Chapter 8

"Green or black and white bedroom?" I ask myself. "Decisions, decisions."

I have been shopping online for a hour already. I haven't bought anything yet. I can't decide what color theme I want. If I did blue then it could be a beach theme. If I did black and white it could be a vintage theme. I think I'm more vintage then a beach girl. Maybe I'll do vintage.

I need help deciding. I would call my mom back, but I'm not in the mood to talk to her. I know who I'll call. We're not close, but she'll know what I should do.

I grab my phone from next to me and dial her number. It rings for a few minutes, before she answers.

"Hello?"

"Riley. Hey, it's Natalie." I say, suddenly realizing how awkward this conversation will be.

"Oh, you mean my roommate that left without telling me?" She replies sarcastically.

"Uh, yeah. I'm sorry about that." I scratch my nose nervously.

"Did you not tell me because you thought I would freak out about you going to your brother's? I don't care that your brother is the famous Zayn Malik." Riley tells me.

"I know, and I should have realized that you weren't like everyone else." I start feeling bad.

"Yes, you should have. I have stood up for you so many times. Can we be friends now? No more purposely avoiding me?"

"That would be awesome." I agree.

"Good. Anyways, why are you calling me?"

"I have a question to ask you. I'm decorating my room here and I need a theme. I'm trying to decide between a beach theme or a black and white theme." I explain.

"I like the black and white theme. You know they have this paint where you can write on the walls and then erase the writing. It's like a white board. It's really cool. That way you could have friends or yourself write on it. Like quotes."

"Really? That's amazing. I'll do a black and white theme and then have the markers be bright colors!" I decide. "Thanks, Riley."

"Not a problem. Anything to help out a friend. I have to go. I'm heading back home for the summer. Talk to you later." Riley says before hanging up.

Well, at least one good thing came from that nightmare. Riley and I are friends now. I should have never thought she was like those other girls. Now I know there are good people in this world. Not everyone wants to tear me down.

Okay. Now I have my theme. Time to shop.

Knock, knock!

Who's here? Zayn never said anyone was stopping by. Maybe Zayn forgot to tell Niall that we weren't going shopping? No, that's not it. It's only nine. It would be too early for Niall to come by.

Knock, knock!

Ugh. I don't want to get up. I'm comfy. Maybe I'll just ignore it. No, I can't do that. It might be someone important. I lift my laptop off my lap and on the table where my feet were propped.

I dance my way over to the door. "All the other kids with the pumped up kicks. You better run, better run, outrun my gun." I sing while opening the door.

Niall is standing out in the corridor with his hands in his pockets. He is wearing a pair of jeans with a plain blue shirts, that makes his eyes seem even brighter. If that's even possible.

"Niall, what are you doing here? I thought Zayn told you I changed my mind?" I tilt my head to the side.

"He did, but I didn't want you to be alone. I figured I could help you shop online or you could cook me some breakfast?" Niall asks hopefully.

I giggle at his face. He looks so cute. "How about an omelette and some toast?" I step back to let him in.

"Yes!" Niall exclaims. "Thank you!"

"No problem." I laugh shutting the door. "What do you want in it?"

Niall follows me to the kitchen. "Cheese, sausage, cheese, egg, and more sausage."

"Can you get me a pan?" I grab the eggs, cheese, and some sausage from the fridge.

I stretch up on my toes to reach for a bowl on the top shelf of the cabinet. Why do I have to be so short? Normally, I don't mind being short, but at times like this it sucks. I wouldn't mind being a few inches inches taller.

A hand passes my vision and grabs the bowl for me. I look over my shoulder to see Niall smiling down at me. His breath fans out over my cheeks as I realize how close we really are.

What am I doing?

I step backwards as fast as I can. "Um, thanks." I grab the bowl from his hands, avoiding his gaze.

That was close. I almost let my guard down. That cannot happen again. Last time I got close to a guy it ruined my life. I refuse to let them happen again.

I grab the eggs and crack six of them in a bowl. I search through the drawers for a whisk. I find one in the second drawer and whisk the eggs together.

Niall is standing in the same position as before. He shakes his head and sits up on the counter next to the stove. I watch him from the corner of my eye.

What is it about Niall that makes me what to get to know him? I just feel like I can trust him. The only guy I can trust is Zayn. I can't allow myself to get close to him. Can I? He doesn't seem like a bad guy.

I open the fridge and grab the sour cream from the top shelf. I grab a spoon and scoop some sour cream in the bowl.

"What are you doing?" Niall wrinkles his nose.

"Trust me. It will taste good. My mom used to do this. It makes the omelets fluffier." I explain.

Gosh. I sound like such a hypocrite. Here I am telling Niall to trust me, when I can't even trust him. There is probably no way he can trust me. Honestly, I don't blame him. Why would you trust someone when they don't even trust you?

"I trust you." Niall surprises me by saying.

"Why?" I blurt feeling my face turn red.

"You seem like a trustworthy person." Niall shrugs his shoulders.

"How can you trust me when I can't even trust you?" I ask him. "I mean I don't trust anyone anymore. I only trust Zayn."

"Something happened in your past that made you like this. Not being able to trust anyone. Flinching away from people. I don't know what happened to you, but I'll always be here for you. I know we barely know each other, but you will learn to trust me. I'm not like any of those people that hurt you." Niall says sounding completely sincere.

"One day, I promise I will tell you. When that day comes promise not to judge me?" I whisper staring into his beautiful blue eyes.

"Let me make you a deal." Niall jumps off the counter. "I'm going to help you start trusting people again."

"How?" I raise an eyebrow, suddenly becoming interested.

"I have my ways, but you have put your guard down a little. Just enough for me to get to know you better. You don't have to tell me about your past." Niall says.

Why does he want to help me? How do I know he won't hurt me like Glen? He's best friends with Zayn, though. That must mean he is a good person. Zayn never hung out with bad people. He sees the good in everyone.

"What's in it for you?" I ask.

Niall grins. "Honestly, all I want right now is my omelet. I always want to help you, though."

A smile creeps up on my face. Niall doesn't seem like the kind of person to hurt someone on purpose. If I were to trust anyone it would probably be Niall. He is so sweet. He has been the one to talk to me the most. I've hurt him twice and he keeps coming back.

"Okay. Deal."

Author's Note:

Awh. Niall is going to help Natalie start trusting people again. It won't be easy, though.

Anyways, tell me what you think!
