His Proposal - 21

Wheeling Aleysa into the room, I place the chair next to the bed and help Aleysa in. She holds onto me as I move her to the bed.

Aleysa smiles at me. "Thanks, Chloe."

"You're welcome." Folding up the chair, I place it next to the door so the nurse can come to the room to check on Aleysa and the other girl. "I'm going to get a drink. Do you want anything?"

"Water, please."

"Okay, I'll be right back." Walking out of the room, I head toward the drink machine, put money in it, and get two bottles of water.

My phone goes off as I get the water out of the machine. I put one bottle in my pocket and hold the other.

Looking at the phone, I see Jai flash across the screen. I answer the call.

Me: Hey, Jai.

Jai: Hey, Chloe. I'm in front of the hospital. Can you come and get me? I don't want to look like an idiot looking for you.

Me: Sure, I'll be down shortly. I have to give my sister a water bottle, and then I'll be right down.

After hanging up the phone, I walk back to Aleysa's room. I place the water on the table, grab a plastic cup from the nightstand, and pour the water into the cup. "Jai's waiting for me downstairs," I say.

Aleysa looks at me. "Can you get the magazine from under the bed? I want him to sign it for me."

Grabbing the magazine from under the bed, I give it to Aleysa. On the cover, there's a picture of Jai, who's wearing a football helmet, without a shirt on, and pants that show his V-line and muscles.

Damn, he looks hot without clothes on.

Aleysa looks at me. "You're drooling, sis." She wipes the corner of her mouth.

"Shut up." I run into the bathroom and check myself in the mirror. I readjust the crown on my head and clean up the smudged eyeliner around my eyes. I quickly apply some gloss to my lips before leaving the bathroom.

Aleysa looks at me. "Go get your man."

Crossing my arms, I look at her. "Jai's not mine."

Aleysa turns away from me and opens the magazine.

Walking out of the room, I head down to the ground floor. As soon as I step out of the lift, I see Jai leaning against it. He grabs my arm and pulls me back inside. The door closes, and it takes us to the floor.

Jai looks me up and down. "Hey, Chloe. You look great."

My face heats up from his words. "Thanks," I mumble, looking at the floor.

Jai takes a step closer to me and lifts my chin, so I'm looking at him. "Never hide that blush from me, Chloe. You're a beautiful woman, and I would like to see every emotion that crosses your face."

"Okay," I whisper.

He reaches for the crown on my head. "That looks great. Where did you get it?"

"I made it."

Jai lets go of the crown. "Wow! You did an amazing job with it. You should sell it. I'm sure many women would love to wear one of them when they get married." He pulls his phone out of his pocket. "Can I take a picture of it and send it to a friend who's getting married shortly?"

"Sure," he says, taking a couple of photos of me. "Can I see them?" I stand next to him, and he shows me his phone.

There are heaps of photos of me and the crown. He shows me three pictures that he's sending to his friend. "If my friend wants one, can you make it for her?"

"Yes, I can. If she has a different design, I'll give that a go too."

Jai sends the message to his friend.

The door to the lift opens, and he lets me exit before him. He follows me as we go to my sister's room.

Walking into the room, I see Aleysa put the magazine on the bed. I walk over to the bed and sit next to her. "Jai, I want you to meet my sister, Aleysa. Aleysa, this is Jai."

Aleysa smiles. "Hi," she whispers.

Jai moves towards us and smiles at her. "It's nice to meet you, Aleysa. Your sister has told me so much about you." He looks at the bed and sees the magazine with his face on it. He picks it up and takes a close look at it. "Ah, I remember this shoot. Somebody took it before the injury that ended my career."

Aleysa smiles. "I know. Dad used to tell me that you were a great player, and it was such a shame that your injury made you give up the sport."

He nods. "I'm surprised that your father would have followed my career. Not many would remember me playing, as it's been five years since my career ended."

She looks at me. "Dad kept some videos of some games that Jai played in. You should watch it, Chloe."

Jai looks at me. "I would like to see some of those games with you."

"Okay,"

I haven't seen any of his games before.

Jai looks at the magazine on the bed. "Do you want me to autograph that for you?"

Aleysa nods. "Yes, please."

He picks up the magazine and then looks at me. "Do you have a pen?"

Going through my bag, I find a pen buried at the bottom. I pull the pen out and give it to him.

Jai picks up the magazine and autographs it for her. He gives it back. "Do you want a photo with me? It would be a better picture than the one in the magazine."

That's a dream come true for her. When I visited my parents every year, they would tell me about Jai Marshall.

Aleysa looks at me. "Can I?"

"Sure." Pulling my phone out of my back pocket, I took a photo of them together.

Jai looks at me. "Let's take a selfie?"

Climbing onto the bed, I sit between Aleysa and Jai. I take the photo and then look at it on the phone. Jai is looking at me with a smile on his face.

He looks hot in this photo.

I showed him the picture. He said, "You look beautiful. Can you send it to me?"

"Sure," I said, opening the text app and sending him the picture.

Jai looks at his watch and says. "We need to get to the club."

Kissing my sister's cheek, I say. "I'll see you tonight. Tomorrow's going to be a long day for you."

Jai waves at her. "Bye, Aleysa. It was nice meeting you."

Aleysa smiles at him. "Bye, Jai." She watches us leave the room.

As Jai and I walk down the hall, he asks. "What's happening tomorrow?"

"Aleysa starts chemo."

He pulls me into his arms. "I want you to take tomorrow night off. Watching your sister go through treatment tomorrow is going to take a lot out of you, and I want you to be a hundred and ten per cent when you work at Lusive."

"Thanks, Jai."

At Lusive, I leave the car and go to the entrance door with Jai. He places his hand on the small of my back. "Before you start work, I must see you in my office." He doesn't move his hand from my back as we approach his office.

When we get to the stairs, he removes his hand, and I walk up them. A few people look at us as we walk to the office. He opens the door and waits for me to enter first.

Making my way over to the chair, I see a yellow envelope on the desk with my name on it. I turn to him. "What's this?"

Jai moves to his chair and pushes himself over to my side of the table. "That's the proposal I have for you. Open it and let me know if I need to change anything."

Opening the envelope, I look at the details on it.

Name: Chloe Knight

DOB: June 28th, 1990

My phone number and address are on the piece of paper. I scroll further down the page and see the proposal near the bottom.

1. Jai Marshall will pay for Aleysa Knight's hospital costs and private room.

2. Chloe Knight will be Jai Marshall's Girlfriend. She will be presented to his family at the family reunion and afterwards to the press.

3. Chloe Knight will not reveal the proposal to the press. If she does, she must pay Jai Marshall two hundred and fifty thousand dollars.

4. Chloe Knight will continue to work at Lusive until both parties have agreed that it is no longer possible for them to collaborate.

Looking at him. "You're doing all that for me, and all you're asking for in return is for me to be your girlfriend?" I shake my head. "I thought that you would add something extra to this proposal."

He places his arm around me. "I have everything that I need, Chloe. I'm not going to force a whole heap of things onto you. I'm not that type of guy. I would like to have a family someday, but I can't force that onto you in a proposal. It will be unfair for us if we're not in love."

I rise. "I hope you don't regret this proposal with me." Picking up a pen, I sign the proposal. "I put my hand on his arm and whispered. "You don't have to worry about me telling the world about the proposal. Just put it in the right people's hands. If you don't it will get out and I will be the one to face the consequences of a shit storm."

Jai shakes his head. "I won't let anything happen to your family and you."

Opening the door. "I'd better get to work. I don't want the boss to fire me because I'm tardy." I wink at him.

He laughs. "He wouldn't fire you. If I didn't have you working for me, I wouldn't be getting extra money from the customers. Having you here has made more guys drop by."

"Maybe, you should let the lower class join the rich guys. Then you'd get more money. Or hire more women. Then we can go coyote ugly for the crowd."

Jai laughs, which lights his eyes up. He shakes his head. "There's no way you'll be doing that. However, I might consider hiring more women."

"Bye, Jai." I shut the door and made my way down to the bar. I step behind the bar, and a guy walks over to me. "Hey, I'm Kye."

Shaking his hand, I say. "Chloe," I drop his hand and look at the camera.

Kye shakes his head. "The boss told me all about you. He said that you were a good worker and that you're off-limits." He looks me up and down. "I see why the boss wants you. You're hot as hell."

I smirk. "Better be careful or I'll burn you." Winking at him, I move down to the other end of the bar." I serve customers. As soon as I've finished one group, another group moves to the bar.

A guy slides a piece of paper with the money towards me. "Here's my number, beautiful. You can call me if you get sick of your current boyfriend."

I take the money and number off the bar. "I'll think about it." I put the number next to the till and get the change out. I walk over to him and give him change. "Have a great night."

That group walks away, and another takes its place. A guy whistles. "Hey, Baby. I need a drink."

Leaning across the bar. "What do you want?"

He places his order, and I make the drink. I put it in front of him. He slides the money across the table. When he moves his hand, I see a condom on the note.

Gross.

Taking the money off the counter, I put it in the till. I leave the change in the till and move over to him. "You can keep the condom. I won't be needing it tonight."

He leaves it on the bar and walks away.

Kye looks at the wrapping. "Does that happen to you all the time?"

Shaking my head, I say. "This is the first time."

Jai runs down the stairs. His hands are in fists.

Hurrying towards him, I block his way. I placed my arm on his chest. "Jai, let it go."

He shakes his head. "That guy needs to learn a lesson."

"Not tonight. Go to your office. I'm fine here." I whisper. "You don't need to go all caveman."
