Rick's Mum's P.O.V

I hoped Rick would be delighted to go to Tina's house, and he was, but when we got there, he looked so nervous I thought he would cry.

We sat down on the comfortable, black leather sofa as Tina's parents offered us tea and cookies. Pleasant aromas wafted from the kitchen, but Tina's mother (I believe) had such a strong jasmine perfume on that the air was thick with mixed smells. Rick was glancing at Tina every now and then, hoping for someone to break the silence. In the end, I decided to speak, for there were only uncomfortable smiles going around. "Hello! I am Marielle, Rick's mother. As you might know, Rick has been with your daughter for quite a while now, and they enjoy being in each other's company. However, they believed it was right to inform us as their parents of what they feel." I hesitated, wondering if I should get straight to the point or not. "My husband," I had difficulty saying that word, "and I have given Rick permission, and are happy for them, but they think it is better if I speak to you on their behalf, asking for your permission."

I felt just as nervous, considering the stares of distaste and annoyance they gave Tina were clearly obvious they did not approve. I decided that I would continue to explain and somehow involve them in conversation. "Rick and I were here to talk about the kids' relationship, and how you feel about it." I motioned in the direction of Tina, who blushed, but looked down immediately due to her mother's look. "Well, Tina is to be married at 21, and her father and I have talked about it many times before." Tina's mother looked guilty as she explained this. The look on Tina's face made it clear that she had not been told about this, and it had been kept from her. She looked angry and disgusted. "Yes, Mark Williams is our friend's son, currently studying to be a doctor. We are willing to arrange Tina's marriage to him in three or four years." Tina's father spoke for the first time. I eyed Tina, thinking, Is this a forced marriage? If it is, I believe the kids will do something they definitely will regret...
