Chapter 6
When I leave school, only Violet accompanies me. She lets me drive with her, since Quinn drove me and he's gone.
"Hey, Vi? Where are Tyler and Quinn? I haven't seen them all day," I ask her in the car.
Her eyes flash with something, but she quickly hides it.
"Um, they ditched," she says.
I detect a false note in her voice, but I let it slide. I'm sure she will tell me sooner or later. She arrives at my house, and I'm surprised to see that Jace isn't home either.
"Um, thanks, Vi. I'll text you later. Bye," I tell her, getting out of the car.
She drives off. I walk to my house, and unlock the door. The house is empty.
"Jace? You here?" I call out.
No answer. I slowly walk in, turning on the lights. It's kind of creepy here.
"J-Jace?"
Still nothing. I shiver, feeling like I'm being watched. A slight breath falls on my neck, and I screech, turning around and falling on my butt.
"Ow," I groan.
No one's there. My breathe is coming in pants right now. This is so creepy.
The rumble of a car suddenly sounds. I jump up, running to the door and flinging it open. Jace is hopping out of Quinn's car. I run to him, tear now falling down my cheeks.
"Oh my gosh, Jace! I think there's something in the house. Please don't leave me alone in there again!" I cry.
A car door slams and someone else pulls me into them. I look up and see Quinn. Ignoring the fact that I'm still nervous around him, I snuggle into his chest, staining his shirt with my tears.
"What's wrong, Angel?" He asks me softly.
"I-I was alone in the h-house, a-and I fe-felt like I was being wa-watched. Then I f-f-felt a breath on my n-n-neck. I f-fell afterwards," I stutter.
His arms tighten around me, and I whimper, feeling scared of him now. He growls lowly, and I squeak. That growl did not sound human.
"Sera? You okay?" Tyler asks from behind Quinn.
So that's who they were with. But why my brother? Did he not go to work today? And since when have they all been friends? I start to struggle in Quinn's arms, not liking how strange everything is getting. Quinn growls again and I squeak, struggling harder.
"Quinn, let me go," I tell him.
His grip tightens, and I whimper out in pain when his grip gets too tight. He suddenly lets go. I fly out of his arms, rubbing mine.
"I am so sorry, Sera. I don't know what came over me," he apologizes.
I shake my head.
"Stop lying! I know something's up. Since when do you and Tyler hang out with my brother? And what was that growl? It didn't sound human. And you hurt me! What are you hiding?" I yell, tears pooling in my eyes.
Quinn looks down, sighing. Tyler shuffles around awkwardly, while Jace subtly glares at Quinn.
"I can't tell you yet," he whispers.
He looks up, hurt and sorrow in his blue eyes. He goes to hold me, but I step back, tears finally falling. My own brother won't even tell me anything. I turn around, running off down the road to the school.
"Sera!" Jace calls out.
I ignore him, continuing to flee. They're lying to me. All of them. Violet too. She was hiding what the boys were really doing. What are they hiding from me?
Without thinking, I run into the forest surrounding the school, just like last time. I think this is going to become a routine. I trip on a fallen branch, and fall. My sobs are the only sounds in the forest. Not even bothering to move to a tree, I lay down on the forest floor, sobbing my heart out.
My sobs have turned to sniffles now, when a twig snaps. I hiccup a gasp, sitting up and looking around. My heart beat's getting faster. A shadow forms ahead of me and I stop breathing for a second. The shadow comes over and I finally see what it is. A black wolf... with the same eyes I saw in the forest last time. I scream. So this is how I'll die. Although, the wolf is really beautiful, and it's been my dream to see one in real life; but this is still terrifying.
The wolf tilts its head to the side, curious. It trots over to me, sitting down right in front of me. I stare at it for a while, before it walks right into my lap. I tense for a second. The wolf is twice the size of what I thought a normal wolf was like.
"Woah, you're heavy!" I exclaim.
It sits down on my lap, laying its head on its paws.
"Uh, hi?" I say.
I sniffle.
"You must be a male, right?" I ask the wolf.
I roll my eyes. As if the wolf could understand me. He surprises me, however, when he nods.
"Good boy?"
He barks, sitting up in my lap and nuzzling into my neck.
"Wow, you're very friendly."
He licks my neck and I giggle.
"Hey! That tickles!" I squeal, giggling still.
He stops, sitting up and backing out of my lap to look at me. I sniffle again, and he whimpers, licking away one of my stray tears.
"Thanks."
He tilts his head, as if to ask for an explanation as to why I was crying.
"It's just that, my brother and these two guys I know are hiding something from me. I don't know what, but it's something big, because even my best friend knows. I want to know, but no one will tell me. And no one knows, but I've been feeling like I'm being watched," I tell him.
He growls, his teeth showing.
"Shh, it's okay! They're not here," I murmur, hesitantly petting the wolf.
He instantly calms, making a wolf-version of a purr sound. I smile, going to scratch under his head. He rolls over, and I stroke his stomach.
"They were right outside a Chinese place I went to yesterday. Then I felt someone in my house today. I don't know how, but it was creepy. Like someone was breathing right down my neck."
He whimpers when I stop stroking him, so I continue.
"But I'm sure I'm just imagining it. I do have quite a big one," I say, giggling a bit.
I pause to stare at the wolf in front of me.
"You know, it's always been my dream to meet a real life wolf. You're so beautiful," I murmur.
He yips, wagging his tail, but still on his back.
"I should probably get going, though. My brother's probably worried sick right now."
I get up, and the wolf follows. I kneel down, hugging the wolf.
"Thanks for pretending to listen to me. I enjoyed it."
I get back up, walking away. I hear a whimper, and turn around to wave to him one last time, before walking back home. Oh boy, Jace is going to kill me.
Quinn
I watch her leave us in the woods. Hunter whimpers when she leaves, but she turns around, smiles, and waves at us. I shift back into human form, finding some clothes the pack keeps in the woods for each other to use. I can still feel the tingles and shocks from where she stroked and petted me, well, Hunter, I guess.
Mate is mine, Hunter growls in my head.
I roll my eyes. We're the same person and wolf, Hunter. She's ours.
I sigh, walking out of the woods and back to the pack house. At least now she trusts Hunter. If only she trusted me too.
So, yeah, that was sorta short, huh? I don't even know anymore. Hah.

Dan's face is mine right now. Sorry!
