"You need to stop what you're doing Ruby," Daisy said in between her continuous munching on her tuna sandwich.

"Stop what?" Ruby tossed her salad around the plate, occasionally throwing a bit of lettuce into her mouth.

"Doing that. You're not eating."

"I'm not hungry."

It was a week before Thanksgiving and she was anxious to go home. She missed home. She missed her Dad.

"If you say so." Daisy kept on eating her sandwich without a pause. The girl sure could eat.

The cafeteria was bustling with activity. People were eating, some were on their laptops and phones. Some were chatting away with their friends. Many of them belonged to a clique or society. Ruby was so distracted by the amount of people around that she didn't seem to notice him approach her table.

"Well, well, well. . . If it isn't the little churchy girl. Our very own Ruby." A voice Ruby knew too well said as he dropped his lunch on the table. He grabbed a sit and turned it to face her very loudly. It was so loud that a few people close heard it and turned their heads in their direction, above the sounds of constant chatter and clanging cutleries on plate.

Ruby tensed. "What do you think you're doing, Andrew?" she hissed at him.

He gave her a careless shrug. "Eating my lunch." He took a slice of pizza and bit into it leisurely, looking at her straight in the eye.

"You can do it on another table. Please." She looked anything but pleading.

Daisy hadn't said a word since he arrived. She just sat there, eating her food in silence and watching what was unfolding in front of her.

"Oh, so you're too holy you can't have the sinner boy sit close to you," he tsked, shaking his head. "Bad. Bad. Even Jesus ate with sinners." He smirked like a kid who had just recited his multiplication timetable.

"Please, don't start this, Andrew. If you're going to sit here be quiet." She motioned to the table beside them and the occupants who where starting to stare at them. Fights always drew eyes towards a person in the college and the students did not fail to look out for them.

"Whatever you say, holy one." She cringed at the nickname. It brought back memories of high school - of who she had once been. He was one to make fun of her religion. She wasn't surprised. He'd been doing it for so long she had almost lost count.

When he was done with his pizza, he made of a scene of wiping his mouth with a paper napkin. "So, Ruby. . . How has the churchy life been treating you?" He sneered.

She stopped eating or rather, picking her salad and looked him dead in the eye. "Very good."

He didn't blink. They began a silent stare down. Daisy cleared her throat. They broke away and looked at her. She cowered a little, but she didn't back down. "You guys should cut this. Whatever is going on here." She gestured to the both of them.

"Tell Ruby to stop acting all churchy," he answered quickly.

"How am I acting like that?" She raised her voice a little, earning a few glances their way. "You're the one who came to this table and started accusing me. I've never willingly rubbed my religion in your face. And you need to respect the fact that I'm a Christian." She sighed and placed her head in her hands. "Just leave me be."

"I won't Ruby. You know I won't." He gave her a long look. With that final sentence, he stood up and left the table, his tray in hand. Daisy blinked after him, confused.

"What was that for?" She asked Ruby.

"Nothing," Ruby murmured.

Daisy crossed her arms and gave Ruby a look. "Well that didn't look like nothing."

"Just leave it okay?"

"Fine," she grumbled. After all, she wasn't one to force people to do things they didn't want to do. She made people happy, not sad.

"Let's get to class." They both stood up and carried their bags. They dumped the remains of their food and left the buzzing cafeteria, heading to their lecture hall. Thankfully, it was their last lecture for the day.

"Catherine, where are you going to spend Thanksgiving?" Ruby asked as the two roommates settled to do their laundry.

"I'll go to my grandmother's house in Queens." She replied with a shrug.

"Cool," Ruby smiled. "I like your grandmother"

"No you don't. You don't even know her"

"I do!" Ruby insisted.

"Ugh." Catherine rolled her eyes. "Three phone calls and a Skype chat doesn't count as knowing someone."

"Well, it does to me."

"Whatever. . ."

They continued loading the washing machine with clothes. Thursday was their laundry day. Ruby liked to call it the day they tackled demons of dirt in order to be clean. Since that was apparently too long, she had settled on calling it their laundry day.

Ruby allowed her mind wander back to the phone call she got from her Dad and smiled. He'd told her that he had a surprise for her. He sounded nervous, so the surprise must be a big one, she deduced.

When they finished doing the laundry, they ate diner. After diner, she went to Catherine's room to grab her laptop she had left there. She walked to her room and stood close to her window, remembering the times she'd had with her family. Just the three of them; she, her mom and her dad. She would soon go back to the home where she'd made so many memories. A place that screamed perfection. But she didn't mind.

As she stood there and looked forward to the next week, she smiled to herself. She would soon be home.
