The Red Parade
Salty sea foam bashed the rocks
As the woman set her clocks
A violet curtain of the skies
Revealed the stars, moon, and those lies
Once again she checked the time
They'd be there by half past nine
She took a sip of lemonade
And waited for the red parade
What had the lady overheard?
They were far from happy to see her cured
A darker fate they had in mind
For that woman, waiting for half past nine
A rumbling sounded a good ways off
Like a man holding in his cough
The woman took this as her cue
She'd purge the stain and start anew
With her rusted blade in hand
She ambled towards them in the sand
Long forgotten ticked the clocks
And sharp, still, those blackened rocks
A salty breeze disturbed her hair
Did she truly know who was there?
Her doubt deepend even more
As they headed for that cliff-like shore
She charged at them with her knife
Those who accidentally saved her life
Little did she know, by the east
Marched the red parade, who loved her least
In her empty house sat a single mouse
Who had eaten the lady's lacy blouse
He stared then, though he hadn't read
Half past eight, the gold watch said
A child shrieked, a mother cried
She had done her best, she tried
For in the sand, lay the bloodied body
Of the daughter they called Dottie
Inside this mother boiled a wrath
The crowd parted, opening a path
She snuck upon the bloodthirsty lady
To avenge her daughter, her youngest baby
She tumbled down as they hit shoulders
Down to the black, perilous boulders
In the distance cheered a troupe
All dressed in red, that sinister group
Since that day the beach was named
After the bloodshed that had shamed
The lady, who'd sipped her lemonade
As she waited for the red parade
