“Good morning, Subject R-O.” Dr. Berry smiled warmly. “How are you today?” 

Subject R-O didn’t move, not even glancing up at the scientist. “Let me go.” He croaked, staring blankly at the table. “I wanna see Remus.”

“I’m afraid I can’t do that.” Dr. Berry told him calmly. “Subject R-E doesn’t want to see you. He’s too caught up in his work. I suggest you follow his example, or he’ll move on without you.” He sighed, clearly lying. Subject R-O, however, did not pick up on it. 

“...really?” He asked quietly, glancing at Dr. Berry. “He said that?” 

“He did.” Dr. Berry revealed, warm smile still on his face. “Honestly, it’s rather pathetic that you’re still hung up on it. He moved on ages ago.” 

“He really...doesn’t wanna see me…?” Subject R-O murmured, more to himself than to Dr. Berry. 

“You’re replaceable, Subject R-O. How long is it going to take you to realize that?” Dr. Berry shook his head, leaning back in his chair and crossing his arms. “It’s only been a couple of days, and they all seem to not care about you anymore.” He let out a condescending chuckle. “They’ve barely noticed that you’re gone.” 

“What?” Subject R-O whispered, looking up at Dr. Berry. 

“I mean, what did you expect?” Dr. Berry hummed. “Did you think they would be lost without you? That they would scream and beg for you back?” He tilted his head, fixing his soulless eyes on Subject R-O.

“Well, no--”

“Then, why are you surprised?” Dr. Berry shrugged. “Well, I suppose it would be pretty shocking. Realizing that no one cares about you is pretty terrible, I’d imagine.”

“You’re lying.”

“I am.” Dr. Berry conceded. 

“Why?” Subject R-O hissed, glaring at the scientist.

“Isn’t that the question you should be asking yourself?” Dr. Berry leaned his forearms on the table. “More specifically, why did you believe me so easily?”
