I think Nick Wilde's character was partially based off of Despicable Me 2.

For one, he has the same looks and last name as Lucy WILDE, with red hair/fur and green eyes. Also, his personality kind of reminds me of Gru in the first movie, he doesn't seem to care about anyone but himself at first, and he torments Judy like Gru torments the girls. But later on, he becomes Judy's best friend like Gru becomes the girls adopted father

Also, now that I think about it, Judy reminds me a lot of Lucy, chipper and happy but brought down easily when times get to tough. Also she becomes Nick's best friend sort of like Lucy becomes Gru's wife. And Gru has blue jut like Judy.

If you not convinced that Disney ripped off Illumination, that's ok, there are a lot of pot holes, I understand
