Chapter 1

"Oh hello, hello, hello, and hello." Mirid said walking past the dish-ware and over to the table. She didn't Sit down, she just stared at the table. Everything had been getting more tense lately with Princess Wasp taking the throne. More guards. Mirid thought Princess Mantis would have been the better Queen. Too bad, Wasp was always the ambitious one of course she'd take rule. It's always the strong ones that get to lead, not the smart ones.

She'd been trying to warn others but they thought her insane. "We need to protect the trees, the book told me so." But nobody ever listened, probably because she talked to inanimate objects.

"Mother who are you talking to?" A yellow Hivewing quite similar in looks to Mirid was the one that asked. His voice was high pitched and his horns were thin and long more like that of a Silkwing than that of a Hivewing. His name was Longicorn. The name fit him quite well even in the coloring and pattern.

"Just the dishware." Mirid smiled. Longicorn was the second born but usually the first up of her kids. The oldest and the youngest both looked quite alike. Both were mostly red like their father, but black like Mirids mother. Mirid got to name the first one, and named him Boxelder because of his red shoulders and his black back. Her third child was named after a species commonly confused with Boxelders but more after the nymphs of the species than after the adults, his name was Soapberry. Mirid had also wanted to name him Boxelder but luckily her husband talked her out of it and saved Soapberry and Boxelder a life of confusion with their names.

"Oh ok" Longicorn chirped.
"When do you think Soapberry might wake up today? Afternoon or morning?" Soapberry being the youngest didn't have a clear sleeping schedule. He would either wake up in the early morning or wake up in the late afternoon, never around lunch time. Though Soapberry was a very active little hatchling so they took frequent naps anyway.

"Afternoon likely. He was fast asleep last I checked." Mirid said with a shrug. Longicorn nodded and turned to leave the room.

"And Longicorn?" Mirid said.

"What is it?" He asked his ears flicking.

"I want you to get your blankets and some of your favorite things and bring them into the dinning room, ok? Then put fresh sheets on your bed." Mirid said this her smile on the verge of becoming a frown. There's going to be a war. I'm so sorry house that we will have to leave you She thought wistfully.

"Ok!" Longicorn said excitedly.

"Oh and if Boxelder wakes up, tell him to do the same." She added.

"Yes mom! But what about Soapy?"

"I'll take care of him." She said.

"Okie! Bye!" Longicorn said leaving the room.

Mirid smiled, it was going as planned. Maybe she could get Clovermite to leave with her. He was loyal to the Queen though, and had always wanted Wasp or Vinegaroon to become the next queen.

He also didn't love her. It was more or less a arranged marriage because Mirid was considered loopy by most dragons and her parents wanted the dowery money. She used to think Clovermite loved her but realized to late that he didn't care for her.
He wanted dragonets and wanted a family but no one liked him because he was so bright a red, when Mirid fell in love with him she thought that Clovermite accepted who she was and how she thought and thought Clovermite knew she accepted how he looked. She was wrong.

Mirid didn't know if telling Clovermite might even make it better. He might try and take their children and that was the last thing she wanted. He might be a good father, but staying in a war zone wouldn't be good. Clearsight you said to save the trees, and I'm sorry the Hivewings are going to be the reason you said that. I'll try to be good, I'll try and save some. I'll try. These seeds don't know their importance yet but they will.

She continued to stare at the table. A bag sat in the middle. It used to be a dice bag, but now contained acorns, walnuts, apple seeds, and pine cones among other things. Mirid picked it up there's not enough to save the whole forest, I'm sorry Clearsight.

Later in the day Soapberry, and Boxelder were both awake. Boxelder and Longicorn were both packed for the most part, Soapberry was too young to really understand what packing meant. Nor did he have any valuables. Mirid had stowed the bags in Soapberry's room. She planned on talking to Clovermite later at dinner.
