{Chapter Four}
The next day seemed to come quickly for Hera as she found herself sitting in Transfiguration class. Professor McGonagall was in the form of a cat as she sat on top of her desk, watching the class with catty eyes.
Hera scribbled notes onto her parchment with graceful hand gestures. She had been taught by her Aunt Narcissa that graceful movements of the hand prevent the aching of hand muscles. That, and of course the fact Narcissa believed that Hera had every right to be taught to live in the most ladylike way possible.
The chamber's doors were pushed open and two figures came rushing in. The familliar circular glasses and the unmissable red hair did not go unnoticed by Hera. Like everyone else, she turned to look at the two boys, Harry Potter and Ronald Weasley.
She pursed her lips, feeling embarrassed for the duo while she listened to Professor McGonagall reprimanding the two boys for being late to her class.
"Perhaps if I were to transfigure Mr Potter and yourself into a pocket watch," She said sternly. "That way, one of you might be on time."
"W-We got lost." Stuttered Harry.
"Then perhaps a map? I trust you don't need one to find your seats?" She ended the conversation by walking back to her desk as the duo did the same.
The next class was Potions, she had read her textbook ahead of time. She had a certain feeling that Potions would be interesting. She was sat next to her new found friend, Blaise Zabini.
Professor Snape stormed into the room with his cloak flapping behind him like a flag in the wind. He marched up straight to the front of the chamber with a stern look upon his face. Nothing about him seemed friendly or warm. He had a hooked nose, long face and black hair that reached below his jawline.
"There will be no foolish wand-waving or silly incantations in this. As such, I do not expect many if you to appreciate the subtle science of and exact art of this potion-making. However, for those... select few," His beady black eyes looked to the Slytherins. "Who possess the predisposition. I can teach you how to bewitch the mind and ensnare the senses. I can tell you how to bottle fame, brew glory and even put a stopper in death."
He looked towards a certain black-haired boy who was certainly not paying attention. "Mr Potter!" He finally caught Harry's attention. The startled boy looked at him a placed his quill back into the inkpot. "What would I get if I added powdered root of asphodel to an infusion of wormwood?
Hermione's hand shot up into the air as he sat beside her confused. Hera wanted to raise her hand as she knew the answer but kept her hand on her lap. She watched Professor Snaps ask Harry Potter more potions-related questions Harry answered with either a shrug, a shake of the head or a simple, 'I don't know sir.'
Snape tutted, his natural sneer became deeper as he looked at the boy who lived. "Clearly fame isn't everything, Mr Potter."
Later on that day, Hera found herself in the Great Hall, dedicating her time to her Potions textbook. As she mouthed every ingredient to a potion, Blaise would dart his eyes to her. "Hera." He called.
Hera's nose was deep into the book. "Hera." He called again, tapping her shoulder. She didn't seem to notice him.
BOOM!
Hera jumped in her seat as her new textbook flew into the air, smacking Pansy Parkinson right at the back of her head. Hera's eyes bulged out of their sockets as Pansy turned around with a deadly glare on her face.
"Pansy, I am so sorry! I didn't --" "Shut your mouth Azkaban!"
Pansy was just about to prance on her when the owls came in, swooping from every direction. Hera let out a sigh of relief as packages were dropped onto the Slytherin table. Blaise looked at Hera, "I tried getting your attention Hera. If you actually listened to me, you wouldn't have been in deep waters with Pansy."
"Well next time, shout my name if you have to." Hera got up and walked around the table just to get her text book. Blaise trailed behind her, "I did. Multiple times." Hera dusted the dirt off of her book and turned to face the boy. "Have you tried nudging, tapping or shaking me?"
Blaise scratched the back of his head, "No? Was I supposed to?" He asked.
"Yes!"
Later that day, the first year Slytherins had flying lessons with the Gryffindors. Blaise was exceptionally excited, rambling about how he loves quidditch and everything above that topic.
Hera, on the other hand, was nervous. Her hands were clammy and stomach felt as of she had something tickling the inside of it. Draco started boasting about how 'well' he could fly on a broomstick. Hera knew it was a lie as she had rolled her eyes, making her forget her uneasiness for a split moment.
Hera looked at Blaise with a nervous look. "Are you okay Hera?" Blaise asked her. "You look a bit... sick?"
Hera shook her head and pointed to the broomsticks then to the sky, adding a shake of her head. Blaise came to a sudden realisation that his newfound friend was scared of heights.
A woman with short white hair and yellow eyes like a hawk, stood in front of the first years. "Good afternoon class." She said with a strong voice.
"Good afternoon Madam Hooch." The first years greeted the woman back. She walked a line between the students that stood beside the school broomsticks. "Welcome to your first flying lesson. Well, what are you waiting for? Everyone step up to the left side of your broomstick and say 'Up!'"
A chorus of 'Up's was sounded. Harry Potter's broomstick flew straight into his hand. Hera looked down to her broomstick saying 'up' softly. The broomstick barely moved. Draco repeated the word a few times before Madame Hooch came over and told him that he had been doing it wrong. A few 'up's later, Draco had his broomstick in his hand.
"Say it with feeling!" Exclaimed Madame Hooch.
Hera looked down on her broomstick and said 'Up' more firmly. The broomstick went straight into her hand and she smiled in glee. Blaise fist-pumped the air as he held his own broomstick.
Once everyone had their broomstick in hand, Madame Hooch turned to the class. " Now, once you've got hold of your broom, I want you to mount it. And grip it tight, you don't want to be sliding off the end."
Everyone mounts their broom and Hera inhaled oxygen as she mounted her broomstick.
"When I blow my whistle, I want each of you to kick off from the ground, hard. Keep your broom steady, hover for a moment, and then lean forward slightly and touch back down. On my whistle three - two -" Madame Pooch blows her whistle and Neville is the first to go up in the air. Her hawk-like eyes go wide and shouts for Neville to get back to the ground. He begins to fly away, clearly not knowing how to control the broom. A frightened look was plastered on his face.
"Help!" He shouted, holding tightly onto the broomstick.
"Mr Longbottom!" Madame Hooch shouted after his as he soared up high, flying around the courtyard. He screamed as he clutched tightly on the broomstick. He went through the arch way and higher up, over the wall.
He zooms past a statue with a sharp spear. Neville's cloak catches on it. He is flipped off the broom and hangs on the tip of the sharp spear. Hera gasps in shock as the he hangs dangerously high up in the air.
Neville shouts for help but there was nothing anyone could have done. He wavered before his cloak ripped, and he fell catching on a torch. He slipped out of his coat and fell to the ground.
There was sickening crack and Madame Hooch ran over to the injured boy. Hera watched on curious. "I hope that doesn't happen to me." She muttered, looking at Neville.
Blaise shook his head quietly, "Only if you listen to instructions, you wouldn't end up like Neville at all."
Draco picks up Neville's Remembrall as Madame Hooch helps Neville up to his feet. She walked past Hera and Blaise as they curiously watched the situation draw to a close. "Everyone's to keep their feet firmly on the ground while I take Mr. Longbottom to the hospital wing. Understand? If I see a single broom in the air, the one riding it will find themselves out of Hogwarts before they can say, Quidditch."
As soon as Madame Hooch was out of sight Draco snickers. "Did you see his face? Maybe if the fat lump had given this a squeeze, he'd have remembered to fall on his fat arse." Draco held up the Remembrall for all to see.
Hera's eyes went wide as she saw Draco hold up the Remembrall. She was about to open her mouth but Harry beat her to it. "Give it here Malfoy."
Draco smirks and throws it in the air before catching it again. " No. I think I'll leave it somewhere for Longbottom to find." He got on a broomstick and flew away.
Harry moved to get on a broomstick but was stopped by the bushy haired girl from the day before.
"Harry, no! You heard what Madam Hooch said. Besides, you don't even know how to fly." Harry didn't even spare her a second look and flew into the air. She crossed her arms and said. "What an idiot."
