12- Atom

I gingerly sip out of Bellamy's water container. The three of us had taken a second to take in our surroundings and remember which way was camp. Charlotte said she had a pretty good idea of which way we had to go and walked a little that way to make sure. I had the water back to Bellamy with a hint of a smile.

"Thanks." I say.

Bellamy barely smiles back as he lifts the water to his own lips to take a sip.

"You should know that by the time we get back to camp, I'll probably hate you again." I tell him, kicking a small rock with the toe of my boot.

Bellamy raises an eyebrow. "Why?"

"You're more of an asshole when your friends are around, like you have to show everyone that you're a leader by being the biggest jerk ever. Clearly, you aren't that way because you saved Charlotte last night and you saved me. The girl who is Jasper's twin, the boy who is severly injured and you threaten to kill everyday." I tell him, studying his face to see how he reacts to my observations of him.

He remains silent for a second. Our eyes are locked, almost like we are trying to see who is stronger. Bellamy breaks our eye contact by darting his eyes to the ground. "They're not my friends." He states.

"Yet, you feel the need to show them that you are the leader." I point out.

Bellamy takes a step closer. "I do that to show them that I'm in charge. If being a leader was put in someone else's hands, we'd all be dead within a day."

I square my shoulders back. "What if I was in charge?"

Bellamy's eyes slowly trail down my body and back up. "You couldn't handle it. You're weak." He pokes my upper arm. "You wouldn't stand a chance against those boys. The only thing strong about you is your temper when you're angry."

I narrow my eyes. Everyone assumes I'm weak because I've been locked in a cell for my whole life. They don't know the kind of workouts I put myself through every day. They don't know how strong I actually am.

I glare back at Bellamy, not giving him any warning when I pull my fist back to punch his stupid face. He barely has a chance to duck away. My fists skims past his face by a centimeter. Bellamy's eyes widen when he realizes what I just tried to do, but he's quickly distracted when I go in for another punch.

Bellamy's arm pops up to block my arm. With him distracted on my arm, I kick my foot up to hit him in the stomach. The force has his stumbling backwards. His eyes hold darkness and almost a bit of playfulness as he pops his neck before raising his fist up to fight back. A smirk slides on my face as I do the same thing.

His long index finger motions in the air for me to make the first move. He's trying to predict my first move. By the way I'll move my feet, he'll be able to at least guess what I'm about to do.

Fine. I'll let him think he can predict my moves. Well, my first few anyways. I step closer to him with my fist flying towards him. He effortlessly blocks it. This time, he punches through the air, but I easily block it like he did. Instead of going for his face, I aim for his stomach, which surprises him and I make contact.

I grin, proudly.

Bellamy brings his hands back up into position. My hand slices through the air until his hands wrap around my waist, forcing me to spin. My back slams into his chest. Our chests raise up and down in sync, except his is pressed to my back. I quickly take in the position I'm in to figure out my next move. His arm is pressed tightly to my chest to keep me against him with my movement limited.

I can feel the smooth skin of his arm beneath my fingers. There's no way I am strong enough to flip my over my shoulder. Quickly, I slam the back of my elbow into his stomach. Bellamy groans at the pain, yet his grip on me doesn't loosen. He's expecting me to use my arms.

My left leg moves backwards to wrap around his, just enough to let me throw our balance to the side. The two of us fall to the ground. Bellamy's arm retracts from my body to catch him before he slams into the ground. A gasp of pain escapes from my lips as soon as I slam into the ground on my side.

Ignoring the pain, I push myself up to climb on Bellamy to straddle his waist, except my knee is pressed down against his chest and my hands are on his shoulders to cease any movement. "Still think I'm weak?"

Bellamy struggles to catch his breath. He stares up at me with surprise. Unfortunately, I wasn't prepared for him to grab my waist and flip us over. I yelp out in surpise when my back hits the ground. Before I can stop him, Bellamy grabs my wrists in both hands and pin them down by my head.

"I think you need work." Bellamy answers.

Due to him holding my wrists down, the new position has brought our faces much closer together. The sun shining through the trees is blocked by his head. The grip he has on my wrists is tight, yet not in a way that would hurt me.

"Well, if you piss me off when we're back at camp, I'm sure I'll get my practice in, Sunshine." I smirk.

Bellamy scowls at my nickname for him. "Won't go easy on you, Princess."

"Is that a promise?" I stare up in his dark eyes.

An emotion passes through his eyes that I'm not able to catch quick enough. Before he can answer, a loud, girlish scream fills the air around us. Our heads snap in the direction that it came from.

"Charlotte?" I whisper, worriedly.

Another scream echoes throughout the trees. Bellamy quickly scrambles off of me. I push myself off of the ground to follow him through the trees to where the constant screaming is coming from. I jump over a fallen tree, terrified as to what could be happening to the little girl.

"Charlotte!" I scream, pushing myself to run faster.

Bellamy and I practically fly through the woods to get to her fast enough. Up ahead, I spot Charlotte standing by a tree, staring forward. Bellamy gets to her just a second before I do. He freezes beside her.

I race up to them, setting a worried hand on her. "Charlotte, are you okay?" My eyes scan her body for an injury, but nothing stands out.

Her face is red from crying. That's when I remember she was staring at something. I turn my head to peer at what she was screaming at to see Atom on the ground, completely covered in boils and welts.

"Son of a bitch." Bellamy whispers. He heads towards his friend. "Atom?"

I press down on Charlotte's shoulder for her to stay in place. Slowly, I walk over to Atom's body to see his chest rapidly moving up and down. His eyes are glassed over, like the yellow fog had gotten to his eyes. It must have made him blind. I crouch down beside Bellamy.

Atom struggles to catch a breath as he tries to say something. The two of us lean forward to hear him better. "Kill...Kill me..."

Bellamy's eyes take in Atom's wounds. There's no way we could save him. He's too far gone. Without a second thought, I reach for Atom's boiled hand to hold in mine. His eyes widen like he is trying to figure out who grabbed his hand.

"O-Octavia?" Atom manages to gasp out.

My eyes widen. He thinks I'm Octavia. Bellamy looks from our hands to my face. I open my mouth to say something back, to tell Atom that I'm not her, but I can't bring myself to do it. He's already in so much pain. I don't want to cause anymore to him.

"Yes, I'm here." I try to sound as much like Octavia as I can.

Bellamy gapes at me. I simply shrug my shoulders.

Atom tilts his head back to try to get more air into his lungs. There's a faint smile on his lips, though.

I place my other hand over Atom's chest, softly. "You're gonna be okay." I whisper to him. My chin starts to quiver from the tears that are threatening to spill over.

Bellamy slows stands up and I move closer to Atom. The sound of someone running over to us catches my eye and I see three other people. I weakly smile at the three of them. Charlotte walks over to Bellamy, her eyes on Atom.

Atom starts coughing, angling his head in different directions. His air supply is cutting off on him. I shuffle closer to him on my knees. The hand on his chest moves to his hair, running my fingers through it.

"Shh. Shh. You're okay. Everything's going to be okay." I whisper, still trying to sound like Octavia.

Beside me, Charlotte slides the knife that Bellamy had given to her in his open hand. "Don't be afraid."

Bellamy's jaw clenches as he holds the knife. "Go back to camp." He tells the other kids. "Charlotte, you too." He says after the four of us are left alone.

Without another word, Charlotte backs away from us and heads back to camp.

I continue to stroke Atom's hair as he noticeably becomes a little calmer. "Bell, you've got to do it." I keep my voice low.

Silently, Bellamy stares down at his friend, knife hovering above him. His face is blank, unable to show any of the emotion he is feeling right now. I study his face for a little longer to see it full of hesitation and him nearly in tears. He's not going to be able to do it.

A dead leaf crackles behind us, like someone stepped on it. Clarke walks around to the other side of Atom. Although Atom is a bit calmer, his head keeps moving around in pain.

"I heard screams." Clarke states. She looks over his wounds.

"Charlotte found him." Bellamy speaks up. "I sent her back to camp."

Atom gasps out in pain.

"It's alright. I'm here." I tell him.

Clarke glances between the two of us, noticing that I sound more like Octavia then myself. I shrug my shoulders. There was nothing else to do. She looks at his wounds a little closer this time before shaking her head. She can't save him.

Bellamy visibily swallows as his jaw clenches. He nods, understanding.

Clarke takes a deep breath, trying to fight off the tears. She moves closer to Atom. "Okay, I'm going to help you. Alright?" She nods at me to keep running my fingers through Atom's hair. Clarke reaches for the knife in Bellamy's hand while humming.

With the knife in hand, Clarke angles it to point directly at Atom's neck. She pierces Atom's neck, while still humming, and gently forces the knife all the way in. Once deep enough, she pulls it back out to let the blood in Atom to bleed out and to choke him. Her humming never stops. Atom chokes for a second before his eyes shut. Altogether, his gasping and pain stop.

I blink my eyes a few times when they become blurry. Clarke just did something that Bellamy and I couldn't do. Even knowing Atom's dead, I keep running my fingers through his hair. He died thinking that Octavia was by his side.

"I told you that you would be okay." I whisper to Atom's dead body. A single tear builds over and slides down my cheek. I didn't really know him that well, but I'm not heartless to not cry over someone dying.

I slowly remove my hand from Atom's hair. That's when I notice that my other hand is resting beside Atom's arm, tangled with Bellamy's. From Clarke's angle, they are hidden, but for us, we can easily see them. His hand is tightly holding on to mine, like this was all he needed to keep in control of his emotions. I don't know if I was the one to reach for his hand or if he did it. Maybe we did it at the same time.

I squeeze his hand in a comforting manner. From our hands to Clarke, I watch as she continues to hum to Atom. Maybe Bellamy and I shouldn't be the leader. What if Clarke is the better leader?

Finn and Wells ended up meeting with us at Atom's body. The three kids that had run up to us before had returned with a makeshift gurney for Atom's body. That made it easier to bring his body back to camp for a proper burial.

Finn and Clarke were ahead of me by a few feet, discussing about how they needed to get back to Japser. Bellamy was behind me, dragging part of the gurney into the camp with a jacket over Atom's face. We were both worried about what Octavia would say when she saw him.

Nighttime had fallen at camp by the time we had made it back. Many eye the gurney, trying to figure out who it could be and what happened to them. I need to see Jasper. After just losing Atom, I am so scared to lose Jasper now.

"Get Clarke whatever she needs." Bellamy tells a girl that passes by.

Wells walks up to the two of us. "I better go get this grave dug." He whispers.

Bellamy nods at him.

Octavia rushes out of the dropship when she sees that we have arrived back. She approaches Clarke. "It's about time. They're gonna kill Jasper." Octavia looks back towards the drop ship. "Did you get the medicine?"

I stand frozen in place, hoping to help block the gurney from Octavia's view.

Clarke nods. "Yeah, I- I got it." She urges Octavia back to the dropship. "Come on. Let's go talk."

Octavia catches sight of the gurney. She spins back around, trying to see around me. By now, a circle had formed around the fire and where the gurney was laying on the ground. She pushes past Clarke and runs to us.

"Octavia," Bellamy grabs his sister's shoulders before she can get to close. "Just- Just stay there, please."

I take another step back closer to Atom.

"Why?" Octavia tries to get past him.

"Just stay back." He tries to push her away.

"Stop!" Octavia pushes past him. The look in her eyes shows that she already has a guess of who is under the jacket.

I hold my hands out in front of her. "Octavia, you don't need to see this."

Octavia's eys fill with tears when she sees the dry blood coated on my hands. She slams her shoulder into mine. I shut my eyes for a second. This isn't going to end well. Octavia crouches down beside Atom. Slowly, she pulls the jacket off of his face.

"Atom?" She nearly inaudibly gasps.

"There's nothing I could do." Bellamy tries to explain.

Octavia holds a hand up. "Don't!" She cries. She recovers Atom's face with the jacket.

"Octavia-" I start to say, but immediately cut myself off when she shoots a murderous glare at me. I even take a step back.

She climbs to her feet, angrily.

"Oc- Oct- please." Bellamy moves towards her.

She roughly pushes past him, leaving. "Don't."

Ignoring the stares of the rest of the camp, my hands shakily rise up to the level of my chest. Atom's blood coats them in certain places. This must look so bad in Octavia's eyes. I let my hands drop back down to my sides. Murphy walks up to Bellamy.

"Lose anyone here?" Bellamy asks.

"No."

I walk up to the two of them. "Jasper?"

Murphy smirks at me. "Still breathing. Barely. I tried to take him out, but-"

Before Murphy has a chance to finish his sentence, my fist collides into his cheek. Murphy hisses in pain while cupping his cheek. Bellamy grabs my arm before I can punch him again and pushes me behind him slightly. Angrily, I glare at Bellamy. He shakes his head once.

Murphy drops his hand to shoot daggers at me with his eyes. If Bellamy wasn't standing in front of me, I bet Murphy would have tried to punch me back. "But, your psycho little sister-" Murphy tries to go back to what he was saying.

As if my angry has transferred to Bellamy, he grabs ahold of Murphy's jacket to shove him backwards.

Murphy tries to swat his hands away. "Bellamy..."

Bellamy manages to grab the front of Murphy's collar on his jacket to hold him close to his face. "My what? My what?"

Murphy remains calm, while glancing at Bellamy's hands on him. "Your little sister." He shoves Bellamy off.

"Yeah, that's right. My little sister. Got anything else you want to say about her?" Bellamy remains a scary calm.

Murphy studies his face before replying, "Nothing. Sorry."

Bellamy sizes Murhpy up before taking a step back. He motions to Jones. "Get him out of here." He nods towards the gurney. With one last look at Murphy, Bellamy heads towards the drop ship.

A few of the guys pick up the gurney to take the body away. I remain planted in the spot that Bellamy had pushed me in. We had a very odd friendship going on. I don't even know if I would call it that. My attention is torn away from the direction Bellamy went to Murphy, who is already glaring at me. A knife is held in his hands.

My eyes dart from the knife to Murphy's face. Does he plan on attacking me? I jump in surprise when Murphy throws the knife at a nearby tree and it sticks this time. Murphy smirks as he walks away.

XXXXXXXX

I really wanted to update this again. So, here you guys go. I really love Wren. Not to mention this odd friendship she has going on with Bellamy. It's definitely interesting.

That fight scene though. I thought that would be cool to have. She shows that she's not as weak as everyone makes her seem to be.

Next chapter will be of Jasper waking up. I was going to add it to this chapter, but this one is already so long. I'll just do it in the next one. Also, didn't want to take away that intense ending.

Can anyone else feel that sexual tension?

Question: What would you call Wren and Bellamy? Is it a friendship? The beginning of a friendship?

So, yeah!
