Greatness
It was hours until the Queen of the Rainwings returned.
Greatness had patiently watched Deathbringer spit out death threats and insults for hours, so she was actually delighted seeing her old rival and her shaky ally.
Glory landed on a tree and folded her wings. Her scales were a regal purple, but bits of white flitted across her snout. Her eyes were as shocking green as always, but Greatness held in a smile when she saw that they were puffy and swollen.
Beautiful? Glorious? Please.
Tsunami also looked worn out, and her gills flared out angrily as she glared at Greatness.
"Deathbringer of the NightWings," Glory, to her credit, had a firm voice. "You have harmed a dragonet of destiny, Princess of the Seawings and a personal friend to the Queen that you serve. You cannot continue to be my Bodyguard. I would have you sent to your death if you had not served me well over the years."
Greatness felt energy waving up and down her scales. Everything was working fabulously.
"Loyal subjects will watch you from now on. I never want to see you again." Glory's voice broke down at the last words, but her eyes held the gaze of Deathbringer.
Deathbringer hung his head. He made indistinct choking noises, but looked up to say one more thing. "Too bad."
Glory offered him a small, sad, half smile. "Too bad?"
Greatness watched with contained jealousy, but let them speak. After this was over, there would be nothing left between these two.
"Yes," Deathbringer flashed a pained smirk. "I definitely want to see you again. I won't stop until I can get back your trust."
Glory seemed to melt like ice in the Sandwing Kingdom, but she hardened when she looked at Tsunami, who was being uncharacteristically quiet.
"Just go away."
Deathbringer flew off, escorted by some sleepy rainwings. He stayed silent, but his eyes brimmed with all the conflicting emotions.
