Mission Impossible
Robin sat on the couch in the living area, fingers tapping impatiently on the armrest. The Titans had been gathered there for the past fifteen minutes, the air steadily growing tenser. This feeling had grown to be so intense that Beast Boy winced every other second.
Suddenly, the sight of glowing blue claws appeared out of thin air, making the Titans jump up in surprise. When an immensely large, bipedal wolf wearing a torn sweat suit stepped through, both Robin and Cyborg relaxed.
"Raven, Starfire, it's our tour guide." Robin said grimly. He walked forward cautiously, not wanting to risk anything, no matter if Clockwork said a sentient wolf was safe. The two female Titans followed without a word. Wulf simply opened another portal with his (rather intimidating) claws. Taking a deep breath, Robin stepped into the glowing tear in the universe.

When Robin stepped out of the portal, he couldn't help but gape at his surroundings. Floating islands and doors were suspended in hue of green. Is this what Cyborg saw when he went through that portal? Is this what Danny had seen a countless amount of times?
"Hello Titans." Clockwork said from behind, causing Robin to turn. He glanced at Raven and Starfire, seeing a look of awe on both of their faces, though Raven's was more subdued. Glancing back at the ghost, he saw Clockwork gesture for them to follow.
When they entered the tower, they saw countless screens playing through different people's lives. Upon further inspection, the Titans noticed that several screens showed a familiar half ghost. Robin scanned through those, seeing glimpses of his infancy, toddler years, and the rest of his childhood. He saw as Danny was constantly shoved against lockers, and pushed around. Danny was bullied?
"He has been through a lot in his life." Clockwork spoke, a sad look on his face. Robin turned away from the screens, seeing the saddened face of Raven, and Starfire nearly in tears. Truthfully, Robin hadn't even noticed their presence, something rare in and of itself.
"What's the plan to rescue him?" Robin said, having already resigned himself to take a backseat to the leadership position, no matter how difficult it may be. He was in an unfamiliar territory, he had reasoned with himself earlier, with an unfamiliar enemy.
"The plan is relatively simple. I'm sending Wulf with you; he knows where Alpan's territory is. The four of you are to find Danny there, and bring him with you through a portal Wulf will create. Try not to engage Alpan head on; I doubt you will win." Robin let out an indignant noise. Clockwork was quick to try to appease him. "That is nothing against your abilities. It is simply due to Alpan's abilities, and your lack of experience against them."
"What abilities?" Raven spoke up in her monotone voice.
"She has the ability to enforce any and all anger you have felt. As I'm sure you know, fighting with too many emotions diminishes skill." Robin couldn't help but agree, thinking back to how Slade had manipulated him using his anger. "She can also manipulate fire. If you are forced to confront her, use water and ice. We do not have much time, you must go now." He said urgently.
Robin nodded, swiftly turning towards the exit with the others. If they had stayed for even a moment longer, they would have heard Clockwork mumble sadly, "Please bring him back safely."
Their small group of four was swiftly making their way to Alapn's lair. Starfire was carrying Robin, while Raven and Wulf were both flying at a fast pace.
"Ni estas preskaŭ tie." Wulf spoke suddenly, surprising the Titans out of their stupors.
"What?" Robin asked, not recognizing the language.
"He said 'we are nearly there.'" Raven said, continuing to fly. Robin just stared at her from behind her, a bit shocked that she understood the ghost. After a moment of staring he just assumed it was a dead language.
After another several torturous minutes, Wulf slowed, eventually floating above a dark island. The Titans stared at Wulf, expecting him to say something, but the sentient wolf ghost just nodded. Slowly, they all descended towards the island. Robin stood, staring at what appeared to be a sort of temple. Though, the colors seemed to be less than traditional. The stones themselves were a dark black, with fiery red engravings in strange characters that Robin didn't recognize. Upon finding what appeared to be the entrance, they hesitated, almost afraid to see what had become of their newfound friend.
"Okay Titans, remember, do not engage with this Alpan. Our first priority is getting Danny out. Let's go!" He ordered, starting towards the door.
Upon entering the temple, they were shocked to find it nearly bare. In fact, the only visible thing in the room was a simple wooden door, standing out against its stone surroundings. A growing feeling of anger swept over the Titans as they approached the door. Despite this, however, they continued forward, wrenching open the door with a surprising amount of ease. They expected to see Danny tied up against his will, or in a similar state he had been in at the facility. That isn't the sight they were met with. No, instead they saw a nearly empty room. That is, of course, excluding a chair in the center of the room. There sat Danny, seeming almost comatose. His head laid on his shoulder, eyes cracked open ever so slightly. His breathes were nearly nonexistent.
"Danny!" They shouted, the foreign anger momentarily forgotten. The Titans ran up to Danny, terrified as to what had become of their friend.
"Danny, come on, wake up!" Robin hissed, fear ringing in his voice. "Wake up!" He nearly shouted. The air suddenly became tense, far too tense. Whipping around, Robin saw the same woman he had seen in Danny's room. "Raven!" He shouted, spurring the sorcerous to put up a barrier around them. "Dammit Danny!" Robin shouted, shaking the half ghost. "Wake up!"
"Danny." Sang a breathy voice from beyond Raven's barrier. "Wake up and meet our guests." Robin stared wide eyed at the boy when his eyes opened. Instead of the expected green , his eyes were a fiery red, the same eyes as who Robin assumed was Alpan.
"Amiko? Kio okazis al vi? " Wulf whispered, nearly inaudibly. Robin didn't need any translation; the pain and concern in his voice was more than enough.
Danny slowly stood from the chair, not saying a word to any of them while he walked to the edge of Raven's barrier. He raised a hand to the black magic, gently placing it to the barrier. Much to the shock of the Titans, Raven in particular, it crumbled into nonexistence. When nothing blocked his way, Danny continued forward, towards Alpan.
"Danny, didn't I tell you to greet them?" She spoke, her voice irritatingly breathy. "No matter. I'm afraid we are busy." She directed to the Titans. "Leave."
"Not gonna happen. Not without Danny." Robin growled, grabbing his staff. Starfire's eyes lit up with energy, and Raven's hand were engulfed in black magic. It was clear that none of them were listening to Clockwork's warning.
"I'm afraid that will not be possible." She said flippantly. "Danny, if you would?" Alpan backed away slightly, giving Danny room to do whatever it was she wanted. Much to the surprise of the Titans, Danny stepped forward, his hands glowing with green energy.
"Danny?" Robin asked, unable to keep the hurt out of his voice. He lowered his staff slightly, not wanting to hurt Danny. This, however, was a bad idea. Danny took the opportunity to blast Robin back. Raven, Starfire, and Wulf all stared in shock for a moment, but quickly jumped into action. The two Titans still standing spread out, Starfire shooting her starbolts, while Raven used her black magic to peel bits of wall to throw at Danny. However, neither girl had the heart to actually try to harm him, so none of their attacks actually landed. Unfortunately for them, Danny had no such qualms. He easily weaved through their various attacks, soon directly in front of the young Tameranian. He shot an ectoblast at Starfire, giving her no chance to avoid it. She flew back, hitting the wall with a loud bang! Satisfied that she was taken care of for the moment, he quickly went invisible. In mere seconds he dispatched of Raven the same way he did the other Titans. All that was left was Wulf, who hadn't fought. The ghost just stood there, pain and sadness evident in his gaze.
"Kiel vi povus damaĝi viajn amikojn tiel? Kio okazis, mia amiko?" Wulf spoke softly, but clearly audible to the half ghost. Danny lowered his clenched fists, the energy dissipating. His fiery gaze melted into the familiar green eyes.
"W-Wulf?" He softly stuttered, pain written on his face. "Wh-"
"Danny!" Alpan practically shrieked, her fists glowing red. The half ghosts eyes ignited, glowing a bright red once again. His stance tensed, hands glowing as they had moments ago. "Get rid of them!"
"Danny!" Robin shouted, his staff elongated. "I don't want to hurt you!" Before the boy wonder could charge, however, Wulf blocked his path. "Get out of my way!" He then noticed that the overgrown wolf carried Starfire and Raven, both unconscious. When Robin looked up at the ghost, Wulf just shook his head. With a pained look at Danny, Robin nodded. In seconds, Wulf tore open a portal between dimensions, Robin running through followed by Wulf.
They landed directly in front of the Tower, seeing the moon overhead. How long had they been gone for? Robin didn't know. He looked back to see that Wulf had left, but Raven seemed to be waking up. With a groan, she sat up. Robin could see her taking in the familiar surrounding.
"What happened?" She asked, her voice monotone even now.
"We were forced to retreat. The ghost already left." Robin spoke shortly, lifting Starfire. "Let's go." He said, walking towards their front door.
When they made it to the living area, Robin set Star on the couch. He quickly hit the button to set off the alarm. Mere moments later, Cyborg ran out, carrying a half asleep Beast Boy by his collar.
"Robin!" Cyborg shouted. "What happened? Where's Danny?" The half metal teen asked, noticing a lack of a half ghost.
"The mission was far more difficult than we expected." Robin started, going on to explain the details of what happened. From how they found him, to how they were forced to retreat.
"He attacked you guys!" Beast Boy shouted. "But I thought..." He trailed off, sadness creeping into his expression.
"It appears that way." Raven said bitterly, clearly upset but not willing to show it.
"No." Robin said, surprising the other Titans. "He isn't doing this willingly." He continued, staring at the still unconscious Starfire. "There was a moment, after you fell unconscious Raven, that he was in control again. He wasn't aware of what he was doing. I think Clockwork was right; this Alpan is forcing his hand."
"Okay, so what do we do now?" Cyborg asked, clearly relieved that Danny wasn't willingly hurting the team.
"I-" Robin started, averting his gaze to the floor, "I don't know."
