornly I shook my head in denial, "I don't recall."
The male rolled his green eyes, smiling slightly, "If you say so, I'm gonna head to the cafeteria, Bye.", he started to walk down the hall, I pouted at the sound of food, as my stomach went against me and grumbled loudly.
Shoulders sagging in defeat, I spun around and chased after the male, "Wait up!.", I called out, the male stopped and turned slightly to me, with a grin, "Deciding to tag along now, eh?", He questioned, as we walked together.
I grunted, and rolled my brown eyes, muttering a simple 'whatever', in my defence, this made the soldier chuckle quietly at my childish behaviour. "Tyler.", The male spoke up, I hummed in question and looked at him with confusion.
"My name is Tyler, if you were wondering.", Tyler explained to me, introducing himself.
"Oh, right. I'm Cathrine.", I held out my hand awkwardly, at the same time Tyler held out his fist.
"oh.", I said dumbly and quickly fist-bumped the male whom was easily amused by my awkwardness. I was glad to have run into someone so easy going. I sighed, before blinking, as I noticed that we have arrived at the cafeteria, there were some soldiers here and there, but it did seem to be very empty.
I followed Tyler, whom allowed me to go first. My lips pursed at the food, as I grabbed some tongs and picked up the last sausage, to place it on my plate-
"Oi, You stole my sausage.", Tyler spoke up,green eyes narrowing at me jokingly.
I smiled sheepishly, "oh. Sorry?.", I said slowly, while putting some mash potato on the plate quickly, with some gravy.
"You really need to stop saying that.", Tyler exclaimed, as we walked to a table and sat together. I ate some of the mash potato, before looking at him, "Saying what?.", I asked, as my eyes wondered over the male, taking in what he looked like. I hummed lightly, he was quite good looking, looked young.
"Saying sorry."
"Sorry.", I said automatically, before mentally slamming my face into the table,"You just did it again!.", he laughed at me, before eating some of his food, black hair rustling.
"I know!", I groaned into my hands, "I can't help it."
"Well, lets make a deal.", I blinked and looked up at him, raising an eyebrow.
"okay, What?", I said casually, while cutting up the meat on my plate and eating some.
"Everytime you say sorry, I get to fling mash potato at you.", Tyler did a cheeky grin, while cutting up his own food-for his plastic fork to snap in halve, "fuck.", he grumbled in annoyance, as the piece that snapped off flew across the cafeteria.
I laughed lightly, "Instant Karma."
"Oh no, I was serious.", Tyler hummed back, in a reply.
I gaped at him, leaning forward on the table with narrowed eyes. "What makes you think we will be seeing eachother again anyways?, hm?", I raised an eyebrow.
"Well you do live at this base, right?. Plus I work with the Autobots. I'm one of their many Mechanics.", he told me smoothly, accent once again strong, "I heard The Optimus Prime is your guardian."
I tapped my fingers on the silver table, "Well...yeah, I can't deny that.", I nodded, it didn't surprise that the news got around quite fast.
The male grinned at me, he always seemed to be grinning. "bloody hell that's sick."
I giggled slightly, "You aren't American are you?."
The green eyed male smirked, "What gave it away?"
"I don't know, it might be the accent.", I replied cheekily, slowly getting used to the male as company.
"Ah, damn it. Been in America for 11 months and I still get caught out by the accent.", The male exclaimed jokingly, smiling brightly, "but, if you wish to know. I'm Australian, Grew up in New South Wales, before moving to Western Australia. Then I found myself in America by the age of 15, before joining the Military at 19."
I sat up straighter, "wow, why did you come to America?. How is it other there?.", I asked questions automatically, I haven't really met an Australian before.
"Eh, My parents were busy people, their jobs required flying to other countries a lot. They're actually in South Africa right now.", Tyler shrugged carelessly, before continuing, "It's beautiful, nothing beats home. It's where you come from, you know?"
I nodded casually, before wincing as I touched my forehead with my right hand, my left arm was still in a cast. I made 110% sure that it did NOT get dirty, otherwise my chances of survival went below 0.
Tyler frowned, "We hit eachothers heads quite hard aye?.", he chuckled slightly, and I smiled lightly in agreement, "Yeah, you're lucky to have a hard head.", I exclaimed, while rubbing mine again. I was kinda frantic about Ratchet discovering, I didn't want to be squished!, and that damn medic was intimidating!, and scary!.
Tyler noticed my nerves and leant forward, to pat my shoulder, "Don't worry mate, you can't even see anything, I am sure the Medic won't notice, unless he does his weird ass scans. Then you are fucked"
I cringed, "I'm doomed, he is going to murder me.", Tyler chuckled at my dramatic response, but nodded in agreement, "Yup, better start running while you can, I would be fleeing the damn country by now."
"That doesn't help my situation Tyler.", I groaned out, and pushed my plate and leftovers into a bin by our table, Tyler still had his plat with some mash potato on it, "I can't even leave the base.", I said while eyeing the food in Alert.
Tyler frowned at that, "Really?", I nodded, "Really. Strict rules, Since the Decepticons try to kill me everytime I do step out of the base.", I sighed out, and traced my right index finger along my cast with sad eyes.
"I heard about what happened.", Tyler spoke up, making me look up at the male with stinging eyes, "I'm sorry for your loss, no one should be put through that, especially all at once."
I bit my lip and nodded, "Thanks...but Nothing can change the past...they are gone now."
Tyler shook his head, disagreeing.
"No, they are always living, as long as you continue to live for them, as they live within you.", Tyler exclaimed wisely, making me raise an eyebrow, "I don't fully understand...", I muttered, fidgeting with my fingers, shaking my head in confusion.
"Every memory you have of them, lives within you. If you decide to forget the memories, one by one, you are slowly deciding to forget about them. Don't allow that to happen, share those memories, allow them to live within you and among others.", Tyler told me softly, looking at me with his bright green eyes.
I laughed softly, "It's hard not to though. It hurts to hold onto them...sometimes letting go is better than holding on."
"I remember saying that when I lost my younger sibling myself.", Tyler replied smoothly, my eyes widened at what he said, "shit, I'm sorry-"
I gasped when mashed potato hit me in the face, grumbling I grabbed a napkin and wiped my face, "You really weren't joking.", I muttered out lowly, glaring at the male whom smiled back casually.
"I told you, I was serious."
I then frowned, eyes going soft. "You lost a younger sibling yourself...", I muttered, rubbing my face, as my eyes stung more and more.
"Yeah.", Tyler spoke up, "I'm a middle child, older brother and younger sister.", Tyler coughed, before continuing, "Ashley passed away from Glioblastoma", he frowned at the word knowing all too well about it,"The Brain tumours got worse as days went by...They gave her up to two years to live...but she passed the 2 years mark. The doctors had hope that she may survive past 5 years, but...she wasn't getting any better, she was holding onto the last bit of life, you could see it in her hazel eyes.", Tyler explained, eyes sowing sadness.
"Her vision went to shit. She looked so weak, pale, and you could tell as days passed her memory was starting to be affected as well.", Tyler mumbled out, I frowned, easily feeling sorry for the Mechanic.
"She died two weeks after her 9th birthday, and I was 13 when that happened.", Tyler sighed out, leaning on the table more to get more comfortable .
"I'm sorry to hear about that...I honestly don't know what to say...", I muttered, rubbing the back of my head, feeling kind of guilty and bad about pushing along this sensitive subject.
Tyler shrugged. "All good, we all have our experiences with losing the people we care about, but if we don't stay strong for each other and fight together, who will?."
I looked at Tyler with understanding eyes.
"We are Brothers in Arms.", Tyler exclaimed positively.
"I'm not a soldier though.", I exclaimed, '-and I'm not a boy', I mentally added.
"You fight to survive don't you?.", Tyler raised an eyebrow.
"Well yeah..."
"You fight along us, against the Decepticons. Even though you aren't technically in the Army.", he continued, and I slowly nodded.
"I guess so?..."
"Then you are a soldier in my eyes."
