26 - Unity Day
"Bellamy!" I tripped over someone's foot and start to fall toward the ground.
Bellamy's hands hastily grasp onto my arms and waist, saving myself from a tumble to the ground. His arms securely lock around my waist and back, holding my body close to his while trying to examine my face. "Are you drunk?"
I giggle hysterically into my hand. My right hand snakes around his neck to help keep me steady on my feet. I hum in response before saying, "Mm, maybe?" I hold up my left hand, trying to count how many drinks I had. "Um, one, two, three-- or was it four?"
Bellamy mumbles something under his breath.
I tap his chest. "I don't know now." Another giggle floats past my lips and I swivel around in his tight hold. "I asked Jasper to get me some water after the whole speech thing that Jaha did, but--" I tap his chest again. "You know, all the Unity Day bullshit, blah blah blah..."
The first Exodus ship was going to be sent down in less than sixty hours and, with today being Unity Day on the Ark, everyone here is throwing a party. Jasper made his moonshine and that's when the party really began.
I wrap my other hand around Bellamy's neck, resting the side of my head on his chest. "I don't--" I shake my head. "I don't think it was water."
"It definitely wasn't water." Bellamy adjusts his hold on me.
I tilt my back and spread my arms out to my sides, fully aware that Bellamy won't let me fall. "I feel so good, Bell." I stare up at the night sky.
Clarke hesitantly walks up to the two of us. I smile at her from upside down. The feel of Bellamy's hands overlapping his arms to tightly hold onto me better. His fingers digging into my sides.
"Um, hey." Clarke eyes me in his arms with a baffled look. "Having a good time, Wren?"
I giggle and lean forward to straighten back up with Bellamy's help. "Such a good time, C-Clarke!" I pat her face twice. "Have you had Jasper's moonshine? I think- I think--" I stop myself when I see a smile on Bellamy's face. I poke the corner of his lips. "Oh, my God! Someone grab a camera, Bellamy Blake is smiling!"
Clarke bursts out laughing at my drunken state. "Wow. She is an interesting drunk." She turns her attention back on Bellamy. "The comms are still dead. They cut out during the pageant."
"Am I drunk?" My face scrunches up as I try to determine if I am or not. "I've never been drunk before."
Bellamy's fingers dig in my skin through my shirt and jacket more. He looks from me to Clarke. "Best Unity Day ever."
"Do you really think now is a good time to be having a party? I mean, the Grounder is out there." Clarke tells him. She motions to the wild version of me in his arms. "Just look at Wren, for instance."
I laugh while spinning around in Bellamy's hold, my back to his chest. "Yes, look at me!" I hold my arms out in a ta-da pose. "I feel so great."
"Grounders." Bellamy corrects her with his eyes still trained on me. "By now, he's made it home. He's probably putting together a lynch mob."
I lean back against his chest once I realize he doesn't plan on letting me go anytime soon. My arms fold over his without a second thought.
"Relax." Bellamy responds to Clarke's worried expression. He nods his head toward the wall. "I got security covered. Why don't you go get a drink? You look like you could use one."
I raise my hand in the air. "If anyone could use one, it's me." I slur my words and begin to sway from side to side in Bellamy's hold. I hold up four fingers, tapping each one as I say, "One drink for my parents, one for Dax, one for the probability of Grounders killing us, one for the hell of it, and one for having to deal with Bellamy."
"You've had five drinks?" Clarke asks, appalled.
I shake my head, holding up four fingers. "No, I had four."
"You just said five."
I give her a doubting look. "No, I didn't. That would make me so wasted." I flick my hair over my shoulder. "I am totally sober right now."
Bellamy raises a hand in the air. "Just let it go."
"Right," Clarke eyes me. "I think I need a drink just from talking to her. Maybe more than one."
"Then have more than one. Clarke, the Exodus ship carrying your mother comes down here in two days. After that, the party's over."
"No," I pout at Bellamy's words. "I like the party."
Bellamy ignores me, "Have some fun while you still can. You deserve it."
"Oh, my God, yes!" I force my way out of Bellamy's arms and rest my hand on Clarke's shoulder. "Let's go get some moonshine. You're gonna love it- Oh!"
"You're not going anywhere, Princess." Bellamy grabs me from behind again, bringing me back against his chest. His arms wound around my torso tighter, my back pressing up against his chest. "I think you've had enough to drink."
"What-- No!" I shake my head, attempting to pry his fingers off of my body. "I'm thirsty."
"I'll get you some water."
"Good luck with your babysitting." Clarke laughs and walks back toward the party.
I whine in his hold. "Bell, one more cup, I promise." My words nearly mix together.
"No," Bellamy spins me around in his arms.
My eyes fall to his arms wrapped around me. I slap them a few times. "Hey, I can stand on my own, okay? I don't even feel that moonshine." To show that I don't need his help, I pinch his arms until they fall from my waist. I spread my arms out wide, stepping away from him. "See? Totally fine."
A couple of guys pass by me with their own makeshift cups in hands. One of them accidentally bumps into me. Bellamy steps forward to grab onto me until I throw a hand up to stop him.
"I'm good." I reach out to grab part of a nearby tent when I start to sway on my feet. I stumble over my own feet and giggle when he catches me again. I allow him to keep me on steady on my feet, leaning most of my weight against him. I tilt my head back to see his face better. "Can I ask you a question?"
"I have a feeling you're going to ask me even if I do say no."
I throw my head back in laughter. I pat his chest twice before looking back at his amused face. My eyes try to narrow in concentration. "Why did you kiss me?"
The smile on his face disappears at my question. "Wren--" Bellamy immediately attempts to dismiss the question.
I grab his face between my hands, forcing him to look at me. "Bellamy," I struggle not to burst into laughter while trying to keep a straight face. I remove my hands. "I have theories..."
"You have theories?"
I hum in response. "One," I hold up two fingers.
A chuckle pass through his lips. One of his arms leave my waist to press my middle finger down. "There."
"What would I do without you?" I laugh and press my forehead to his chest for a second.
Bellamy's arm returns to waist. He half shakes his head, trying not to laugh at how ridiculous I am while drunk. "At this moment, I really don't know what you would do."
"Anyways, number one is that you were trying to manipulate me somehow because you are Bellamy Blake." I hold up my finger in the air. "Number two is that you actually have feelings for me, so that's obviously not true, but let's make a deal, okay? I'll tell you my own secret if you tell me why you kissed me."
"You should probably drink some water--" Bellamy tries to avoid answering anything. His cheek flares and he looks away from me.
My eyes widen and I probably would have fallen backwards from looking back at him if he didn't have his arms around me. "Oh, my God. Did I actually break Bellamy Blake?" My jaw falls slack. "You have feelings for me."
His dark eyes fly up and his jaw clenches. The impossible has actually happened. That's why he kissed me. It wasn't for him to gain the upper hand.
"Bellamy?" I whisper.
"Yes, okay. Is that what you wanted to hear?"
My mouth nearly falls slack. Bellamy Blake actually has feelings for me.
I poke his chest. "Do you want to hear my secret now? Doesn't matter because I'm going to tell you anyways." I repeatedly poke him until he looks down at me. "The reason I came over here is because I knew you would keep me safe after all the drinks I had."
Monty walks near us, holding his own cup and drinking out of it.
"Monty!" I throw my hands up in the air, excitedly. I stumble over to where he is walking. Bellamy seemed too surprised by what just happened to keep a tight grip on me. "Can I have some of that?" I eagerly point to his moonshine.
"Oh, sure--" Monty starts to hand it over.
My body is suddenly pulled backwards by the arms returning to my waist. A groan flies off of my lips. "Bellamy!" I whine again. "You're killing me right now."
"She's cut off." Bellamy tells Monty. He spins the two of us around, helping me walk away from Monty.
I peer up, sticking my bottom lip out in a pout. My finger pokes Bellamy's cheek. "Just one more--"
Clarke returns back to us. "Hey, I need to talk to you." She raises a brow at my demeanor. "Finn's set up a meeting with the Grounders. I'm leaving to go talk to them.
Bellamy instantly snaps into business mode, despite holding me to his chest to keep me from wandering away or falling over. "Because you think that impaling people on spears is code for 'let's be friends'? Have you lost your damn mind?"
"I think it might be worth a shot." Clarke half shrugs. "I mean, we do have to live with these people."
Bellamy shakes his head, shifting his hands on my waist. "They'll probably gut you, string you up as a warning."
"Well, that's why I'm here. I need you to follow us, be our backup."
"Does Finn know about this?"
"Finn doesn't need to know," Clarke replies. "And, Bellamy, bring guns."
Bellamy watches as she walks away. "Alright, Princess, time to get you to bed." He waves at one of his friends. "Miller!" He waits until Miller reaches us. "Make sure Wren gets to her tent and don't let her leave it. She's had too much to drink."
I frown as he tries to hand me over to Miller. "What? No, I want to come with you." I try to shove Miller's hands off of me. "Bellamy!" I yell when he walks off to one of the tents. I chase after him, ignoring Miller. I duck inside of the tent that Bellamy went into.
Raven stands by the table, where she has been working on making ammo for the guns all day. Jasper and Bellamy stand beside her. Ammo lays all over the table with lights to illuminate her work.
"Jasper, you're coming with me." Bellamy hands a gun over to him, unaware that I followed him into the tent.
"I am?" Jasper asks, surprised.
"You handled yourself well in the cave with the Grounder." Bellamy reaches for some of the bullets.
Jasper steps out of the way, rubbing his forehead. "I mean, I hit him in the head."
Raven throws a hand out to stop Bellamy. "If you're planning on shooting anything, you better think twice. I haven't check those yet."
"Give me some bullets that work."
"Wren, let's go." Miller storms into the tent.
Bellamy spins around, sighing in frustration when he notices that I followed him. He waves his hand in my direction. "Wren, you're not coming with. You're drunk."
Jasper scoffs, "No, she's not."
I press my lips together.
"She refused every drink that I offered to her. She never even had a sip." Jasper sets his arm around my shoulder. My brother glances back and forth between us.
Bellamy's head turns in my direction, almost in slow motion. His dark eyes narrow and he sharply inhales. I nervously swallow. This is not how I wanted this night to go. Now, Bellamy knows that I pretended to be drunk just to get him to say why he kissed me. I knew that if I asked him in general, he would never have told me. If Bellamy knew that I was drunk, there would be a chance that I wouldn't remember anything the next day.
I was right. He told me just like I knew he would. It was beginning to eat me away on the inside. I wanted to know why he kissed me the other day.
"I can prove it." I march over to the table and snatch up a knife someone made earlier. I throw it across the tent. The knife flies through the air, spinning and sticks in a block of wood on another table. "I'm not drunk, Bellamy."
Bellamy clenches his jaw. His eyes are darker than normal and I know he's probably drilling me with questions in his mind. That whole act before was completely fake. I haven't even had a sip of the moonshine. I just needed Bellamy to believe that I was drunk.
Raven folds her arms over her chest. "What do you need them for?" She pulls the attention back onto the ammo.
"Your boyfriend's being an idiot." Bellamy answers without taking his eyes off of me.
She grabs a stack of ammo and presses it against his chest. "I'm coming with you."
"We should get Clarke," Jasper remarked.
I glance at Raven, not wanting to be the one to tell her that Clarke is the one with Finn.
Raven sighs, "Clarke's with Finn, isn't she?"
I storm out of the tent before Bellamy can catch me. "We need to get going."
XXXX
Who actually believed that Wren was drunk? Did she play a good drunk?
Her plan was straight evil and genius at the same time. I actually loved writing this chapter. Unfortunately, Bellamy knows that she was just acting drunk this whole time.
Question: What do you think will happen now that Bellamy knows that she only pretended to be drunk to find out why he kissed her?
So, yeah!
