G0RY OF THE GODS
Chapter 1
Unseen Land of Glory
The Premise
Earth haunted from the scourge of uninhabited regions. Aroma stunned his nostrils hinting at burnt rotten eggs. His body quaked, temples throbbed, and he kicked a hole in a concrete wall. Profanities pinged at proper propriety. Radiation remained rampant in his reflections. Babbling choked him. Gargles erupted from his throat. A hundred years banishment rendered a simple requirement - stop the wars - plant crops, breed cattle, goats and sheep. The gods rejected their responsibility by requiring tributes and sacrifices. They ripped resources from infants and widows. Struggling and rumbling emerged from the disenchanted. Small mountain states survived the scars which stained sizable metropolitan sections.
Lord Nick, a minor (Lessor,) god reigned over a small region influencing a dozen villages and one city. He advised Zeus in various ventures as chief scribe and librarian. The sacred scrolls provoked clutching his breath. The people beamed in the presence of Nick. They thrived during his leadership. They survived with satisfaction. He expended his power to create a prosperous valley concealed by mountains. He labored alongside his citizens. He toiled among them, and they reveled and relished their lifestyle. It required work, but they reaped rewards. A district of shining people evolved.
His section escaped the wars. They evaded the cost of fortifying their perimeter, employing a militia or raising taxes to sustain the war effort. Their men and women skirted the ravages of battles. The populace infused peace in the valley. The secluded area persisted unnoticed. A calm remained in the world refrained from suffering the battles. The wars rumbled in accessible parts of the world.
Age avoided Nick. He maintained the body of a man thirty years old. His build instigated the other gods to spite him. The single women in his villages swooned and attempted to get close to him. He married a local girl, Elbon. She perished giving birth to his only child – a daughter named Elithe. The power he initiated proved ineffective against his true love's infection.
Nick's face puffed, and his eyes reddened while he wiped his nose. A pain developed in his chest permitting his shoulders to crumple. Clouds clogged his remembrance of eighteen years earlier. A Lessor lacked the power to heal. Supremes received the gift, but all met in an unidentified location. The power to locate them continued allusive. The scream he screaked shook the world.
The night she died wrecked desire to breathe and provoked years of agony.
Elithe said, "Daddy, I understand how Momma selected you. All the young women give you the 'look.'"
"What look?"
"They swoon as you near them. Their oos, ahs and giggles are icky." You are the superior selection in the valley."
"There are only two women in my life."
"Momma and me."
"You are my light. You provide me a reason to subsist."
"I am your daughter. You are required to love me."
"Maybe, but you make it easy."
"Daddy!"
He chuckled deep and quiet. His heart fluttered as a grin surfaced on his lips and he mellowed. Nick shifted to a strut in his stroll. A vision pleased his affection for the flora in the valley. His glare froze on the mountains.
