Returning home was a daring thing for Katie but exciting for Em. Lucy was undoubtedly in a daze; loving wherever she was, enjoying whatever she can as long as it was safe. She soon forgot all that was troubling her mind once she fully settled in her family home. 

Immersed in deep thoughts, Katie didn't listen to what Em and Lucy were talking about.

They were back in their childhood room and it was maintained just as they left it. Lucy giddied seeing her pink frilled bedding, placed in the middle of the other two beds which had blue and black beddings, respectively, decorated according to the girl's personalities. 

Lucy galloped with a smile on her face and jumped onto the bed, inhaling her fruity perfume. Whereas Em fell down face first into her black bed and groaned loudly which forced Lucy to roll her eyes.

Katie walked to the window and looked out to the wide land as if searching for something.

"Katie whatever is happening in that little shell of yours," Em said in a muffled voice since her face was still hidden in the blankets.

"Sorry Em, I got a... little... carried away."

Em got up from her bed and sat facing Katie; Lucy did the same.

"Katie, dear, don't you think about it too much. Please... don't make it unbearable for you," whispered Lucy empathetically.

Ignoring her innocent command with a smile, Katie whispered back which was more like a hushed cry "What were you saying, guys?"

"I was talking and thinking about that cute boy who helped me with my luggage back there in the bus station," Em said, once again falling back to the bed.

"Ha-ha, very funny. What are men compared to you." Lucy exclaimed.

Ignoring her, Em said with a sigh "Oh, I wish I could see him again, I never saw such a handsome fellow before." 

"Like those umpteenth guys you saw before him," Lucy said in a sing song voice.

"Oh hush, because you never see anyone attractive enough doesn't mean I have a bad taste like you," Em said with a huff.

"Alright, I agree but I daresay that if I had preferences like you, I believe I would have..." Lucy said but was stopped by a wild Em. "Complete that sentence and I will kick your goody butt."

"Oh hush you, you are worse than older couples," Katie said.

Lucy giggled while Em turned red, unable to show Lucy her piece of mind. With a huff, she picked some comfy clothes and walked to the big bathroom. Lucy sang a song softly as she placed her clothes in the wardrobe.

Katie once again turned back, watching the land outside with a forlorn look and decided it was enough, she grievingly sighed; Lucy went and stood near to her.

"Katie..." Lucy began but was stopped by her.

"Not a word, I wish not to hear of it," Katie said and Lucy knew when to stop when she used that tone.

Half an hour later Em walked out looking red and refreshed. Just then the bell rang indicating it was time for dinner.

"I can't wait to see what is going to be there for dinner. I bet they prepared a feast for us." Em exclaimed rubbing her stomach. Katie rolled her eyes at that comment.

At last, they got ready and walked down to have dinner with their family after a long while.

Dinner with family was just as expected, fun and energetic, unlike the measly take out and eat alone microwave food back there in town. Nanny and cook decided to give them a fabulous meal. Eating to the brink of bursting their stomach, they decided to call it a night. With cheesecakes and hot tea, they set out with their mothers into the family room to have a hearty conversation.

Em had all the stories to be shared. Lucy tried every moment to rile up Em and she succeeded every time. Katie was silent, listening to them talk, looking into the fire and laughed when necessary. Soon, their cheese cakes were over and what remained were stories and once the firewood burned out, their mothers yawned and walked them back to their rooms saying it was time to sleep. But, Em still had many more stories to share.

Once the girls were alone in the room, they couldn't go back to sleep. Because one, they were used to staying up late because of parties and simple sleepovers; also two, they were pretty excited after the meal.

Wild Em had an idea spontaneously; listening to that idea, Lucy paled whiter than a ghost.

"Katie, say no!" Lucy begged.

"I don't see what's wrong in it." Katie too had the wildest streak at times and that scared Lucy more than Em since Katie could do daring things which sometimes scared Emily.

"Oh God, why did I had to be friends with these girls," Lucy prayed loudly.

Em laughed at her and said, "Dorks, not girls, doofus dorks. Now get ready."

"No, I am not going anywhere," Lucy said.

"Suit yourself," Katie said enthusiastically.

For Katie, her mind needed a distraction from her thoughts but for Emily if was for pure fun.

Horrified, Lucy was faced with a dilemma. Should she go with them or should she not? What will happen if their parents find out? Will they find out? Lucy wanted to go with them but finally decided, no!

Happily, Em and Kat dressed into their comfy skinny jeans, cowboy boots- little small for their legs and tanks tops. They completed it with a thick hoodie. After securing themselves with a flashlight, their mobile phones, and little cash; they climbed down their windows and carefully walked through the sunshade to the oak tree adjacent to their house.

Luckily a branch had grown out to secure their plan since their childhood. Thus, with much confidence, Em climbed into it and pulled Katie with them. They saw Lucy looking at them forlornly. Em pulled her tongue out to her teasingly. But Lucy only walked back in.  

A text message pinged and Kat looked to see that Lucy decided that she would tag along. Em beamed happily. Waiting for her down, they heard the rustle and finally, they saw Lucy; an angry one, in fact.

Once they reached out to the stables, Lucy scolded them for making her do it.

What they didn't expect was their horses would recognize their voices. They got violent in their stables and Joseph got up with a start from his little house near to the stables. It was a good thing that the stables were little far away from the house and too far away from their parent's bedrooms.

Joseph seeing them at eleven in the night only smiled at them since this was what they did from a very young age. He tried hard to ease the horses but they wanted to see their masters and once he opened the cage, they came galloping like little lamps to the girls.

Black knocked down Emily. Goldie, Katie's horse came and put his head on her left shoulders. Walnut came licking Lucy's face just like always and knocked her down too. Then, walnut lay down next to her. After hugging Katie, Goldie stood on its hind legs and neighed loudly into the night sky.

Although the girls named their horse according to their shiny skin, Lucy named her chestnut colored horse on the nut she loved. Em always said, Lucy was a little nut case. 

Katie said, "Come on boy; let's take a run in the wild."

Three of the horses stood on their hind legs and neighed happily; making a ruckus. They got impatient and once the girls mounted on them, they chased into the night. They ran past the eastern end where there was a small fence dividing the land. They ran over it and into the night.

The girls loved feeling the rhythm and the wind in their hair. They ran for so long that the girls didn't see where they were going. The horses were out after so long being free and they ran without waiting for orders.

Once the girls had their share of night strolling, they looked at their surroundings. Lucy was behind them all. Emily was in the front and Katie away from the rest. Katie sharply whistled; hearing it, Emily slowed back down. 

After few seconds Lucy caught up and Katie stopped the horses. It was hard to make them stop. But, suddenly they stopped as if like a battery operated cars that abruptly got still. The horses started to whine and show uneasiness.

Katie got down from her horse and tried to console them. Rubbing its nose, she looked around and the place was overgrown, spooky and unfamiliar.

"We have come a long way. I really got carried away." Kat said to Em and Lucy who was still sitting on their horses.

"Me too, I loved the race too much. I have never been here before. This place looks odd and spooky. Let's go back."

"Yeah," Katie said and mounted on the horse again.

"What's that?" Lucy exclaimed looking to her right where there was a large gate a few yards away from them and the gate led to an overgrown pathway. At the end of it stood a large mansion with overgrown shrubs and ivy covering it. The moonlight helped them see and once again the horses started to whine.

Kat looked into it and saw what Lucy showed. In the first floor of the house, an orange light moved as if someone was walking with a candle in hand.

"Let's go, we may be in some other people's property," Emily said.

And with that, they turned to go but Kat looked back and there was no light. She thought whoever must have had that, was away from sight. She didn't think of it much. Kat said to her horse to go back the same way they came. Her horse, Goldie had a strong sense of direction.

They simply trotted the way for few minutes, teasing Lucy for being scared.

But, once they reached the small forest, their horses fidgeted and Katie realized they are truly lost. Emily switched on her GPS but it didn't work in this part of the world. Cursing out loud, they forced the horse to move forth and suddenly like their tail caught on fire, they sprinted through the forest.

Once again, they realized they were going the wrong way. Fear captured their hearts as their horses never stopped running. 

Lucy suddenly screamed which scared the girls and horse alike. But luckily, the horses did take them home through another way and they were greeted with a scared looking Joseph by the stables.

"I was so scared." That was the first thing he said looking at Lucy. The horses obediently went with him to the stables.

Emily started to slowly hoot sheepishly because of their old shipping of Joseph and Lucy but Lucy held her hands firmly and fell down unconscious.

The media file is nothing like our haunted house in my mind. In fact, I can't find one to my liking :D So, imagine your own mansion that they saw where the pathway ends :D
