Different (Harry)
Guide:
(Y/N): Your Name
(Y/L/N): Your Last Name
A request from Emily7456, thank you! In this one, you're in Slytherin...and I really don't know which story this would follow, so let's just make it a random episode or something since Harry doesn't get injured in Quidditch much unless there are Dementors on the pitch, or McLaggen hit him with a Bludger. But of course, YOU'RE not McLaggen, right? So...yeah...
"And Angelina Johnson gets the Quaffle again, ooh she is SUCH a tough one there, such a beauty too--"
"JORDAN!"
You only snickered as you swung your Beater bat menacingly at the opposing team, your green Quidditch robes flapping harshly in the wind. Yes, today was just another match for you and your team against the Gryffindors, and as you heard your Transfiguration teacher, Professor McGonagall, scold the commentator of the game, Lee Jordan, your head was filled with nothing but winning the match. If you did, it would mean immediate access to the finals against Hufflepuff, who already won their match against Ravenclaw a while back.
"Sorry Professor!" Jordan cried, pulling his scarf close to him. "Sorry! Okay, and then Johnson passes it to Spinnet--ooh, hard hit from Montague! Now it's Montague with the Quaffle, passing it to Flint, who passes it back to Montague, and they are heading to the Gryffindor goalposts--come on, Wood, SAVE!"
The Slytherin side cheered, however, as Wood failed to save the Quaffle this time that Montague threw, earning your house 10 points. You grinned as another Bludger came your way, hitting it hard with your bat at one of the Gryffindor players you didn't recognize--a younger student with black hair and glasses. Instantly, as soon as the Bludger made contact with his head, he immediately went down, falling off his broomstick and landing hard on the pitch on his back.
"OY! (Y/L/N)! YOU PRAT!" you heard one of the Gryffindor Beaters--one of the Weasley twins, you figured--shout at you.
The whistle was blown, and the Gryffindors were given a penalty shot, while some of the other professors picked up the younger player on the ground and took him away. For the first time in your Quidditch career, a pang immediately hit you hard in the chest--a pang of guilt that made you tune out of the game completely. Maybe you were playing by the rules, but you never expected to hit someone and send them to the hospital wing completely unconscious.
Time seemed to pass so quickly you were confused as the Slytherins started to cheer for your team at the end of the game, with Malfoy holding up the Snitch in glee and in triumph.
"YEAH!! TAKE THAT POTTER!" Malfoy cried. "Oh yeah, that's right! He's not even here anymore!"
Potter? He didn't mean...the Harry Potter, didn't he?
"Shit," you murmured, immediately descending from the sky, avoiding the rest of the team as you flew away, jumping off your broom the moment you got to the castle and ran all the way to the hospital wing, your heart pumping with adrenaline. You didn't care if the Gryffindor team hated you now for hitting their Seeker hard on the head, and you didn't care if the Slytherin team found you missing as they all went down to the dungeons to celebrate their victory and their impending final against Hufflepuff. No. That doesn't matter anyone. Never have you injured anyone to that state before, and it scared you.
Eventually, after a while, you managed to get to the hospital wing, panting.
"Ahh. A Slytherin Quidditch player," Madam Pomfrey said with such indifference, it made your heart freeze with guilt. She only clucked her tongue and approached you with such a brisk pace you didn't even have time to think about what you were going to say when she suddenly said, "Well, you don't look injured. Can I help you with something?"
You nodded. "Uh. Yes. As a matter of fact, uh...is Harry Potter here?"
Madam Pomfrey nodded in shock. "Why, yes he is. Why? Aren't you only supposed to be concerned with people of your own team?"
"Not really," you said. "But...uh...can I just--"
"Ugh..."
You whirled around to see the boy has stirred and awoke, and was looking at you with a slightly confused and yet angry look on his face.
"I...I guess I'll leave you with him then," Madam Pomfrey relented, giving you and the boy a final glance before walking off.
You slowly approached the boy's bedside now, your hands trembling and shaking as you gripped onto your broom for stability. A closer look told you that Malfoy was right, that this is the Boy Who Lived, that this is Harry Potter. Your breathing didn't slow at all, or steady at this realization--in fact, you felt your stomach clench painfully as you looked at him.
"Hi," you said in a soft and low tone, your throat as dry as paper.
The boy looked up at you sadly, his eyes widening at the colour of your Quidditch robes. "Hi."
You gulped nervously as you tried to figure out what to say next. Eventually, you took a deep breath and spat the words out. "I'm sorry."
"Wait, what?"
"I'm sorry," you repeated. "Normally I don't hit people this hard, and this is the first time I accidentally hurt someone in a Quidditch Game." Tears threatened to spill from your eyes, and you mentally slapped yourself for crying in front of someone younger than you. How? Why?
The boy just smiled weakly. "Don't worry. I've been through worse before," he managed to say. "It's okay."
"You sure?" you asked, relieved that he wasn't completely angry at you, and you dropped your broom to the side as you sat down on the chair beside his bed. "I mean, how hard was the hit?"
The boy laughed. "Not that badly. I only got a minor concussion, but I should be okay. By the way, my team was in here just moments ago. They told me if they see you I should slap you hard for hurting me." He shook his head. "But I refuse."
"Why?" you asked, speechless. "You're a Gryffindor. I'm a Slytherin. And for what I know, we should hate each other!"
"It's wrong, though," he said. "All you did was hit me. At least you're not like some of the other Slytherins I personally know, like the Seeker on your team."
"Malfoy? Draco, right?" You nodded. "I agree with you. He's kinda annoying some of the time."
The both of you laughed for a bit before the doors of the hospital wing opened again to reveal the Weasley twins, running to Harry's bedside.
"OY! YOU! (Y/L/N)! Harry!"
Both of them were shouting random things at the same time, and it took all of Harry's strength to stop them.
"GUYS! She's a friend!" Harry cried. "It's okay. She...she didn't mean it," he said, sitting up in bed to face the twins. "It's okay. She's not, like...Malfoy."
Shock seemed to register in the twins' faces before they eventually nodded.
"That's okay," the one on the left shrugged. "Things like this happen. We were just worried about his state after, you know," he eventually said, shaking your hand. "I'm Fred Weasley."
"(Y/N) (Y/L/N)," you introduced yourself. "And who's the other twin?"
"I'm George Weasley," the other twin said, shaking your hand.
"Well, I'm sorry about your loss," you said, glancing back at Harry. "I mean...you guys deserved to be in the finals, but it's my fault, isn't it?"
"No it isn't," Harry assured you. "You did what you had to do. It's okay."
"Y-you sure?" you asked.
"Hey. At least that would mean Wood can yell at us for another year," George said, referring to their captain. "Don't worry! We all played a fair game."
"I...I guess," you smiled, feeling significantly better now that Harry forgave you and you eventually became good friends with the twins too.
Just then, Madam Pomfrey came in and ushered you all out. "Alright, alright, the boy needs rest!" she said, pushing you and the twins out of the wing. You obeyed and found yourself walking back to the common room, feeling significantly better. Though you never saw Harry much after that meeting, you knew you had his trust.
It was this sense of compassion for others that made you so different.
Hey hey! I hope this was okay, ugh I have such a horrid headache again and I barely got anything done except for updating 2 more of my books and eating and signing work contracts and now I have to go and reorganize orchestra music, whooppee...
Anyway, I hope you like this, somewhat. Wow, how many Harry requests have I gotten now? XD I hope to actually serve a wide diversity of characters here, though, so if you have requests for other characters I would love to hear from you.
I will have a Seamus Finnigan X Reader up next, so stay tuned!
