Chapter Ten:
Goal:
"Where is he? I want to see him, now."
"He's sleeping I-"
"I don't care, show me where he is!"
I stood up, and gently placed Elliot's hand back onto the bed. He had been asleep for about an hour, tightly gripping one of my hands in his. I left the room and closed the door, leaving the physio room into the hallway where people were shouting.
"Oh my god Isla! Is he ok?" Theo screamed at me and grabbed me by the shoulders. I took his hands off my shoulders and nodded.
"Theo, calm down. He's ok, he's ok." I soothed as he panicked. I had never seen him look so worried. He was frantically pacing and pulling at his hair.
"What's wrong with him?"
"Concussion and bruising, he'll be out for a few weeks but nothing lasting." The physio explained and Theo nodded, sliding to the floor and sighing.
"Thank god."
"He's asleep but you can come in if you're quiet." I suggested and Theo nodded. I led him through the room and gently opened the door. I let Theo sit on the chair I was in as he stared at Elliot, sleeping soundly in the same position I left him in. Theo ran his hand over Elliot's bruised face.
"Oh mate." He whispered, wincing at the site of the bruises and cuts. Elliot stirred and Theo removed his hand. "At least he's ok."
"That's the main thing." I smiled. It was adorable, to be frank. The way these boys cared for each other was something I had never seen before. I never had that with anyone.
Elliot rolled onto his back and yawned. His eyes fluttered open and he stretched, wincing as he moved.
"F*ck me is my head pounding." He muttered and I giggled. I picked up the pack of tablets the physio had told me to give him when he woke up and got the right amount out along with a glass of water.
"Here take these." I said and gave them to him. He looked over at me and smiled.
"You stayed." He whispered, his voice hoarse and I nodded.
"Of course."
He attempted to grin at me but winced instead at the bruising over his face and took the tablets from my hand. Once he was done with them Theo spoke up.
"Mate, talk about scaring everyone."
Elliot's head turned towards Theo and he laughed.
"Sorry to ruin the game."
"I know, always the centre of attention ay. You just wanted a special mention in Isla's report." Theo winked and Elliot continued to laugh. I smiled at the pair and checked my phone.
"I should probably get going, get to writing this report. You're in good hands now Elliot." I said and he nodded.
"Thanks Isla." He muttered and I tilted my head and smiled sweetly at him.
"Don't be stupid." I muttered, grabbed my things and left. I quickly found Coach, explained about Elliot and he told me he would go to see him, before I went back to houses to get to writing the report – as only god knew it would take me a while.
I didn't hear from Elliot for the rest of the day – or the next. But I was so caught up in writing that I didn't notice how quickly the days went by. And before I knew it, it was training night.
I printed the report and stapled it together. I chucked it into a folder that went straight into my bag, before I got dressed into a v-neck, long sleeved, peplum spotty top with some light blue jeans and my vans. I couldn't get over how comfortable they were. I chucked my long coat on, tied my blonde hair half up and slapped on some make-up before I left. I was nervous. I felt bad for not seeing Elliot, but I didn't want to intrude on him constantly. He already had to spend enough time with me, I doubted he wanted even more when he was injured.
The path that took me to the stadium was packed today; there were students loitering all over the place and I sighed when I spotted a group of people from my class. I hadn't been to lessons in a while. I didn't need to. I was excused due to my report, but I still went when I could and received all my work over email. Though the report was important – I couldn't fall behind. I tried to slip past them with my head down but to no avail.
"Hey, Pierce!"
I cursed under my breath but turned with a bright smile on my face.
"Oh hey..." I trailed. I could never remember her name. She was a pretty, tall, skinny blonde with perfect teeth, perfect eyes, perfect brows and perfect make-up. Her manicure was never chipped and there was never a hair out of place. She never had roots as she was 'naturally' blonde and she was always dressed immaculately in mini skirts and heels. She tried her best to be nice to everyone, but she often cracked with a bitchy remark or face. I was one of the people she tended to crack in front of.
"I noticed you have not been attending class. Something going on at home again?" She asked, her head tilted as she faked caring.
"Nope. Just doing my report." I said and nodded towards the stadium. She faltered for a second before frowning.
"I don't quite understand."
I managed not to roll my eyes and instead smiled up at her as she analysed my casual outfit. She sneered but caught herself as I looked at her.
"I write the match reports for the academy boys. So, I don't have to go to class as this is my coursework." I explained and she perked up suddenly.
"The academy boys?" She asked with an eyebrow raised. There was an evil look in her eyes, and I knew what was coming.
"Yeah so I best be going before I'm late. They're even stricter than-"
"You don't go until I say so!" She interrupted with a scream and I flinched. She immediately giggled as she looked around to see if anyone had heard her outburst. "You're going there now. How coincidental. I don't have a lesson. I'm coming with you." She smiled sweetly but it was all an act.
"I don't think-"
"I don't care." She shrugged and strutted towards the stadium.
"Kill me." I muttered as I trailed after her. I knew the boys. They had taken a while to warm to me – they would hate her. She was everything they seemed to hate – posh, full of money, with no sense of real life and Daddy's princess who got whatever she wanted. She was probably one of, if not the richest child in our college. And everyone knew it.
Once we got there, I pushed through the turnstiles, but she didn't follow. She looked down at the pieces of metal and frowned.
"I'm assuming you're going to let me in through a door." She demanded and I laughed.
"No. This is the only way in."
"But it's dirty."
"It's a football stadium. It's going to be dirty." I muttered. I was finding it hard not to snap at her. She didn't care about me. She never spoke to me unless she wanted something and yet here she was; intruding on my thing. The only place where I felt like I could be myself.
"Well I suggest you find another way to get me in before I phone my Father to tell him how dirty this place is and to get it shut down." She snapped and I sighed.
It was easier to let her have what she wanted than to try and argue about it.
About 5 minutes later I had found the caretaker and he let her in through a side door whilst giving me a hateful look for disrupting him from his morning paper. She strutted through, in her high stilettoes and I suddenly understood what the boys must have thought the first time I turned up to their training.
"Right you've got to stay out here. I'm already late for the team talk." I ordered and left her sat in the stands.
"Where are you going?" She asked in a worried voice. I stopped and took a deep breath before replying.
"To the changing rooms for the team talk."
"You get to go into the academy boys changing rooms?" She asked and I nodded.
"Yes. Now let me go."
"I'm coming." She said firmly and stood up.
"You can't."
"Why not?"
"Because they don't know you!" I exclaimed and took a few deep breaths to calm myself down. She laughed and tilted her head.
"Everyone knows me."
"Not these boys." I muttered and stalked off to the changing rooms in hope that she wouldn't follow me.
She did.
When I got there, I turned around to see her tottering after me and I groaned.
"Why are you here?" I asked her and banged my head against the door in frustration.
"Because. If you can socialise with the academy boys, then people like me can. Once they see me; they won't want you anymore." She sneered and I sighed.
"It's not like that I-"
"Isla. You're late." The door swung open and Coach appeared, and I nodded.
"I know. I'm sorry. I had a detour on the way here." I sighed and he nodded, looking over at blondie with confusion and slight disgust.
"I can see. Who is that?" He asked and I gulped. I still couldn't remember her name.
"Um. This is..." I trailed and she glared at me. "This is..." I was raking my brains for any name that I could put to her face, but nothing came.
"Honey." She growled, a look of thunder on her face as I sighed.
"Right. Why are you here exactly?" Coach asked her and she stuttered but looked up at him through her lashes.
"I found out Pierce here can socialise with the elite boys which just disrupts the whole order of things and isn't right in any way. Therefore, I came to replace her and give the boys something to aspire to so that they can hang out with people in the same league as them." She smiled sweetly at Coach who looked more confused with every word she said. I went hot in embarrassment. I thought she would have made up a reasonable lie to Coach to seem nice but no. She outright told him how she felt. Coach was quiet for a minute before he spoke sternly.
"Isla get into the changing rooms. Blondie go home." Coach nearly shouted and gently pushed me through the door. Honey looked at him in utter disgust and shock before he slammed the door closed on her face. My mouth dropped open at him. He was the only person, student or teacher in history to stand up to her.
"You know she will be straight on the phone to her Father, right?" I asked Coach and he looked over at me.
"Ask me if I care."
"Do you-"
"No. I don't give a crap. She-" He pointed at the door. "-Is what is wrong with this school." He snapped before nodding at me to sit down as he continued his team talk.
Elliot wasn't there. And I was sort of glad. I didn't want him to see me get walked over by a rich girl. As far as he was concerned, I was cool. And I wanted thing to stay like that.
