30 - Cure

The cloth material is pressed over my nose and mouth. I watch as Clarke checks Octavia for any signs of the virus that is quickly taking over the camp. For a brief second, I felt Bellamy's gaze linger on me before he looked back to his sister.

"Okay," Clarke lowers the light from where she was shining it into Octavia's opened mouth. "We're done."

Octavia steps back from her, sticking her tongue back in her mouth. I stand beside her, patiently waiting to see what else Clarke had to say. More people were growing sick and we told everyone who suddenly developed any symptoms to go to the dropship. Luckily, everyone has been listening to us.

"No visible signs of swelling or bleeding." Clarke weakly leans against the ladder behind her. Exhaustion was taking over her body.

Bellamy lowers the cloth from his mouth, clutching it in his hand. "So, you're saying she doesn't have it?"

"I'm saying she doesn't have symptoms, but that could change. We need to keep her here, just in case." Clarke says.

"No way. Look at this place." Bellamy motions to everyone sick in the dropship. "She'll get sick just being here."

"Why do I have to stay and Wren doesn't?" Octavia demands. slightly aggravated.

I lower the cloth to speak. "I didn't touch Murphy."

Clarke peers at Bellamy, who seems to be against the idea of it all. "Do you want to stop the spread or not? Look. I'll keep her on the third level with the people who aren't symptomatic yet."

"Think of it as a way to stop her from sneaking out again." I tell him, silently hating myself for throwing Octavia under the bus like that.

Octavia gawks at me, with a look of betrayal on her face. "Screw you, Wren."

I remain quiet. There was a plan brewing in my mind and I needed Octavia to be told to stay in here to make it work. With Bellamy separated from her, she would have the chance to sneak out of camp without him being aware of it.

"I'll let you know if her condition changes." Clarke promises him.

Bellamy remains silent and walks out of the dropship without looking back. I watch the curtain move back into place before looking back to Octavia. She's seconds away from climbing up the ladder to go to the third level.

"Octavia, wait--" Clarke and I said in unison. The two of us share a look, realizing that we were planning the same thing. Both of us want her to sneak out of camp to see if Lincoln has a cure.

I nod at Clarke, silently telling her that she can be the one to tell Octavia. My feet carry me out of the dropship and I tuck the cloth into my back pocket. The rest of the camp are still doing their shifts.

My eyes drift over the group of people on the guard of the wall. They stop on the back of Jasper's head. He is in a conversation with Harper, both seemingly to be in better moods than how they were earlier. Maybe he apologized for being an ass.

Two guys carry the last body out of the dropship. They carefully set the body on the ground with Derek's, right outside of the dropship. Not even an hour has passed since Clarke issued the quarantine and two people have already died.

If there is a cure, we were not aware of it yet, considering that Octavia has not returned from her secret trip to Lincoln. He was the only one that could potentially help us. We have no idea how long this virus is supposed to last for. We just need answers.

"All right," Bellamy's loud voice broke through the silence of the camp. Everyone had stopped what they were doing to watch the bodies be carried out. "Show is over. Get back to your posts."

I stroll closer to the dropship, making sure to keep a safe distance. I lock eyes with Clarke, who had stepped out and stood on the door. "Do you have enough food and water in there?"

Clarke nods, "Yeah. Some medicine might be nice."

I exhale through my nose in a slight chuckle. "I'll see what I can find out there." I joke, motioning to the woods.

"Octavia, you okay?" Bellamy walks a couple of feet ahead of me.

My eyes widen at his question. We were hoping that Bellamy wouldn't try to contact his sister. She sneaked out of camp without being spotted by anyone. Clarke and I definitely did not want to be the ones to tell Bellamy that his little sister went to see Lincoln.

"She's not here, Bellamy." I speak up before he can march inside of the dropship.

Bellamy angles his body to look at me behind him. He looks between Clarke and I, waiting for one of us to start talking.

I heave a sigh, "She went to see Lincoln. If there's a cure, he'll have it."

Everyone knew that Bellamy didn't like Lincoln. No one at camp, aside from Octavia and me, really liked him. Everyone saw him as a Grounder, which made him the enemy. Bellamy hatred toward him grew stronger when he learned that Octavia has a strong relationship with him.

"We didn't tell you because we knew you wouldn't let her go." Clarke explains to him.

Bellamy's jaw clenches in anger. "If anything happens to her, you two and me are gonna have problems."

"We already have problems." I mumble under my breath.

He must have heard my comment because he glares at me while passing by. I tilt my head back, quietly groaning. Clarke and I understood that Bellamy wouldn't be okay with us sending Octavia out of camp. That's why we didn't want to tell him. If he hadn't called for her, we wouldn't have had to tell him.

"-- nobody touch him!"

I whirl around, curious to know what all of the sudden commotion is about. One of the guys has blood running out of their eyes, which sent everyone around him in a total panic. A few people point their guns at the kid.

"Get to the dropship now." Bellamy orders him.

"Put your guns down!" I storm up to the few guys with their guns trained on the guy.

The absolute last thing we need was for everyone to panic. Bellamy and I have been working on keeping that from happening. The group lowers their guns.

"Hey, are you okay?" Raven asks a dark haired girl, who looks gravely ill.

As soon as the words leave Raven's mouth, the girl's legs turn to jelly beneath her and she tumbles to the ground, until a guy catches her. The girl coughs up blood, spewing the red liquid all over a couple of guys. Within seconds, everyone falls into a full blown panic.

"Oh, my God!" One of the guy's complain, attempting to wipe the blood off of their faces.

"Oh, my God, it's on me!"

The guys that were coughed on walk around with their hands in front of them. Everyone else around them backs away and others point the barrel of their guns at them. This just got really bad. People were shouting for them to get back and away from them.

Bellamy moves around, shouting, "Calm down!"

Finn throws himself in the middle of all of it. "Put that gun down! Put that gun down! Put it down!"

Acting quickly, I grab the assault rifle from my brother's hands and point the barrel to the sky, pressing down on the trigger. A single gunshot goes off and that's all I need for everyone to stop the commotion. Everyone turns to look at me, with my brother's gun in my hands.

I step out in the middle of the large circle. "This is exactly what the Grounders want." I twist around in a small circle to look at everyone in the camp. All of their eyes were trained on me. "Don't you see that? They don't have to kill us if we kill each other first."

Felix steps out of the crowd and points his gun toward me. "They won't have to kill us if we all catch the virus."

I raise a brow, taken aback that he thought pointing his gun at me was a good idea. He would never wave his gun in the air at Bellamy, so why would he think it would be smart to do so with me. Surprisingly, I'm not intimidated.

"You should be in the dropship with the rest of them. You were there when they found Murphy." Felix shouts. He peeks over his shoulder, like he is waiting for others to back him up. Unfortunately for him, no one does.

Bellamy grabs part of Felix's gun and slams the butt of the gun in his face. He easily disarms him, while Felix stumbles toward the ground, unsteady from being hit.

"Congratulations, Felix, you just lost your gun privileges." I announce, loud enough for the whole camp to hear. "You're no longer a guard."

Everyone else who still has their gun in their hands, back away from where I stand and let their guns hang down at the ground. No one else wants to lose their job. If they didn't think I was being serious before, everyone knows now.

"Not to state the obvious," Bellamy glances at Clarke and I. "But your quarantine isn't working."

Before I could respond, Clarke's legs give out from under her and she would have collapsed to the ground if Finn hadn't caught her in his arms.

"Finn, don't touch her!" Raven shouts. Her face falls when she sees Finn ignore her.

Clarke loosely wraps one arm around Finn's shoulders, a dazed look in her eyes from the virus. "Hey, let me go. I'm okay."

"No, you're not." Finn responds.

Clarke's head rolls around as she fights consciousness. Her eyes drifting shut every few seconds. The virus was going making her get worse. "Octavia will come back with a cure." Clarke struggles to say the words.

"There is no cure!"

Bellamy and I spin around at the sound of Octavia's face. She stops jogging and stands a few feet away from us. Her eyes darting to Clarke being held in Finn's arms. What the hell are we supposed to do if there's no cure?

"But the Grounders don't use the sickness to kill." Octavia looks around the camp. She could see how many people have grown ill since she's been gone.

"Really? Tell that to them." Bellamy points to the two bodies on the ground near the dropship.

Octavia sighs and shuts her eyes for a brief second, taking in the fact that we've lost two people already. This wasn't something that we could ignore and continue on with preparing for the Grounders to strike camp. We have to figure out how to make the sick better or there's a chance everyone will die.

Bellamy steps toward his sister. "I warned you about seeing that Grounder again."

"Yeah?" Octavia responds with a small glare. "Well, I have a warning for you, too. The Grounders are coming..."

Murmurs and voices of worry fill the air. We knew the Grounders would strike soon. No one would have thought that it would be this soon.

"And they're attacking at first light."

XXXX

I wrote most of this chapter was written at two this morning. I just finished the rest of it. I'm excited that this season is almost over because that means season two. Of course, I won't start season two right away.

A lot of people are getting sick. Let's hope that Wren doesn't.

The Grounders are coming.

Question: Do you think Wren will get sick?

So, yeah!
