Chapter 3

"With the click of Holo-button under your profile, you will be able to hear and see.  I will go in order by chairs, so starting with number one, then two, and so on.  I know you all know how to count.  I will signal when it is your turn, so you will not be startled and unprepared." The Conservator explained.

I began to 'feel' Annoyance again.  I was number thirty three, that was far from one. But I would be patient, and I would wait. And I did. I waited for exactly 30 minutes and 6.8 seconds. And then it was my turn.

"Are you ready?" The Conservator asked. I nodded eagerly. I was ready, I was born ready.

And then suddenly, the darkness dissapeared and a slight noise filled my ears. I could not identify the noise though.

Ringing.

Ringing. That's what I was hearing. But then the ringing stopped. And it was replaced by other noises. There was so much around me, it was almost overwhelming. But I could handle it. Everything was beautiful. I immedietly could pinpoint what object was what, and what color it was. I looked down at the chair I was sitting in.

White.

I looked all around me, and nearly everything I saw was white. Except for the moving beings in the chair... Which I could guess were Youths. I turned to...

Grey.

Her hair was...

Blonde.

Her eyes were...

Grey.

"Every color and object you see and identify gets downloaded into your Memory chip, so you will never forget what they are and what they are called." Grey informed me.

Looking around me, I could identify colors, shapes, objects, and sounds. It was everything I thought it would be. No, it was more than I thought it would be. It was beautiful. There was a...

Television

in the center of the room, people were everywhere, for every youth there was a guide, technician, and physician.  I looked down at my hands, which were a...

Pale skin

color.  I nealy giggled when the thought of how abnormal hands looked.  The floor was...

Tiled

and also white.  Nearly everything in the room was white.  A thought came to me. If I could hear, certainly I was allowed to talk.   Am I allowed to speak?  I wished I could have asked Grey, but then that would be my first worlds, my first question. And I already had a word in mind I wanted to first speak: happiness.  I figured that if the other 32 youths around me-the ones who had just gotten their speech and hearing-that then I was able to talk also.

But they were no help, they were mute.  So I stayed silent.  It felt odd, like holding in my breath.  My breathing also had a noise, it was soft, nearly inaudible, but if you listened really closely, you could hear my inhaling and exhaling.  I found that interesting, and I started to wonder if everything had a sound.

There are two types of sound: Sound audible to the human ear, and sound inaudible to the human ears.  Sound is the vibration of an object, and everything vibrates at all times.  The faster it vibrates, the louder the sound.  ((Sorry guys, I probably got that fact wrong.  If you know the real answers, plz comment.  I need all the scientific help I can get, and the internet isn't helping.))

I wondered how I could've never asked that before.  After 1 hour and 37.7 minutes, the screen which blurred and showed a face.

Conservator.

On que, everyone in the room saluted.  The Conservator matched the room.  Her skin was so pale it was almost white, her eyelashes were thick, you could barely see the spaces between them, her eyes were such a light blue, it was almost as if they were made out of...

Ice.

Her outfit was a white dress, it's neckline went up to the top of the neck and sleeves went all the way down to her hands.  Her lips were as pale as the rest of her, she looked like...  suddenly, an image came to me.  I could pin point what it all was.  The white stuff was...

Snow.

The tall things sticking out of the snow covered ground were...

Pine trees.

She reminded me of snow.  Of course, I had never seen snow in real life, or felt it, but it looked beautiful.  Her mouth moved up, she was...

 smiling.

"Now that all 100 of you have your sight and hearing, it is time for the next step.  It is time for the Chip injection.  But before we move onto that stage, I shall show you your profile page.  When your chair number is called, your page will come up on the screen.   On your profile page is your name, your job, your picture, and your overall attribute of your personality.  Now, all the profile pages are being downloaded to not only all of you, but all the other Citizens.  We do this so when you see someone you don't recognize or know, their profile will come to mind and you will instantly know a few things about them already." when she spoke, her mouth made multiple different shapes.  It was weird seeing that, I always knew that when we spoke, out mouths moved, but to see it for the first time ever, it was strange.

"Are we all ready?" she asked.  We all nodded, some people said 'yes' instead.

"Alright, Number 1." the image of the Conservator dissapeared and a blank white screen with...

Words

and a...

picture.

I read the screen, and I realized I didn't even need to read it. Number 1's profile page formed an image in my mind.  Her name was Ama, she was a Constructor.  A constructor was someone who helped plan out all the buildings and structures of the New World.  Her biggest aspect of her personality was that she was a hard worker.  She had...

Black curly

hair and...

Dark

skin tone.  Her eyes were also nearly black.  To me, Ama was the opposite of the Conservator.  But that was only look wise.  Everyone knew that the Conservator was a hard worker, the hardest worker the New World had.  Which made Ama the second hardest worker in the New World.  That didn't mean that no one else in the New World was hard working-that was a lie.  Everyone in the New World was hard working.  You tried your best at every moment of every task.  Then, Ama was wheeled off through the...

Doors

and into the hallway.  She was off to the Surgical room, where her personality chip would be inserted into her.

Profile page after profile page came on screen.  Some people had the same jobs, but no one had the same name or personality trait.  And none of them looked the same.  Which made sense.  In the New World, everyone was different, from their name to their looks.  Finally, it was my turn.

"Number 33," the Conservators voice spoke.

I clutched the handles on my chair, ready to see who I was.

Name: Laila

Job: Attendant-Curator

Immedietly, I noticed an error.  I knew every job there was, from the popular ones, to the more rare ones, but there was no job known as Attendant-Creator.  And I knew the other Youths and guides didn't know either.  Their expressions were full of...

Confusion.

The conservator's voice spoke calmly out of the silence.

"Do not worry.  This job is a job only for one person.  It's a new job I created around the time your generation of Youths were born.  An Attended-Curator, helps me run the New World, helping me make it a better place to live in.   It is a one-time job, and a bit of an experiment.  I will explain more later, for now, let us continue on with the profiles." she explained.

I was still confused.  Why me?  Out of all the 100 Youths, was there something... different... about me?  If so, what?    What would I need to do on this job?  I cleared my head of all questions.  I wanted to look at my screen before number 34's profile went on screen.

Personality: Loyal

Loyal: giving or showing firm and constant support or allegiance to a person or institution.

And lastly, I glanced at my picture.  Like Ama's hair, my hair was black, but it was...

 flat, straight and long.

My eyes were blue, like the Conservator, but they were a...

Darker

blue.

I touched my face, and touched my hair, and pulled it in front of my face so I could look at it.  I had played with my hair so many times, I was familiar to the softness, but now it came with color, and volume.  It now had a meaning.  Suddenly, I was being wheeled through the doors and into the white hallway, which was...

Bright.

I had to squint until I was carted into another room, the Surgical room.  I was wheeled into a station, and the chair was being plugged into a wall and a computer.  A cart wheeled up next to me, covered in small little tools and wires.  The physician-Albert who was smart-and the technician- Coiseam who was steady-looked down upon me.

"Ready?" the Coiseam asked.  I nodded, I was always ready for anything.  For everything.  Back in my room, I was always ready to wake up, ready to eat, ready to learn, and ready to sleep.  My name personality should've been ready instead.  Albert pulled out a...

Shot.

It looked sharp.

"This serum will put you to sleep while we inject the personality chip.  When the needle," Albert pointed to the sharp tip at the top of the shot, "is pierced into the skin, it will sting a little.  But it will go away in a few seconds.  Just a warning." Albert warned me.

He lowered the needle and pushed it into my bare arm.  He was right, it... it...

Hurt.

Hurt: cause physical pain or injury to.

Pain: physical suffering or discomfort caused by illness or injury.

I almost spoke out it was so unexpected.  Never before had I ever felt 'pain'.  There was nothing that could ever hurt me or Pain me in my room.  It was a new experience that I wasn't ready for.  So maybe that was why my personality wasn't ready.  Suddenly, I 'felt' sleepy.  My eyes felt the urge to close.  And then, in 7.6 seconds, everything went dark, and all the noise went silent.

#####################################################################################

Hey guys, I forgot to tell you when my update schedule is. Either every week or every two weeks, on Saturday or Sunday.  I might publish earlier of later, but if it goes later than three weeks, remind me!

Btw, the whole ... (Word) thing is annoying me so I might stop doing it once Laila knows and recognizes what and who everything/everyone is.

Question #3: What job do you think you would have?  And what would you do if you got a job or a personality you don't like?
