05- Run

With Octavia leaning most of her weight on me, the two of us peer up at Finn and Jasper on top of the large rock above us. Held tight in his hand, Finn holds on the thick vine we stumbled upon that will help us make it across the river. There was no way that we would be able to swim across the river, not with that man-eating snake in there.

Jasper beams down at me, slightly bouncing on his toes. I can tell he is excited to do this, yet a little nervous like the rest of us. My biggest fear is that the vine will break right as one of us is flying over the river.

"You wanted to go first." Clarke says to Finn, who tugs on the vine once again to test to make sure it will hold his weight. "Now, quit stalling. Mount Weather awaits."

Jasper leans toward him. "Just hang on til the apogee and you'll be fine."

"The apogee like the Indians, right?"

"Apogee, not apache."

"He knows." Clarke says.

"Today, Finn." I say as he tugs on the vine again.

Finn salutes me with two fingers. "Aye, aye, captain."

I roll my eyes. I suck in a breath when Finn takes a step back, preparing himself to fly across the river.

"Wait." Jasper holds up a hand before he can get a running start.

I frown up at my brother. "Come on, Jasper!"

Jasper chuckles, glancing down at me before refocusing on Finn. "Let me. I can do it."

Finn hands over the vine. "Knew there was a badass in there somewhere."

I unwrap my arm from around Octavia to climb up on the rocks they are on. I pat my brother on the shoulder once I reach them. "You got this."

Jasper grins. Although, his smile doesn't last long when he looks back over to the side of the river, where he has to go. I don't blame him for being nervous. I would be to if I was going first.

Finn pats him on his arm. "Hey, it's okay to be afraid, Jasper. The trick is not fighting it."

Jasper glances at me, while regripping the vine. "See you on the other side, sis."

I break out in a grin. Unable to control myself, I wrap my arms around his side, simply because I'm finally reunited with him. Jasper chuckles, but wraps his arm around me quickly. I back away, beaming. "Sorry. I don't think I'm completely over the fact that I've finally reunited with my brother."

Finn gently tugs me backwards. Jasper nods at the two of us. He tightly holds on to the vine before running and jumping off of the rocks. I throw my hands up in the air, screaming for joy. His body soars over the river with ease thanks to the vine. His own laughter and yells are heard clearly as he reaches the other side.

Jasper releases the vine a little too soon and ends up falling face first on the ground. The vine swings back to us, but my concern is on Jasper. I jump down from the rocks to watch my brother climb back to his feet. I laugh out of relief beside Octavia and Monty. Finn rushes down to us, grabbing onto the vine.

Jasper throws his arms up, shouting in victory. I jump up and down, happily. All of us shout out in joy, thrilled that this actually worked.

I pat Clarke's shoulder. "That's my brother." I giggle.

Clarke just laughs at me and I even hear a chuckle come from Octavia. Clarke looks back towards Jasper. "You did it, Jasper!"

Finn places his hand on my back about to hand over the vine. "Let's go, Princess. You're up."

I scoff and grab the vine in one hand. "You wish I was your princess."

Clarke gives me a side look, her gaze lingering on Finn. I raise a brow at her. Oh. Got it. She wishes she was Finn's princess.

"Come on, Wren! You got this! Whoo!" Jasper shouts from his side. "Apogee! We did it!" Jasper walks over to something and picking up a rather destroyed sign. He picks it up over his head. "Mount Weather! Whoo!"

I thrust my fist in the arm. "Yes! Way to go, Japse- Ahh!" I immediately release my hold on the vine, hands flying up to cover my mouth in fear. My heart rips in two at the spear that flew out of nowhere and pierced through Jasper's chest, throwing him backwards into a tree. "Jasper!" I scream, eyes filled with tears. "JASPER!"

Finn tugs on my arm. "Come on."

I stay rooted to the ground. "Jasper!" I scream again, deseperate for him to pull the spear out of his chest and say it was all a joke. I need him to be okay. I desperately look around for the vine. I need to get over there. I need to make sure he's okay. I reach out for it, only to have Finn pull me down behind some rocks with everyone else.

"No, I need to get to him." I push up from the ground.

Everyone grabs ahold of me, keeping me down.

"Get down. Get down." Finn holds me down.

My chest heaves up and down from crying. I cup my hand over my mouth to keep myself from screaming. Jasper can't be dead. He can't. I just got him in my life.

The rest of them scan the area to try to figure out where the spear came from. I stare across the river at my twin.

Clarke sets a hand on my arm. "We are not alone."

"We need to go." Finn motions for everyone to run. He pauses, noticing that I'm frozen. "Wren, let's go."

I'm suddenly forced to stand when Finn wraps his arms around my torso. I fight against him, not wanting to leave my brother behind. I will swim across this river and risk being eaten by that snake to get to him. Finn drags me back towards the tree line with everyone else.

"Wren, run!" Clarke grabs ahold of my wrist, forcing me to run with her.

Somehow, my legs are moving on their own, following closely behind everyone else. I keep looking over my shoulder, the image of the spear in Japser's chest plagued in my mind. Octavia pushes on my shoulder to force me to look forward. Tears blur my vision, making me trip several times and if it wasn't for my new friends, I would have fallen many times.

"Jasper." I whisper. My whole body feels as if it was ripped in two. My heart racing a mile a minute, feeling as if it will burst out of my chest at any moment. In my head, I can't stop seeing the spear hit Jasper. It's repeating over and over again.

Up ahead, Monty trips over a root in the ground, landing face first on the ground. Clarke releases her hold on my wrist to run to his side. I lean up against the closest tree, grasping at my chest that feels as if it's on fire, not from running, but because of Jasper.

"Come on!" Finn tries to help Monty back to his feet.

I look over at them and feel my breath get stuck in my throat at the pile of bones in front of them. My legs wobble and I clutch at the tree behind me to stable myself.

"Monty, get up!" Octavia helps lift Monty back up.

I clutch the sides of my head in my hands. This can't be happening. All of this must be a dream. I'm still knocked out on the drop ship and, at any moment, I'm going to wake up to see Finn floating around again.

"Who are they?" Finn's voice brings me back to reality as he stares at the bones.

Clarke bends down to pick up an oddly shaped skull. "What are they?"

"We are so screwed." Octavia states.

I whimper quietly to myself. How are they worried about a pile of bones when Jasper was just speared? I bite down on my bottom lip to keep my chin from quivering because of all of my crying. "W-We have to go back."

Finn glances over at Clarke, like they are having a silent conversation. From the looks on their faces, it looks like they do want to check on Japser, but, at the same time, they think we should get far away from here.

A loud screams echoes throughout the trees. My head snaps up at the scream, instantly recognizing it as Jasper. Without thinking, I push away from the tree I was leaning against and run towards the sound of his voice. "Jasper?!"

"Wren, wait! Wait!" Finn shouts from behind me.

I ignore his voice as I race through the forest, headed it what I assume is the direction of Jasper. Within a matter of minutes, I'm only a few feet away from breaking through the tree line near where we were before.

"Wren!" Finn manages to grab my wrist and yanking me to a stop. I bite down on my cheek to avoid screaming out in pain from the sudden jolt. Finn urges me to crouch down behind some kind of bush. "Stay out of the trees."

I peer through the leaves. My eyes scan the area of where Jasper was hit, only to find him completely gone. "Jasper?" I whisper, nearly inaudibly.

"He was right there." Monty whispers.

"No. Where is he?"

"They took him." Clarke worriedly glances at me.

Finn reacts quickly by covering my mouth with his hands. A muffled scream escapes from my lips. I fall backwards towards the ground, no longer in my crouched position. Everyone shoots me sad looks as I cry harder over the loss of my twin. I just get him in my life and he is taken away so quickly. Who knows who took him? Or what they plan on doing with him?

"I'm so sorry, Wren." Octavia sadly shakes her head.

For once, something amazing happens to me and it's ripped out of my grasp just after a few hours. I was beginning to feel hopeful, knowing that I wasn't completely alone because I finally had my twin in my life. Now, Jasper's gone and I'm all alone again.

XXXX

I really wanted to update again because I am busy this weekend and will have no time. So, I figured I would give you guys a little something. A sad something, but still. It counts.

I feel so bad for Wren, though. She finally sees Jasper and then BAM. He's speared and kidnapped.

I will write the next chapter as soon as I can. May not be until Monday.

Question: How do you think Wren will cope with Jasper being kidnapped when they return back to the drop ship?

So, yeah!
