Something stirred in the dark. Something was walking around the Livinggood mansion. The full moon in midst of wandering white fluffy ghosts didn't do any justice to show the long dark silhouette walking around with a blissful smirk showcasing sharp long teeth and twisted short horns. Its eyes gleamed like obsidian pearls, its body smelled of sulfur and rotten flesh and its color was that of charred firewood.
Occasionally it would peer in through the windows that weren't draped yet and Lucy would see its devilish face. The thing would holler in laughter that rattled the windows and made a tap like noise on the door. Everyone heard the taps but couldn't do anything but stay sharp awake and feel their bones rattle.
Suddenly it stopped moving, it looked up at the beautiful sky and howled like a wolf. The neighboring dogs and wolves in the woods all around the small county started to howl simultaneously making an eerie voice. The voice traveled through their small countryside like an omen, awakening everyone from their slumber. Fear blanketed them all. But it was Lucy who was laughing and sweating profusely.
After it stopped howling, the ground trembled a bit and the thing watched three long figures waking up from the ground and three long figures getting down from the sky. The thing smirked and howled once again making the animals howl in frustration and fear.
Down the town road near to the exit, a dog nearly ripped its owner's throat had if not other people who walked out from their houses in search for the commotion saw it. The police were called immediately but a brave six foot five inches man threw a blanket over the dog and held him tight. The dog started to whine in terror. Immediately every other dog in the vicinity started to whine and whimper in fear. Even the cats started to cry in a very depressing voice.
When the girls ran to their parents in terror earlier, they came to ask Lucy what happened. There in the room, they saw a very frightened Lucy crying on her bed saying the girls walked away from her screaming at her as if she did something to them. Even though Katie and Emily tried to explain what happened, Lucy cried hard saying she didn't remember anything and she wouldn't do anything like that.
Confusion, frustration, exhaustion, and apprehension radiated through the family making it hard for them to look at each other. Help from the church was taking its own time to come. Not knowing what to do, they sat around with a bible in hand.
Lucy was once again alone in her room; crying after the noise had stopped. She knew something was going on, she knew something was coming, she can understand and feel it in her bones but she couldn't understand what was happening which made her scared for her and her family's life.
She sensed the things entering into her room. Suddenly the room felt dark despite it being lit brightly. Like a blanket, the room started to get spilled with darkness. Along with it, a chill permeated into the room. Lucy looked around but there were no open windows nor were there any silhouettes but she saw something coming. Shivering badly, she hid under the blankets but the cold chilled her to the bones. White tendrils escaped her mouth whenever she exhaled.
Getting up from the bed to walk out of the room, she felt her shoulders being gently pushed back into the bed. Scared at the sudden cold touch, she unknowingly fell to her back. She felt her jeans being pulled down as a cold and hot hand held her mouth. Big drops of tears fell down her cheeks wetting her ears and hair alike. Momentarily she felt something slid up her inner thighs. She closed her eyes shut and conjured up all her energy to scream but they got stuck in her throat. Lucy had no voice.
Piercing pain shot up through her womanhood making her squirm in pain and terror. Something was clawing her inner thighs and she could hear her skin being ruptured. Abominable pain blinded her for a second but when she regained consciousness, something was still in between her thighs. Sobbing noiselessly, she laid there pinned to the bed, enduring everything without being able to scream.
After long excruciating minutes, it stopped. Yet, she couldn't make a noise. Slowly she touched her inner parts to find it wet with blood. Her whole thighs and legs were covered in angry welts of all shapes and sizes. Gasping with pain as she tried to move, she once again laid back down crying with her fists to her mouth.
Suddenly she felt hot all over her body. Her sweats burned her skin, especially on her thighs yet the room continued to get hotter. For a second she lost her consciousness again and as she regained back, there were no wounds in her inner thighs. There was nothing at all and her jeans were in place. She slowly got up but she was sore in her womanly part. Wiping her tears, a sob broke out and she got her voice back.
As she felt her voice, she put her hands on the throat and was about to scream when icy cold fingers coiled around her neck choking her tightly. In the pressure, she saw there were seven apparitions with burning orange eyes, standing close to her, looking at her intensely. She shut her eyes as fear wrapped her in cold sweat. Lucy gasped when the cold left her as easily as it got coiled.
There was no time for her to stop coughing, just as she inhaled deeply to fill her lungs with clean oxygen, she felt something pressurizing it way into her nose and windpipe. As she fell down struggling to breathe, she felt more and more things crawling deep into her nose and throat alike. After long painful minutes, she stopped struggling to breathe but she started to convulse with her hands tightly fisted to her sides. Her eyes rolled back. Lucy squirmed on the ground with her mouth hung open. A kind of white foam escaped her mouth.
Subsequent to the convulsions, as it stopped, her feeble body levitated six feet above ground with her hands held straight and parallel to her shoulders. She was then laid back onto the bed, with the blankets tucked down to her chin. Anyone who saw her wouldn't suspect something had happened seconds ago; it seems like she was sleeping peacefully.
Katie and Emily were searching through their old desktop computer and rickety internet connection for some reassurance and knowledge. But with the speed their internet connection provided, the task seemed to be painful. Angry, Em was about to break the screen when Katie stopped her just in time. The articles and news told them they were indeed in the clutch of a haunting.
"I can't believe this," Em said, rubbing her face with her hands.
"Well, you got to, I mean, I can't either but... this..." Katie said, thinking about all the times they laughed at the movies and programs they saw and read about the paranormal.
"I wonder what is happening to Lucy," Em said, typing in a few other keywords to the search engine.
Unfortunately, the network got shut down without any explanation. There wasn't even a storm raging. Exhausted, Katie switched it off.
"What are you doing?" Tina asked, scaring both girls alike.
"Gee, you scared us. Nothing, we were just searching for some answers but there is no network connection."
"Oh! What were you searching for?" Tina asked again, looking very curious.
Katie and Em shared a look. Just then, Mina entered into the family room with an apple in hand. Katie was really concerned about her health. Though Mina looked unhealthily thin; she ate a lot for the four girls combined.
"Aren't you going to hurt your stomach with all that you eat, Mina?" Katie asked for the first time.
"I don't know; nothing happened so far yet, I am just too obsessed with eating. I just love how my jaw muscles work when I am chewing different things. I can't help it." she answered honestly to Katie since she was the only one who never bothered Mina with how and what she ate.
Katie laughed, "Ask you something and you alone can entertain with such an answer." She said. Then the room was filled with an awkward kind of silence. Katie remembered Tina asked her a question, so she tried to answer. "Oh, Tina, we were looking at what was happening to us, you know. It's not easy for us to believe it and no matter how differently I tried, the answer still leads us to the suspicion of us being haunted."
"Katie, I am not sure why you can't believe it? I mean, is this normal? I don't think so."
"I know Tina, it's just... I..."
"Katie, it's not normal to feel and see such unexplainable things. What Patrick did was abnormal fear. What Lucy is going through might be early signs of possession. It's not normal and if you think something explainable, science is behind this, and then I have to say this Katie, come back to our Lord. There are lots of things people can't explain because they haven't experienced it. Seeing does not always help us to believe. Sometimes we don't see anything yet we have to believe in it. Such is the case of the paranormal, supernatural and preternatural stuff. It kills us silently."
"How do you know about such stuff in depth Tina?" Katie asked frustrated that she sounded so sure and correct.
"Did you forget I have taken theology, science and paranormal science as my subs?"
"Ah, I am sorry; I kind of forgot everything once this hit us. Saying that I think we had an assignment for the class I took for English literature. I am not sure I can complete it now." Katie said and Em reflected her fears since she has taken the same classes as Katie; English literature. Lucy had taken languages.
"First, focus on Lucy. I don't think the curse or the paranormal happening in that house dragged you there since you remember... your horses took you there without any persuasion. It's not like you drove by there with the intention of finding the place. You reached there by accident."
"What are you trying to say, Tina?" Em asked cautiously.
"I think there is something in this place that links you to that place, dragging you there," Tina said, deep in thought.
"Tina, we practically grew up here. This is our house. We only went away for a year and we came back and this happens? I don't think so. If it was linked here, my house, then why didn't we stumble upon there earlier?" Katie said.
"I don't know! Then there must be something that dragged you there. Did you do something stupid like play with the Ouija board before or went to some abandoned haunted places, houses or anything?"
"We were only alone for about three or four weeks which we used to get used to the place, after that you guys were there with us for the whole year. I don't think we did something sneaking behind your backs." Em said, thinking back, carving through her memory lane.
"Then there must be something. Something..." Tina said impatiently.
The room was once again silent, deep in thought. No matter how hard they tried, how much they twisted each theory; there was no possible explanation for the idea Tina had sparked.
The grownups were in their own world practically clawing through theories in their own way to find some reassurance as to why this happened now and not before. The girls were famous for being famous five in their county. But never have they once gone in that direction of the haunted house.
Of course, there were people brave enough to search the 'haunted house'; only to run away from there, screaming in terror. Many people who ran into the woods have never been found again and those that were found were marked dead by some wild animal attacks.
After a while, the place was shut down by the police with possible punishments and warning if anyone ventured there by mistake. The place was deadly in its existence.
So, what was the reason why the girls stumbled there? It's not like the curse invited them there since the family had nothing to do with it. Also, it was not in the nature of that house to invite people and haunt them and their family. No, it was an innocent haunted house that existed there who terrified people if they went there.
So, once again they reached to the same question; how and why the girls reached there. Why suddenly the curse was lifted upon their family? It was not like the girls steered their horses there, the horses took them there. What happened then?
They were waiting for getting a church approval and it was taking time. Patrick was fed up with the waiting since the more they were late, the more it was affecting one of the girls; most probably the quiet one of the three- Lucy.
Deep in thoughts, both grownup and the girls were jerked awake from their haze as a loud piercing scream resonated through the utterly silent house like a knife slicing through them. They all realized it was coming from Lucy's room. They ran like there was no tomorrow.
Nearing the room, it felt colder than the winter season. Shivering badly, Julian raised his hands to the handle only to curse out loud and withdraw his hands. The handle of the door was scorching. He removed his shirt and opened the door.
They were never ready to witness what was happening in that room.
