Chapter 4
Aerin shut the door to her house silently, locking it behind her before getting her bike and peddling away. That morning was the start of her new mission, and she had to be at the agency by 5 am to get ready. She left notes around the house for her family and how to care for he security systems and such; also emergency plans in case anything happened to them.
The morning was cool as she went along, the streets mainly silent except for a few cars here and there that were for the early morning commuters. Only the local baker was open, but Aerin neglected to go in for she was running a little behind. She had spent a moment too long watching her brothers sleep before she left. It was hard to leave them, but she knew at least this mission she could still contact them.
"Agent 8257, they are waiting for you in room 4b." The security guard informed her as she flashed her ID badge to the monitor, walked in. She nodded in thanks, jogging down the hall and taking a number of corridors. Despite being so early in the morning, the place was as busy as ever. Agents went in and out of their offices with files, devices and other items. Aerin stopped by room 4b, where the door was locked and a note posted on it said 'Mission 34IA4' only.
She knocked. Four times. Loudly. The door didn't open, and she sighed in irritation, pulling out her phone. Lifting it to her ear, she tapped her UGG clad toe in a rapid beat as she waiting for the director to pick up.
"Agent 18943? Why are you calling me? I am waiting to debrief you." He sounded tired, his voice falling flat at the end of his sentence.
Aerin practically snarled into the phone. "I would gladly accept my debriefing if only the door was unlocked or someone could let me in. And some breakfast would be nice as well." And she shut off the phone. A moment later another agent opened the door, and Aerin walked into what appeared to be general chaos. There had to be at least eight other agents who each had their own station set up. Makeup, hair, clothing, weapons, someone was even packing her suitcase. The director sat behind a desk to the side, typing rapidly on a laptop. He looked up as she entered and motioned to the plate of food in front of him, his face grim.
"Breakfast. Eat quick while I explain. You got your mission, you read it over and you accepted. So now, all you need to do is begin. You will be working as an intern, the personal secretary for Mr. Michaelson. Accompany him everywhere. Gather intel, and make sure to record all information you find." The director hurried, his eyes not looking up from the computer. "Your luggage is being packed with all the latest tech and weapons for your job. I want a daily information package sent to the agency. If we do not get one within a twenty four hour period of the others, we will send out a distress signal. If the signal is not replied to within an hour, we are sending in back up. Got it?"
"Mm." replied Aerin, her mouth full of bagel. "Thounds good."
"Don't talk with your mouth full. Now, I have just sent you a detailed list of information about the people you are looking for. Make sure to look it over, because you aren't going to have a handler to talk to. Manage his job and make sure to know everything about him, as well as his job. Look for connections between the people, look for relationships and the such. The timeline is undefined, so we won't pull you out until we are absolutely certain there is nothing else you need to get. Understood?"
"Yes sir." Nodded Aerin, packing herself a to-go remaining breakfast of fruit and bread. She made to stand but an agent pushed her back into the chair, much to her annoyance. "What on earth are you doing?"
"We have to get you ready for your mission." The agent replied, wheeling the chair to one of the stations. Aerin frowned deeper, her annoyance levels rising. "First stop is your wardrobe. You're going to have to change."
Aerin stood hastily, leaving her neon windbreaker and bag of breakfast on the chair as the two agents at the station hustled to her. They pulled her behind a changing curtain, their feet tapping as she unbuttoned her jeans and took them off, as well as pulled her shirt over her head and chucked it. They forced her into a nice pair of gray pinstriped pants, quickly dropping the hem on the bottom because they were too short. Then a white buttondown was forced over her head and tucked in, a belt sliding around her slim waist and buckling in the front. Aerin stepped into a pair of ballet flats, and she was done being dressed.
"The next stop is hair, and also makeup at the same time." The agent said again, wheeling her chair over. Aerin sighed in agitation but sat down none-the-less, allowing herself to be primped and perfected to their eyes. "You'll be wearing eye colour contacts that also have computer chips in them. We already set everything to your laptop and cell phone, but make sure to check in on them daily. You have a standard travel kit, customized clothes based on size, and emergency packs."
Aerin nodded, allowing them to pull her hair this way and that, handing her contacts to put into her eyes. "We supplied you with a large amount of technology items, including three back up cell phones. Mr. Michaelson will be expecting his new secretary to have a number of devices, so don't try to hide all of them. Am I missing anything director?"
The director looked up, startled, from his coffee. "Um," he began, swallowing the last mouth full and setting it down. "The only thing to remember is that you will be running across the other people who you are watching for the mission. They all interact in one way or another, so try and get on the good sides of them. And do me a favour, don't go all petty on the workers in the office. This spot was hard to secure and we had to set your resumee up with some very, uh, sophisticated track records."
An eye roll and a huff showed off her ignorance as Aerin was finally allowed to stand, turning back to gather her breakfast bag. She began to get handed a number of items as she spoke. "Yes, yes, mission this, mission that." Waving it off, she took the button down blazer and draped it over her arm, "My only request is relatively simple, actually." Take the carry-on bag, and laptop case, "Just keep an eye on my family. I know I got their files to be classified and I want it to stay that way, but there have been certain scenarios," Grab four new phones and turn them on, "That have pushed me to fear for them. Just check in on them for me, alright?"
And there she stood in all glory. Man, did those agents know how to turn a person around! Her eyes were now a bright blue, and they had curled her hair and pinned it back to change the shape of her face. She slung her Louis Vuitton bag onto her arm and clutched one of the phones, inserting a blue tooth as she impatiently tapped her foot for the breakfast bag to be ready with coffee. The director blinked and nodded, making a small side note on his computer before standing. "Shall I see you off?"
And little Aerin stood there, turning her nose up at him. "Of course, you can't expect such a high employee for Mister Michaelson to have to find her own way around somewhere, now do you?"
