Chapter 3
I woke up about nine o'clock. I got up, and changed into a comfortable, camouflage, T-shirt, and some gray sweatpants. I walked to the elevator, and pressed the first floor button. The elevator went down, and it was full of silence, expect the elevator music. I slightly tapped my foot to the music. I sighed, while thinking about the past. We were heroines and heroes, but I'm not sure we are now. Let me tell you about it. We all knew each other. We were just a ragtag bunch. We met in kindergarten. Anyway, we were walking around the town, eating ice cream. Grace saw a shady man walk into the bank, and Max saw a gun in his pocket, when Grace mentioned him. Long story short, we got the robber, and saved some life's. And a few thousand dollars. We started cave exploring, and got our own T.V. show. We're famous now, and we're not just hometown heroes. The elevator stopped, and the doors opened. I walked out, and entered the cafeteria. I saw everyone at a table in the middle of the cafeteria. I noticed that they were eating, so I walked over to the buffet table. I got pancakes, some fruit and chocolate syrup. I brought my food to the table and sat down. Everyone had a smile. "Looks like everyone is in a better mood today," I said glancing from Grace to Jay. They both had an embarrassed face on. I sat down next to Jonah and Greyson. "We were just talking about you," Gretchen said. "Yeah," Greyson said, "remember when you had the most hilarious Halloween costume!" Everyone laughed, just hearing about it. I took a bite of my pancakes and after I finished it I replied calmly, "It was just a ghost." Jay laughed saying, "It wasn't a ghost." Grace giggled, "I'm not even sure it was a costume." Jonah chuckled, "It was just a bed sheet with holes in it!" We all laughed. I took another bite. We ate, and talked about stories from the past. By the time we finished eating and were about to leave, I had tears in the back of my eyes, because I just was amazed how we got here, because those moments are, the ones you share with your loved ones, are the most important. You see, when I was little, my parents died, so I moved in with my Auntie Attalas. Me and her were never close. I never have been close to family. Only friends. After we ate I said, "We need to go. Everyone go change into your gear and meet in the lobby." Everyone nodded and we headed up stairs. We all got in the elevator, still talking. The doors opened and we went in our rooms. I cried for a minute. I got my gear and a bag. I put some on and put the left gear in the bag. Lastly I grabbed my hat and left. You know it's one of those hard hat thingys with the light on it. I don't know what they're called. Anyway, I went to the elevator, and got in. It slowly went to the lobby. I stepped out and looked around. I saw the crew in a corner, sitting in armchairs. "What took so long?" Max asked. "Oh, nuttin," I lied thinking of all the stories, my eyes threatening to cry. "Well, what are we waiting for?" Gretchen asked. Grace giggled, "Let's go!" We started to walk out of the lobby, when I heard, Jay whisper to me, "What's wrong? I know there's something up." I looked at him, then looked ahead. We opened the doors."Well-" I said cut off by cheers and screaming. I looked around at all our fans, and tears up to my eyes. I felt a tear run down my face as I yelled, "HELLO GREENLAND!!!" Jay looked over at me. "So that's what's wrong," Jay said to me. "What?!" I asked. "You miss home!" Jay said. "Shush!" I yelled, "And no. Maybe. I miss my parents..." I felt tears soak my face. Jay hugged me and we stopped walking. A hush fell over the street. The rest of the crew looked behind at us, and walked over to us. "What's wrong Alice?" Grace asked. "Yeah," Jonah nodded. I sputtered out one word, and they understood, "Parents..." They ran up and hugged me. I heard a fan yelled, "What happened to them?!" They let go, and I said, "My parents were m-murdered." Everyone gasped or said, "I'm sorry for your lose." Flashbacks of that day played over and over. My dad heard a window break, and yelled at my mom to hide me. She hid me, and my parents, went in the same room. I was only six, but my parents borrowed a lot of money, and couldn't pay it back, so I knew to stay still and quiet. The murderer broke down the door with a knife in his hand. He stabbed my dad, and kidnapped my mom. I don't know where she is to this day. We walked on, and the cheering started up again. We soon reached the building to enter the cave. We got in and set up. Once Jonah, Greyson, and Gretchen were done I got a call. "Hold on. It's my Aunt," I said. I walked away from them and answered. "Hello?" I said. "Alice? Is that really you?!" A voice said. The voice sounded familiar, but it wasn't Aunt Attalas. "Who is this? What have you done with my Aunt?" I asked. Yes, we were never close, but she's the only family I have left. An extra voice filled the background, and laughed. "Aunt?" I asked. "Nope," the voice giggled. I couldn't believe what the voice said next, "it's your mom!"
