Chapter 7
Dawn light filled the den, blinding Maika. Growling, she turned her back against the growing light. Damian lay beside her. His muzzle was resting gently on his paws and his pelt was pressed strongly against Maika's
Smiling, Maika gently nuzzled Damian. Her face began to become a red and her ears felt hot. Damian snored softly and he was obviously dreaming- kicking and barking quietly-.
Sighing, Maika sat up in her nest. Rolling her eyes as Damian barely noticed, she padded out of the den. The clean crisp air took her by surprise and she gasped.
Muttering under her breath, she padded out into the forest. It seemed a bit too.. Quiet?
She shrugged off the thought and kept going. She hoped for some small game and prey. Everything is like in their burrows or something, because.. there was no scent at all.
Maika growled and went back to the den to see Damian still asleep.
Rolling her eyes, she curled up next to him. He finally decides to awaken right then and Maika groaned in annoyance.
"You finally wake up?" She growled.
He nodded groggily.
He stretched in his nest and adjusted his paws to a comfortable position. Then he fell back asleep.
"How late did you stay up?" She murmured.
He just snored and Maika rolled her eyes again.
"Lazy furball." she nudged him gently, "Come on, get up."
He wrinkled his nose and buried his muzzle under his paws.
Growling, she bit his ear hard and he yelped.
"What was that for?" His eyes glittered with anger.
Maika smiled at him, "You're just lazy."
Damian had a ticked-off expression as he sat up in his nest. It eventually disappeared as he awoke.
Maika decided to groom herself as he went to hunt. She had told him it was the full moon tonight and they would want to connect with the others.
He simply nodded and continued out of the den on his hunt.
Maika smoothed down her pelt, which was ruffled from sleep and made it look sleek and shiny.
She went over to the puddle on the other side of the hill their den was in. Taking a long drink, she realized something was definitely wrong.
Maika felt as if she was being watched. Her head swiveled to the side as she took in her surroundings. Maika breathed in, hoping for a scent of a wolf, or any other animal that might be stalking her.
A pair of eyes flashed from the bracken and Maika's hackles raised. She bared her teeth ad growled.
Things are about to go down.
