Tip #4

Apostrophes

Apostrophes: shows ownership typically with proper nouns
-can get tricky regarding nouns such as the ex: Sunday's football game. A hard day's work. Both are correct but "violate" the proper noun rule.
Ex. Jack's dog is brown. Sophie's hair is blonde.

Other uses:
*Usually with nouns that ends with the letter s can be written in two ways:
-Jones's house or Jones' house

*Two people own something:
-wrong: Jon's and Mary's cat
-right: Jon and Mary's cat

*Apostrophes do not indicate that something is plural.
-There are many cooks in the kitchen.
-The cooks were in Bob's kitchen.
