Right here
Charlotte has a deep cut in her left arm, clearly made by a knife.
Okay I will start this chapter with her name without commenting the passage when I ask it to her; but that's not important you already knew the girl was Charlotte, after all.
I don't know how she could control herself and walk around bleeding like that, but she did, and that is impressive.
- We are going to the hospital, Charlotte. - I say, thinking how much she might be scared and wondering what to do to make her trust me.
She carefully holds her arm again and gives me a tiny smile. I hear a shy whisper saying something like "thank you".
I smile back and point my hand to the direction of the hospital. One of the advantages of living in a small town: we always know where things are!
I wait Charlotte's first step so she can stand in front of me. I want to stay as close as possible because I can see every movement is a torment for her. The problem is that I am still a stranger and I can not afford the luxury of touching her yet.
One blink, and I see her legs become jelly- gravity pulls her to the side- and the distance between us suddenly seems to triplicate, making me think I wont pick her in time, so I throw myself to her head, the most important part of the body to be protected.
If you have never threw yourself on the ground to save someone from fainting, good for you. There are so many weird feelings mixed together that looks like you are fainting too. The mind is zero, the only thing that really works are your eyes, with that dark part of the brain waiting you to fail.
My lungs just released air when I felt her head firmly in my arms. Not just her head, I leaned her whole body on my chest.
Charlotte was freezing and her left arm was still spitting blood.
All the people in the hospital's waiting room got up fast to help us cross the hall. I think it was unnecessary because Charlotte doesn't weigh almost nothing and besides I don't want a million strangers around her.
The nurses come quickly and I put her on the stretcher they have brought. Two of them are measuring Charlotte's blood pressure and the others yell a lot of phrases I don't understand, than they push the stretcher away.
Immediately I start following them, but a man in white stops me and ask if I am family. I answer I am a friend, he nods and says Charlotte had lost too much blood and they will sterilize the cut. I thank him and walk back to join people in the waiting room.
