Chapter 8

Ezra's POV

As the stars surrounding the ship blurred and Lothal disappeared from view, I entered the cockpit to see Han and Chewbacca talking quietly.  Their conversation immediately stopped as soon as they heard me enter.

"So, you are a Jedi?" Han asked me.

"No.  I was never inducted into the Order.  I am simply a Light side user," I replied.  Han nodded, trying to think of another way to end the awkward tension between us.

"How long do you think this is going to take?" Han asked after a few moments.

"It depends on how Luke takes everything in.  Plus, there are still a lot of Imperial supporters in the galaxy.  They might prove to be trouble since Luke has been credited across the galaxy for the fall of the Empire," I explained.

"And if there are any Imperials in our way, Chewie and I will blow them right up," Han chuckled.

"Do not be so confident," I warned the pilot.  "Not everything is that easy."

"Whatever you say, kid," Han sighed.

"Argh!" Chewie exclaimed.

"We should be coming up on Ilum soon.  The planet is not that far from Lothal," Han said in an attempt to change the subject.

"Good.  I would much rather get this job done quickly.  I do not want to stay on the planet any longer than we have to," I said.

"Why?" Han asked.

"It is cold," I said jokingly.  Truth was I just did not want to be pestered by Force ghosts the whole time.

"You are crazy, you know that?" Han asked incredulously.

"I have been told," I said.

Han was about to continue, but before he could say a word, the control console started beeping rapidly.  Han and Chewie quickly jumped into action, pressing buttons and yelling commands at each other.

"What has happened?" I demanded, rushing to stand behind Han.

"Something is pulling us out of hyperspace!  But that isn't possible!  That kind of technology does not exist!" Han shouted.

"Karabast!" I exclaimed, slamming my fist onto the back of Han's seat.  I knew exactly what was pulling us out of hyperspace.  My mind immediately reflected back on the gravity wells the Empire had developed a few years earlier.  They had been testing out the ship when the Empire abducted a Rebellion ship.  I have gone with Commander Sato to investigate and had ended up getting captured.  Luckily, Kanan and Rex, a former trooper from the Clone Wars, had saved us.  Chopper and I had managed to blow up the entire ship, being able to save all of the Rebellion soldiers.

Kanan.

My mood darkened even more as I thought of my former Jedi master.  I had never forgiven myself for his death.  I should have saved him, but it seemed at the time there was nothing I could do to save him from Vader, the Sith who murdered him, the father of Luke and Leia Skywalker.

Kanan had died on a mission to Coruscant.  It was just him and I.  We were going to get information from a friend of the Rebellion who held a position in the Senate.  Little did we know,  it was a trap set up by the Empire.  We arrived only to find the Sith Lord with what was left of the inquisitors, only three loyal Force wielders who had stuck around after the explosion of the Temple.

Kanan and I had fought hard, but in the end there was no point.  We were outmatched and unprepared.  During the fight, I had been stuck with the inquisitors and Kanan had fought with Darth Vader.

Eventually, we tried to escape.  As we were leaving, Vader had come up behind us without us noticing and stabbed Kanan through the back.  I was mortified.  Thankfully, I had managed to escape the Sith and inquisitors.

I never went back to the Rebellion.

I had left a message for the Ghost crew, and had never heard from them since.

I was pulled out of my thoughts as Luke, Lucy, and Leia barged into the cockpit.

"What is happening?" Leia exclaimed.

"We are being pulled out of hyperspace!" Han yelled out as the stars around the ship stilled, revealing a large ship representing the gravity well I had been on.

"Gravity well!" Leia cursed once she saw it.  "There are supposed to be no more in existence!  The last one was destroyed!"

"Apparently not!" Luke said.

"Argh!" Chewie roared as we were pulled closer to the ship.

"The supporters of the Empire must want to stop us from taking over their old bases!" Lucy growled.  "Kriff!  The idiotic loyalty those citizens possess!"

"You said you destroyed the last one, Leia.  How did you do it?" Luke questioned, attempting to stay calm in the stressful situation.

"I did not destroy it!" Leia exclaimed.

"Well, who did?" Luke asked.

"I did," I replied calmly.

"Wonderful!  How do we destroy that huge thing?" Han asked.

"I destroyed it last time by overloading the systems," I explained.

Before anyone could say anything, the ship shook as it suddenly was put to rest.  The gravity well had pulled us into the ship's large docking bay.  Outside were stormtroopers preparing to board the ship.

"How are we going to get ourselves out of this mess?" Han asked.

I reached to my belt, grabbing onto one of my lightsabers.

"We fight," I replied.

But, just as I turned around to face what was left of the Empire, Leia grabbed onto my arm.

"Wait!"
