Chapter 9

Everything around you was dark...quiet...empty. Not a figure in sight, not even a heart beat...

Ba-thump

...a heart beat?

Ba-thump

It's getting louder and louder, filling up the whole space of nothingness.

"...up." said a soft voice. "Wake up." The voice grew louder, more clear as it sounded like a female. "Hey wake up." Said the voice again.

"Who is that? Their voice sounds very familiar..." you though to yourself as you began to slowly open your eyes.

You felt someone poking your forehead repeatedly. The touch sent chills down your spine. Your vision was blurry as you lifted your head a little to see a blurry figure crouched in front of you. You blinked again to adjust your eye sight.

"Ah, you're waking up!" The stranger spoke as their face became more clear.

Suddenly you pulled out your gun and pointed it at the stranger's forehead. The stranger didn't move an inch even though they had a deadly weapon against their head.

The stranger...had your face...but their appearance was for some reason different...they had the same skin color as you but was wearing a white dress with no sleeves, that looked like it went down to their ankles. Their (o/h/l) (h/c) hair was the opposite length of your (h/l) (h/c) hair. Resting on their arms was a white see-through scarf as it hung all the way to the ground.

"Oh come on now (Name) put the gun down. You can't hurt me." They said, giving you a confident smile.

You didn't listen as you pressed the gun against their forehead.

"Who are you? And why do you have my face?" You asked, showing no signs of pulling back.

"Is it not obvious? I'm you!" They said, lifting an eyebrow.

You kept silent for a moment the breath through your nose. You examined the other 'you' carefully. She didn't look threatening, not in the slightest.

"I don't believe you." You protested, the 'you' groaned at your stubbornness then looked you straight in the eyes.

"(Name) Freya Hughes. Daughter of Maes and Gracia Hughes and sister of Elicia Hughes." She began, you blinked as you listened to her speak about your personal background. "You joined the military at a young age and became now the Siren Alchemist. Your Alchemy is rare compared to other alchemist, since you use alchemy with only your voice. You're one of the strongest in the military...and that lead you to killing 100s of innocent lives because you were ordered to. You killed men...women...even children without a second thought. And not once did you feel any remorse...you didn't even cry..." she said, giving you a look of grief.

"How do you know all that?" You spoke almost in a whisper.

You stared at her, not blinking once as your (e/c) eyes glossed over, showing empty souless eyes. She gave you a sympathetic smile as she slowly took hold of your gun.

"Please...put the gun down...you can't kill me." She said, moving the gun slowly as you allowed her to remove it from her head. "And I told you before, I'm you." She said, placing the gun at your side. "And I'm here to warn you!" She said, taking your hand and pulling you up to your feet. "Cornello is planning to kill both you and Ed since you know the secret of the Philosopher stone. But his Philosopher stone...its a fake." She added.

"What?" You commented when suddenly a large door appeared behind the girl.

She followed your gaze and looked over her shoulder, her expression hardened. She then turned to you and gave you a sweet smile.

"Times up! But please don't forget what I told you! Please keep Ed and Al alive..." she finished, her existence fading away along with her voice.

You began to call out to her but nothing came out as you reached your hand out to her.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A sound of a door slamming shut rung in your ears as you slowly regain consciousness. You were looking at stone floor, the smell of rust stung your nose. You lifted your head and scanned your surroundings. Your breath feeling hot making it hard to breath went you noticed that your mouth was binded. You went to removed the cloth but your arms wouldn't budge since they were tied tightly together behind your back with rope.
"You're awake." Said a familiar voice that led your gaze to Ed who was also binded but by chains and was struggling to get bread in his mouth. "Want some?" He asked as he kicked the plate of breath over to you.
You looked at him then the dish. You slid your foot under the plate and flipped it, bread flying in the air while the plate did a somersault. Ed didn't look surprised since he knew what you were doing. The plate crashed down on the floor, shattering into tiny pieces. You slid over to the nearest shard and picked it up with your binded hands and began to rub it against your binds. Ed smirked and unchained himself, eating his piece of bread.
The squeaking sound of the prison door opened, letting inside Cornello who had a smug look on his face.
"This little charade of yours will be found out soon enough." Ed spoke, glaring at the bald priest.
"The faithful are not likely to distinguish between alchemy and the works of God. Really, as long as I'm bringing them happiness what do they care where it comes from?" Cornello answered honestly.
"Right. So what's in it for you? Besides all the cow towing." Ed asked giving him a smirk. "What? Is it the money you're after?" He asked.
"Oh I can get all the money I want from the offerings. But you'd think too small, I'm making believers gladly throw away they're lives to my very name. And why not, they believe I can resurrect them. They aren't afraid to die. There is no greater army than those of a holy call! Mark my words, in a few years I'll have a following large enough to tear this city apart and rebuild it in my name!" Cornello proclaimed, laughing triumphantly.
Ed sighed at Cornello's scheme.
"Makes no difference to me." Ed admitted, continuing on eating his bread. "After all there's no real way to bring people back to life right? Once you cut me down I'm gone for good." Ed admitted.
"I'm afraid that's right. Even with a Philosopher stone I wouldn't dare try human alchemy. I'd end up like you. And why would a king risk his life for the sake of his mindless pawns?" Cornello pointed out, then his expression changed as if he figured something out. "Wait a second..." Ed looked up at him and gave him a toothy smile and scooted over revealing a microphone.
You and Cornello looked quite surprised.
"WHAT?! HOW LONG HAS THAT THING BEEN ON?!" Cornello demanded an answer.
"Long enough for the mindless pawns tearing this country apart comment, I think." Ed answered.
"HOW DID YOU GET MY BROADCASTING EQUIPMENT?!" The priest asked the blonde another question, looking panicked.
"Al rigged it up. I know you smashed him into pieces. But that was just some metal I whipped up to look like him. Pretty clever, huh?" Ed answered, laughing a little.
"NO, MY CHILD HE LIES! DON'T BELIEVE HIM!" Cornello shouts creating a machine gun and began firing at the microphone.
Ed jumped out of the way, landing with his back against you. You continued cutting through your binds as Ed held his ground. Then Cornello turned and aimed at you and Ed. You sawed through the ropes, releasing your hands then throwing the shard at Cornello's right shoulder. Cornello cried in pain as the shard pierced his skin then was caught off guard ands Ed turned his metal arm into a blade, slashing at him knocking his gun out of his hands.
"Oh and by the way, I don't get my skills from a pocket watch." Ed said in his fighting stance as you stood up and untied the cloth around your mouth.
Cornello pulled out the shard and threw it aside holding his wound. He stepped back and began to flee, leaving you and Ed behind. Ed cocked a grin of victory and chased after the man.
"But his Philosopher stone...its a fake." The girl's voice echoed in your mind like a reminder.
You then took off after Ed who went to collect his goal. Your footsteps echoed down the halls as you headed for the exit to where Ed and Cornello left when suddenly the ground started to shake. You wobbled a bit then regained your stance and continued onward when you saw the tallest statue emerging out in the open, Ed had his hand to the ground with Cornello looking astonished.
"Did Edward move that?" You asked yourself as Ed stood up, glaring the false priest.
Suddenly the monstrous statue lifted his fist and aimed at Cornello. Cornello screamed for his life as the fist collided with the ground. The fist 'missed' as it remained in front of Cornello. His legs shook as his body collapsed to the ground. Ed approached him with a stern look, basically telling him that he's lost.
"No! I won't let you have it! You can't take the stone!" Cornello began to flee again.
"Balwisyall nescell gungnir tron." Ed heard your voice as an arrow flew past him, aiming towards Cornello's ring.
It almost touched the ring when suddenly the ring began to glow as the arrow pierced the stone. Cornello stopped and grunted, falling to his knees, holding the hand with the ring. Ed was shocked at your arrow piercing the ring and as well when Cornello's arm went up revealing what looked like engines and metal emerging from his arm.
Ed ran to Cornello and grabbed the hand with the ring and pulled out the arrow, only to have the ring disperse and evaporate. Ed stared at the hand for a while as you approached him.
"That stone was a fake...Edward. You can't use a fake to bring your bodies back." You said looking down at the agonizing priest.
Ed chuckled then stood up, his hands in fists.
"And after all you put me through...STOP JERKING ME AROUND!" Edward shouts in frustration.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You were on a bridge looking over at the glistening water while Ed and Al sat there sulking. Ed took out his pocket watch and examined it.

"Just another wild goose chase. And here I thought we could finally put you back to flesh again." Ed said, looking at Al.

"No brother. You'll be the first we fix. That automail looks tough on you." Al insisted as Ed stuffed his watch back in his pocket.

"All we'll have to do is start the search again." Ed stood up as well as Al and faced you. "(Name) you ready to go?" He asked you.

You turned and looked at the two brothers, pushing yourself off the railing and heading to the other side of the bridge.

"You should never have come here!" Said a feminine voice.

You and the boys looked over to see Rose standing before you three with rage and sadness in her eyes.

"Father Cornello gave us hope, what right did you have to take that away?" Rose spoke from the heart, glaring Ed down. "With him we believed we could do anything, even bring back the dead. WE'RE A DESERT VILLAGE, WE HAD NOTHING BEFORE THAT!" Rose shouts.

"You're saying should've just let everything go on as it was?" Ed asked.

"But why not? What do I have to live for now that I know Kain won't come back! You tell me that Ed!" Rose cried, tears forming in her eyes.

Ed kept his gaze on Rose then turned his back on her.

"You'll have to decide for yourself. Walking on your own, move forward. You've got a good strong pair of legs Rose you should get up and use them." Ed spoke, his blonde bangs shadowing his face.

Ed then began to walk away saying no more, he passed you without making eye contact as Rose eyes widened at Ed's response then they softened as she slowly flopped on the ground. Al went to Rose and knelt down to her level.

"Brother was trying to help you. He just doesn't always handle things well." Al said but Rose turned away.

"Just go away would you." Rose said.

"You can still believe, and hope Rose. I still do." Al said then leaving Rose's side to catch up with his older brother.

You and Rose were left alone on the bridge. You could hear the soft sniffles from Rose trying not to cry.

"Live Rose." You said in a whisper then followed the Elric brothers.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You and the brothers left the village in silence. You walked behind them, deep in thought.
"Please keep Ed and Al alive..." the majestic you came to your mind with her soft smile.
You looked up at Ed and Al's backs. But then Ed stopped suddenly, looking back at you. You stopped as well.
"(Name)...how did you know that the stone was a fake?" Ed asked you with stern eyes.
You looked at him and blinked, giving him no response.
