The conflict

Dedicated to anyone who has given me feedback on this story. I appreciate constructive criticism!
I HAVE MORE THAN 900 READS?! I AM FREAKING OUT. I never thought anyone would want to read this...

Okay. I'm fine. I'm fine. I'm fine...

Anyway, in this chapter, things start to heat up...

Amber felt for a weapon.

She had a fishing spear - but she was terrible with spears. Ermelinda was the one who could use a spear.

She didn't have a gun. It made too much noise in an otherwise silent forest; it was like sending up a flare. Besides, it was hard to use with the trees in the way.

Where was her knife?

She used it for cutting rope, whittling branches, cleaning fish - everything. And it was gone.

The figure with blond hair had stood up, and a knife that wasn't Amber's was clearly visible.

Amber was defenceless.

You still there?

You mad at me?

Is this story a load of rubbish?

You want me to carry on?

Okay. Fine.

So she did the smart thing.

She ran.

Dodging between trees, leaping over branches lying as if in wait for her.

She skidded across some thorns, wincing as they left a red mark on her calf.

She could hear him getting closer. His breaths were laboured.

Her limbs were screaming in protest, a sharp pain erupting in her legs.

Amber realised where she was going.

Could her luck get any worse?

He had cornered her.

She scrabbled helplessly for her knife, seeking out the reassuring cold blade. Darting behind a tree, she plunged her hand into the sack of supplies she was carrying.

A knife embedded itself in the tree she stood behind.

Tugging it out of the tree, Amber ran, hoping he wouldn't spot her.

Then the world disappeared in an explosion of pain.

(I was thinking of ending it here. Consider yourself lucky. Although there probably wasn't enough suspense there for you to do so...)

Looking around wildly through a haze of pain, she spotted the cave.

Diving in, she sat down.

Tears forced themselves out of her eyes as she pulled the knife out of her leg, the blood forming a pool around her.

(A/N don't worry, I'm aware that was terrible. I cannot write action or suspense. Any tips appreciated. Oh, and please consider voting if you liked the chapter!

The plot of this story needs serious work...

Bookgirl out.)
