Ages: 15

Synopsis: Modern/Highschool AU; Gon is a preschool volunteer and Killua is his diligent schoolmate in Hunter Academy. They have seen each other only a few times, finally bumping into each other. Interesting as Gon seemed, Killua doesn't know how to deal with kids.

Warning(s): foul language...(I'll try to keep it at a minimum)
Cringe is also unavoidable ;)

Purple worn-out sneakers drummed across the smooth concrete floor, laces bobbing gently. A sophomore male with a head full of unruly, bright hair strolled along the sidewalk. His clouded eyes scanned a book held up by slender hands, deep sapphire irises glancing up periodically to avoid the people who slid by.

He skimmed the slightly yellow paper printed with tiny black letters, eyelashes fluttering softly against the prominent folds he adorned from every overworked day and sleepless night. Still, he continued to tirelessly memorize every math formula and the significance of many important, famous figures of the past.

Sighing, his pale hand snaked out of his pocket to rub furiously at his eyes. The sophomore groaned in annoyance as it became even more irradiated and angrily blinked the blurriness away. He shoved his hand back into his pocket, dull orbs directed back to the thick autobiography balanced between his fingers.

"I'm late, I'm late, I'm l-watch out!"

The 15 year-old's thin body was suddenly slammed forwards, arms straightened to break his fall as he skidded a small distance. He cursed under his breath, the palms of his hand stung from dust, blood beading across the peeled skin.

"Oh crap! I'm so sorry!" Breathed a weirdly familiar voice.

The white-haired male hissed softly in pain, glancing behind to look at the stranger. His eyes widened slightly in realization when large amber irises filled with guilt and worry along with dark, gravity defying hair came into view.

"Sorry, sorry, sorry. Oh my god, I am so sorry!" The other student shouted profusely, quickly offering a hand to the fallen boy.

"D-don't worry! I'll patch you up real quick! Just, come with me!" He stuttered, words tumbling out of his mouth. "I'm Gon, by the way! What's your name?" 'Gon' asked, eyebrows raised with curiosity.

"Uhhh, K-k-killua?" The confused male on the ground fumbled at the sudden inquiry, statement coming out more as question.

"Well, nice to meetcha Killua! Can you walk?"

"I-um...I think so." Killua murmured, eyes darting noticeably between Gon's outstretched hand and his own scraped ones.

Gon tilted his head in confusion, before finally face-palming at the fact that this boy's hands were not in working condition, therefore he cannot hoist himself up, "For the love of-I'm so stupid." He groaned, mentally slapping himself.

Gon squatted down and hooked his arms around Killua's legs and back, hands secured gently on his left bicep and thigh. The albino squeaked loudly, pupils shrinking in shock as his face burned hot enough to vaporize the sun.

"W-w-what are y-you d-doing!?" He yelped, struggling instinctively to escape, "P-put me down!" Killua let out a suppressed shriek as he felt Gon's warm hands contrast his cold skin.

"Stop squirming! Your knee is also bleeding for your information!" Gon yelled back, crouching back down to pick up the disgustingly huge piece of binded paper on the ground.

Killua's mouth snapped shut, just realizing the numbing stings coming from his freshly injured leg, and settled with staring embarrassingly at his chest. What an absolutely wonderful day to wear shorts, you sure outdid yourself, Killua.

"Here, hold this," Gon ordered, bending his wrist to place the book on Killua's stomach. "Hold on, I'll get you fixed up in no time!"

Without a second to breathe, Killua's head was harshly flung back into Gon's strong shoulder. He inhaled sharply, squinting against the sudden rush of the wind that whistled past his face and flew through his white hair. Slender fingers clawed at the bouncing book, struggling to keep it from falling without soiling it with drops of crimson.

Gon leaped across the sidewalk, feet eating up the gray concrete at an alarming pace. So fast, that Killua could barely catch the expressions other people wore when they rushed by. (he could still see them nevertheless) There was a mixture of mostly perplexity, slight disgust, and a few blank stares.

Killua's face flushed even harder, the tips of his ears a bright red color. He hurriedly raised his book to cover his face and hoped that this would be over soon. Okay, okay...just deep breaths, deep bre-

"Wow, Killua! You're really light!"

Fuck.

No matter what Gon spouted, as long as directed towards Killua, it seemingly never failed to make him blush at least a tiny bit.

Damn you, Gon!

Soon enough, the newly acquainted pair reached the front of a small, colorful building. Killua gasped in relief when the world stopped moving in a blur and dropped the book on top of his midsection. "O-okay, Gon. I think you can put me dow-uahhh!?."

Gon seemed to have other plans, as he briskly walked to the back of the building, politely knocking on the closed-door. Life decided that it would be hilarious to make Killua's day a humiliating nightmare.

"Wait, G-gon! I'm f-"

The door cracked open only tad bit and full-blown kid noises resonated from inside; the young adolescents were either laughing, crying, and screaming. A woman with glasses poked her head out, arms tenderly carrying a toddler. Two other children whined beside her, hiding coyly behind her legs.

Her face relaxed once she saw Gon's face, slouching softly in relief. "Why were you late? These children never stopped asking 'where is onii-chan?' and 'is onii-chan coming?'. I was so worried!" She scolded.

"I apologize, Maria-san. My friend here got hurt cuz of me, so I carried him here."

F-friend!?

Finally, Maria noticed the other human being in Gon's arms, Killua blushed at the sudden attention and looked away. "Oh my! Why didn't you say so?" She gasped, "Come in, come in!"

Maria apparently didn't mind that Gon was carrying another boy bridal style, as she hurried to get the first-aid kit while ushering kids aside. Gon went into the room, shutting the door quietly. The moment he stepped in, the whole room was suddenly silent, kids ages 4 to 5 looked at the two older boys in sheer joy. Well mostly at the upright one. Killua was more or less mortified to see 20 pairs of eyes.

"Onii-chan!" They chorused, giggling and rushing to meet him.

"Hey, kids! Nice to see ya!" Gon chuckled, a soothing sound that vibrated faintly into the right side of Killua's body, making said male turn another shade of red, "Onii-chan needs to help his friend first, then we can play, yeah?"

"Haiii!" The group of children chirped.

"Whoooa! Onii-chan hwoding pincess!" Pointed a kid, eyes shining in awe. The children stared, wide-eyed, at Killua, who shifted uncomfortably in Gon's arms.

What the actual hell.

Gon laughed charmingly, "Don't be silly, you little goose. He's a friend, now get along." The kids giggled and broke away.

He gently set Killua down in one of the chairs near the wall; Maria jogged to them with a small kit, a giant white plus sign smacked in the middle.

"Alrighty, Gon, you can go play with the kids. I'll take care of your friend here." Maria said, opening up the box.

"M'kay!" Gon gave a thumbs-up, turning back to the kids, "Hey guys, guess whoooo's back?" He grinned, spreading his arms widely.

"Onii-chan!"

Killua couldn't help but stare in interest as a dozen kids crowded around his 'friend', all seeking attention from the older male. He almost forgot why he was here until Maria asked, "What's your name?"

The male jolted out of his trance, "Killua." He said quickly.

"Nice to meet you, Killua. As you know, I'm Maria, one of the teachers in this preschool." She smiled kindly, taking out a roll of gauze and a few bottles. "Where did you hurt yourself?"

Killua uncertainly placed his hands in Maria's palms, "It's not that bad, ma'am. I can do it myself." He said, gazing slowly back at Gon.

"Oh hush. Just be a good boy and sit. And don't call me "ma'am", I'm not that old." She tsked, pouring some alcohol on to a handkerchief. "This might hurt."

Killua just nodded automatically, eyes still trained on Gon childishly chasing the shrieking kids. He barely noticed the burning sensation when Maria carefully wiped off the dirt and blood, taking in the laughter that resounded next to him. Maria slathered on some ointment and wrapped the gauze tightly around Killua's palms, tying a small bow on the back of his hands.

"Okay, done. Killua dear, mind if you roll up your shorts?"

Killua offered her a muddled expression and stared blankly at the wall behind her, exhausted brain maliciously repeating the way how Gon's lips curl into a dazzling smile, how his scrunch eyebrows cutely when he laughs. And oh shit, Killua is-

I'm-

"-ay? Killua are you okay? Hellllooo?" Maria raised her voice, snapping her fingers anxiously.

"Huh? Oh-yes, I'm fine mah-eeeria!...-san" He squawked, almost making the same mistake.

Maria looked at him, bemused, "Um, your leg?"

"I can do it!" Killua yelped, "Thank you very much, Maria-san. I really appreciate your hospitality." He said sincerely.

She looked at him carefully, before finally sighing, "No biggie, I'm just glad to help." She replied with another smile, "You better get that knee fixed, you're allowed to leave after."

"Thank you."

"Of course, dear." After those words left her mouth, Maria quickly went to take care of the younger kids.

Killua relaxed visibly, not used to having people so close to him on purpose. His hands picked up the handkerchief and dosed it with a few more drops of alcohol. Just as he was about to dab it on top of the wound, a tan hand was placed on top of his.

"Let me." A low voice whispered, "Y'know, f-for accidentally bumping into you."

Killua felt his face heat up for the umpteenth of the day and nodded in an unsure way. He let the piece of cotton slip past his thin fingers and allowed Gon to brush the fabric cautiously over the patch of missing skin. His gentle fingers worked steadily along the injury; Killua was too absorbed to feel any sparks of pain.

Soon enough, a large band-aid was placed securely over the sensitive flesh; Gon offered a hand to Killua, who gladly took it. They smiled at each other, one radiating with sunlight, the other as soft as the moon, but still bright nonetheless.

"See you later?" Gon asked, face lit up with hope.

"Yeah, see you later." Killua confirmed, flashing another bashful grin.

They waved goodbye, "Feel free to meet with me anytime!" was the last sentence that came from Gon's mouth. Killua notices his lips curving up in an uncontrollable, wobbly smile, giggles bubbling erratically in his chest.

Definitely.

Killua has never felt so ecstatic; after just a brief encounter with Gon yesterday, school went by crazy fast. Heck, he even had an urge to hum the sappiest song and gallop/dance down the road like a stereotypical, cartoon protagonist, lovesick school girl who looked eleven but was actually seventeen. (Cuz LOGIC)

The albino replayed the words from his last conversation with Gon, a tiny smile playing onto his face. He could barely concentrate on the book in his hands as he neared the preschool; this was one of the first times he's ever felt the rush of excitement.

Gon had asked him to help with the kids, telling him Maria would be extremely grateful for extra hands and that he could earn service hours. But the main reason Killua agreed, was to talk to his one and only friend, Gon. Sure, it sounded like one of those cheesy romance novels where everything was perfect, but what can he do when he's never had anyone outside his family or teachers to talk to?

The rowdy noises of kids could be faintly heard through the door, Killua could hear his heart thumping. His hand curled up into a loose fist, knuckles gently knocking against the door. It swung open immediately, and he was face-to-face with a beaming Gon.

"Hey, Killua! Super glad to see you!"

"Y-yeah...me too."

"Whatcha waiting for? Come on in!" Gon laughed, pulling Killua gently into the building.

The boy's cheeks were tinted with pink as he half-stumbled, half-walked past the door. Kids cheered to see that their onii-chan has returned from supposedly conquering "The vewy big, bad dwagon".

"Onii-chan come back widt va pincess!" Squealed the kid from yesterday, causing a whole other commotion.

Killua swears he's been endowed with a previously latent super power for setting fire to his face. Children giddily jumped around the pair, making up stories and reenacting the scene where "the sooper bwave knight save da pwincess".

Gon looked at Killua apologetically, scratching the back of his head sheepishly, "Oh, errr. The kids kiiiinda think that...I rescued you, the princess, from a nonexistent creature. Sorry?"

Killua stared at Gon incredulously and gulped, "Imagination sure is scary..." He shivered.

"Ehh, it's not too bad. The children are actually pretty lovable."

Killua just proceeded to nod quietly, thinking of his sister, Alluka. He took a deep breath, surveying the whole room,

Just talk to them like you would with Alluka.

Was what he thought. One Alluka isn't that hard, but 20? Let's just say trying to care for a roomful of needy, younger Allukas with 30 different wishes proved to be a much more challenging.

Killua was overwhelmed. Boys and girls alike swarmed him; latching onto his clothes, big eyes filled with never-ending wonder, which led to never-ending questions and comments.

"What yu name?"

"Where come fwom?"

"Waah! You eyez, pretty!"

Killua froze up at the last statement and glanced at Gon, face screaming help me! His spiky-haired friend just smiled encouragingly, "Just go with it!" he mouthed back with a wink.

Killua's face fell. He was on his own.

Man, was he glad to have finished math homework at lunch.

Turning back to the bubbling kids, Killua offered a small wave and a crooked smile, "Hi...The name's K-killua."

The group of children squeaked with excitement, giggling gleefully at his voice. They bounced around energetically, mischief dancing in their eyes. Tiny fingers wrapped around Killua's hands, gently pulling him who knows where.

Killua looked around at them in confusion as they trembled in anticipation, bits of muffled laughter escaping their lips. Before he knew it, his shoulder softly bumped Gon's chest. Killua's striking cerulean orbs widened considerably, pale cheeks painted with pink.

"Stowy! We wanna stowy!" The kids demanded, hands clasped together cutely, "Pweeeeaaase!"

Gon turned to face Killua, an awfully devilish look playing onto his face, "How's about I," gesturing to himself, "tell you lucky souls," dramatic pause, "about my journey on finding the Moon Prince?" With that said, Gon barely suppressed a playful smirk as he swept Killua up, (ignoring the fact that steam was coming out of Killua's ears) a serious look washing over his tan features as he stared "heroically" at the wall.

What the. Actual. Fucking. Hell.

"G-gon! What are you doing!?" Killua hissed, mind a jumbled mess.

"Just go with it." Gon whispered indifferently, jutting out his chin and cocking an eyebrow to imitate a warrior. The kids loved it, even Killua, in the end, couldn't resist letting out a few giggles.

"Will der be dragin?"

"Of course! Now hurry up and sit down." Gon winked.

Tiny feet scrambled to find a spot on the floor, small pairs of lips spread into even wider smiles. Children crowded together in a jumbled patch, enthusiasm sparkling in their eyes, barely able to contain their jitters.

"Story time!"

Put on your imagination caps, my dudes. This is gonna be one hella clichéd ride ;) CRINGE ALERT CRINGE ALERT CRINGE ALERT *sirens*

Once upon a time, a young warrior stumbled across a village; starving and dehydrated, he collapsed onto the dusty ground, breath coming out sharply. His warm caramel eyes slowly lost their light as his vision was dotted with black. The last thing he saw was a flash of shockingly white hair and irises bluer than the sky itself.

The warrior jolted awake, a blanket draped across his lap, a sheen of sweat glistening along his forehead. The insatiable thirst and twisting pains of hunger were suddenly gone. He brought a hand up to comb through a head of dark hair, breathless gasps filled the unfamiliar room.

The door suddenly creaked open, and an eye peeked timidly through the door, followed by another. Soon enough, a whole body was standing in front of the warrior.

Beautiful was an understatement.

Starlit hair ran free around his scalp, drooping gracefully over his forehead, barely hiding the thick lashes that curled along his eyelids. Big, electric blue eyes blinked in interest, his head tilting to the side cutely, not unlike a cat's. A faint blush rested perfectly on top of milky, soft-looking skin, which outlined a pair of slightly parted lips.

The boy glided into the room, large sapphire eyes staring into the warrior's amber ones, who inhaled in wonder, "You're really pretty..."

The village boy flushed, pink spreading across his cheeks, "T-thanks I guess..."

They stared at each other, both taking in the other's features subconsciously. A pale hand lifted to touch the warrior's face, child-like curiosity danced in ocean blue orbs.

A sudden, deafening crash was heard, and the boy's eyes widened in fear. He flew out the window, the glass shattered easily, littering on to the floor like fallen stars. The young warrior rushed to the broken window, but the boy has already disappeared. The warrior swore that he will find him, finally embarking on his grueling quest.

It has been years. His sword has slain many, stained with the blood of countless foes that once terrorized the people. He was a hero, a famous legend that everyone cheered for, that everyone admired, that everyone loved. But he, still, has not completed his main mission; to find the mysterious white-haired boy.

The warrior sighed, calloused hands nudging away the branches splattered with lush green leaves, eyes darting anxiously to meet with a certain pair of blue ones.

A low rumble made the ground tremble softly, a flurry of crows escaped into the sky, cawing ominously as the wind whistled through the trees. The warrior bravely ventured forward, pushing aside the emerald coats of bushes; before long, a tuft of white contrasted the dark greenery.

Excitement bubbled in his chest, he had finally done it! He has found the boy who rescued him, the beautiful boy who's name still remained unknown. The warrior stumbled over the fresh greenery, pushing past handfuls of leaves, heart thumping in his throat.

Boots hit the ground at an alarming pace, but then came to a hurried stop. Feet skidded, arms waved wildly for balance, eyes blinking in disbelief. The warrior reluctantly took in the sight, breath coming out in labored gasps.

It was not the boy.

Exhausted growls filled the tense atmosphere. Striking, bright irises slowly made its way to the standing figure. Once shining, starlit hair fluttered gently in the breeze, now soiled with dirt and matted without years of care.

Blue clashed silently with brown, both refused to look away. The warrior drew his sword, metal glinting harshly in the sunlight. The creature throat rumbled, giant head collapsing tiredly into the ground. Its silver body rolled to the side weakly, eyes closing in defeat.

The warrior lowered his sword, eyeing the dragon suspiciously.  He then realized an arrow sticking out from its foreleg, scarlet blood spread across the numerous scales. Vowing to never injure the innocent, he sheathed his sword and cautiously walked towards the hurt animal.

The animal suddenly opened its eyes, dark pupils shrinking as it stared at the human, unreadable. Suddenly, the blue irises widened as if in surprise, a gurgled coo sounded from its mouth.

A blinding light surrounded the creature, covering it with a blanket of white. The warrior stepped back, hand resting stiffly on his sword. The light gradually started to shrink, broad legs shaped into thin limbs, its head became a ball of fluffy white hair, wide wings, and long tail disappeared into the air.

What was once a great dragon now became a slender being, paired with cerulean eyes and snowy hair. He lies, immobile, on the ground, arrow still sticking out of his arm. His eyes drooped, eyelids slipping shut, eyelashes brushing his cheeks.

Everything was dark.

.

.

.

The white-haired boy's eyes snapped open, his body shot up hurriedly, pain spiked his arm. He hissed, sapphire orbs clouding in irritation. Sharp ears picked up the sound of footsteps, he turned to face the door, ready to attack.

Dark hair followed by amber-colored eyes peeked from the opening. A gentle hand clasped the side of the doorway. The warrior cautiously inched his way in, mesmerized by the sparkling eyes rounded with curiosity.

"What...what is your name?" The warrior whispered.

The other tilted his head, as if trying to decipher what the sentence meant. He stared blankly, before pointing a shaky finger to himself, eyes widening in question. The warrior nodded, and pointed at himself, "My name's Gon... Gon Freecss. What's your's?"

The white-haired boy parted his lips, all but a breathy squeak came out. He furrowed his eyes in frustration and tried again, "G...g...n...on..."

"Y-yeah! That's right. Gon. What about your name?"

Blue eyes darted away, most likely in embarrassment, "...ll...a..." he gasped.

"La?"

"Ki...a."

"Kira?"

Snow-white hair shook side-to-side, "...lua."

"Ki...lua? Killua?"

'Killua''s head bobbed up and down, eyes shining and sparkling like sapphires. A poorly suppressed grin etched itself across his face, ending up adorably lopsided; it was honestly the cutest thing Gon has ever seen.

"It's nice to meet you, Killua." Gon smiled shyly, extending a hand. "You...you want to be...friends?"

Killua's eyes widened once more, lips parting in a surprised gasp. Tranquil silence laced itself into the air, blue and brown clashing once more. Killua crawled forward and nuzzled into Gon's hand, bright hair brushing a calloused palm.

"...Friends..." the word foreign on his tongue, leaving behind a sweet taste.

Gon smiled even wider, "You're doing it wrong, silly." He laughed, extracting his hand from the nest of fluff and clasping it with a cold, skinny one.

"Friends."
_______________________________________________________________
Throughout half the story,  I realized that it does NOT line up with rest of parts, (AND that it makes no sense) but I'm too lazy to fix it, sooooo yeah. Sorry.

"Remember kids, everyone has a heart no matter what they look like. Not everyone one who looks like a bad person is. But always be careful to who you talk to. Be nice to others and they'll be nice to you. Promise me you'll remember?" Gon said, extending a pinky.

"We pinky-pwomise!" The kids cheered, waving their pinkies in the air.

"Whoever breaks the promise has to swallow a thousand needles. Sealed with a kiss!" Gon declared, bumping his thumb with the kids'.

Killua is 100% sure he has broken the record for hottest volcano during the made-up story. He chuckled softly at the childish ritual, gently biting the skin on his knuckle.

Cute cute cute~

Cheeks aflame, he snapped out of his trance when a child held onto his leg. "Hey, hey. What are you d-doing?" Suddenly, more limbs were flung around his lower body, making him fall with a yelp.

His head cushioned into a large beanbag, he winced slightly at the sudden impact. Kids lazily squirmed against his body, hands accidentally kneaded into his stomach. Killua giggled helplessly, unable to move due to the pile of kids that swarmed his body. He bit his lip as the sensation slowly ebbed away, sighing in relief.

A dozen pair of eyes fluttered shut, shifting comfortably against Killua's body. The air was soon filled with barely audible snores

"Yeaaaah...they, really like to do that." Gon smiled apologetically, "Is it okay if you wait it out?"

Killua stared, incredulous, at his friend, finally groaning in defeat, "Fine. Fine. Only because we're...friends." he said, mumbling the last part, pink spreading across his face.

The sun was nothing compared to Gon's smile, "You can sleep too, y'know. No offense, but you look kinda dead."

Killua let out a few laughs and nodded. His eyelids also drooped, a picture of Gon's charming face stuck itself in his head. His breaths slowly matched with the other's, falling into well-deserved slumber with a relaxed smile.

Click.

Gon couldn't suppress the playful yet affectionate smile that spread across his lips as he held up his phone. He stuck his tongue out mischievously.

Since they were friends, right?
