Chapter Three:
Goal:
5:30 AM.
5:30 AM. On a Saturday.
I threw my covers off myself and sat up groggily, shivering at my cold room. The walls were a pale yellow, the duvet a bright yellow and despite trying to hide it with photos, the walls reflected the sunlight pounding through the window. I hopped into the shower hoping it would wake me up. I didn't even get up that early during the week. In fact, I didn't think I had ever gotten up that early in my life. I dried my hair straight and grabbed a pair of black skinny trousers, pairing them with a brown high-necked jumper, hoping it would keep me warm this early in the morning. I put on some flat shoes, after the state my heels got into the day before and grabbed a smart black coat. I chucked a layer of mascara on after completing my face makeup. I had never gone out of my room without a full face of make-up on. It would simply be horrendous.
After packing a bag with my laptop, pencil case and notebook I headed towards the sports centre. It was about a 10-minute walk from houses, across the campus of our college. It was still dark when I left, and the gardeners were around, sprucing up flowers and cutting the grass. Once I reached the building, a chill in my bones from the morning air, I entered through a side door and ended up in a corridor. I walked around, not having a clue where I was in the plain white building. I heard voices to a room on the left and knocked on the door, praying Coach was in there. The talking stopped, and the door opened.
"What- Oh it's you." A boy said. He was tall, around 6'2 with brown hair, short around the sides and longer on top. He had blue eyes, was broad but skinny and was extremely good looking. I had never seen him before.
"Uh, hi. Coach told me to come but I don't know where I've got to go." I said and twirled a piece of my blonde hair in my fingers. He looked at me blankly before turning back.
"Oi Theo, where's the bird supposed to go?" He shouted. His voice was gravelly, deep...sexy. I winced at the nickname 'bird'. It was horrible.
"My name isn't 'bird'." I said harshly.
"What is it then?" He asked and crossed his arms over his chest, making his arm muscles bulge in the black training top they were in.
"Isla." I said confidently, and he snorted.
"Isla. Ok. Great." He laughed and walked into the room. I followed him hesitantly and frowned.
"What's that supposed to mean exactly?" I asked, my voice raising.
"God, you're posh too. Theo! Told you she's like them!" He shouted and rubbed his eyes.
"Na, give her a chance I'm sure she's – Oh, hello again." Theo said. He was sitting on a bean bag, a controller in his hands facing a television screen. He was wearing black shorts, socks and the same t-shirt as the other boy.
"Hi. Is this where I'm supposed to be?" I asked, looking between the two boys. They looked at each other and shrugged.
"Aint' got a clue babe." Theo said, he was reasonable common compared to most people in the college. Even compared to the other boy. It was odd, my whole time at the college I had only met people who spoke even posher than I did, yet as soon as I stepped foot into the Academy, most of the people I had spoken to made me seem posh.
"Oh." I muttered and pursed my lips. "That's great then." I muttered, and Theo screamed suddenly as he got overtaken in a race he was playing. I jumped out of my skin and he laughed.
"Sorry dol, you can come chill here with me if you want." He winked, and my mouth dropped. I wasn't sure what to say.
"Theo stop teasing her she doesn't understand." The other boy said. He walked over to the counter in the corner of the room which had a kettle, microwave sink and fridge. There were a few round tables with chairs opposite the counter, then the door, and on the side where Theo and I were is where the bean bags, sofas, televisions and consoles sat.
"Shut up El, she loves it." He winked again, and I frowned.
"No, I don't." I muttered and El laughed.
"Told you bro."
"Shut up Elliot." Theo said, and Elliot laughed again. "But you might as well chill here for a bit until coach comes Isla. You're early." Theo said. He ran his hand through his hair, and I checked my watch to find it was only half past 6.
"Ok, as long as that's ok with both of you." I said and headed towards the tables, dropping my bag on the floor. Theo and I looked pointedly at Elliot who was spooning a chocolatey looking powder into a beaker and filling it with milk. I cringed. Who could drink milk like that? Elliot simply shrugged and mixed his drink.
"Don't care." He said bluntly, and I rolled my eyes behind his back. Theo sniggered, and I realised he saw me. Elliot was so moody but so hot. How unfair.
"Oi Isla do you want a go?" Theo asked and held the controller up at me.
"No thanks." I said, looking down at him like he was crazy.
"Alright. Why you sitting up there? You aren't eating come down here." He said and nodded at the bean bags. I pulled a disgusted face and shook my head.
"No thanks."
"Why not?" He asked and turned back to his game.
"It's just not very... ladylike." I shrugged, and Elliot laughed.
"You're definitely going to be hard work." Elliot said, and I gasped.
"Why does everyone keep saying that?" I exclaimed, and Theo sniggered.
"Maybe it's true."
"I just don't understand why I'm going to be hard work." I sulked, and Elliot laughed again, a deep throaty laugh that made my insides churn.
"You won't even sit on a beanbag." Theo deadpanned, and I huffed.
"People like you don't understand." I huffed and crossed my arms.
Both boys looked at each other before Theo laughed.
"What do you mean 'people like us'?" Elliot questioned, turning to look at me with a slightly hurt expression on his face.
"I...You know..." I trailed, and both boys looked at me seriously. "Just... You know...You guys don't really socialise with people like me."
"Oh, bloody hell." Elliot grumbled and turned around.
"You know if you're gonna say stuff like that people like us will have even more of a reason to hate people like you." Theo muttered, and I frowned.
"I don't want you guys to hate me." I said. That was the opposite of my plan. It was just hard. No one ever understood me. I was too common for my family but here I was too posh for the boys. I didn't know where I stood.
"Then you need to work on not being so judgemental." Theo said. and I huffed again.
"I'm not judgemental."
"Start acting like it then." He said, and I frowned. Elliot walked over to the table, shaking his drink and took the seat next to me. I shrugged my coat off and placed it neatly on the back of my chair. Elliot looked over at me with one eyebrow raised and sighed before gulping his drink down. I frowned.
I really didn't understand what I was doing that was so wrong.
I flicked my hair over my shoulder, stretched my arms over my head and yawned. It was way too early for this. I caught Elliot staring at me as I did this, and he scanned my outfit.
"First thing's first, wear trainers next time." He said, and I looked over at him in shock.
"I don't own trainers."
Theo burst out laughing again and Elliot put his head in his hands.
"I don't know why I bothered." He grumbled and stood up. He walked over to Theo and slumped down onto a bean bag, grabbing a controller and joining in. I sighed and got my laptop out, beginning to get some English work done whilst I waited for Coach to turn up.
It was going to be an extremely long day.
