{Chapter Two}
Embarrassment makes you do more embarrassing things.
I have a band aid around my middle finger. That made Finn laugh like a maniac. I was glaring at him as he rolled on floor clutching his stomach.
It started when I was cleaning my room after mom threatened me to throw me out of house if I didn't. When I looked out of the window for fresh natural air, my eyes fell on a very shirtless Finn in his lawn. I blame my eyes as they fixed on his flexing muscles. As if sensing my gaze on him, he looked up at me. Our eyes connected and I panicked jumping back and tangling my foot, falling on my back. My hand hit the desk scraping my middle finger.
The door of my room burst open when I was walking towards bathroom and Finn appeared shirtless. I jumped again slamming my back against wall. Newton's third law of motion threw me forward and I face planted on floor. Only my hands saved my face from any damage.
Instead of helping me, Finn burst into a fit of laughter. My face burnt in embarrassment and I rushed to bathroom aiding my ailing finger. When I came outside, he was still laughing, still shirtless. Glaring at him, I sat on my freshly made bed cradling my left hand.
When his laughter died down, I focused my gaze on his face. His eyes held amusement. I pursed my lips squinting my eyes at him.
"Good boys help others and not laugh at them." I told him gravely.
He chuckled and nodded. "Got it."
I scowled but made my face blank or he would again throw that in my face in next tutoring session. I had to keep my attitude in check to improve his.
When he will become a good boy, I will take my revenge.
"How's your... middle finger?" He burst out laughing again and I clenched my jaw.
"It's fine. Thanks for concern." I said through gritted teeth.
He nodded controlling his laughter and walked out.
"And good boys don't roam around shirtless." I yelled. His laughter filled the air yet again.
I smiled to myself. How can someone laugh like that? It was a music to ears.
Now I see why girls fall for him. He has a natural charm.
*
An hour later Finn Black was at my door. My mom was bursting with happiness. She watched me with a gleam in her eyes when I left house with Finn.
"We will take my car." I could have argued if there was not a finality in his tone.
*
He crossed the speed limit.
"Good boyd do not cross speed limits." I told him clutching the seatbelt tightly. It was a relief the words came out of my mouth without stuttering.
"I'm not a good boy yet." He grumbled.
"And you won't be of you don't listen to me. Do it when you sit on your bike." I said as he slowed down.
"But you said no bikes." He told me
"Are you just going to keep it at your home like a trophy?" I asked.
"No, I'm planning to sell it soon."
"Until then you can use it. Break speed limits then and not in a car, especially not when I'm sitting with you."
"Scared?"
I scoffed. "Sue me for caring for my life and that of pedestrians."
"I won't lose control."
"That's what they say before their last trip to hell."
"Whatever," he groaned driving in a normal speed. I relaxed leaning back. We drove in silence. I closed my eyes enjoying the ride.
I love rides. Because of lack of friends I don't get a chance to sleep during a drive and I have to drive on my own. It's not as much fun.
"We are here, bear." Finn shook my arm not to gently. I was not asleep but I also didn't want to get up.
I glared at him. "You didn't have to shake me. That's not what good boys do." I scolded. He broke our eye contact and muttered something inaudible.
"I'm sorry your highness. We have arrived our destination." He said in fake accent.
I rolled my eyes. He got out of the car and slammed door behind him. I too followed his lead.
"What are we doing here?" I asked.
"Our lunch date. Remember?"
"I thought we were going to a diner or something. What are we doing in a park?" I questioned warily.
Don't let it be one of his pranks. He won't ditch me here in the park, right?
"Jeremy is coming here." He announced taking out a basket from backseat. I hadn't noticed it before. So we were having a picnic.
"Jeremy?"
"My cousin. He is going to attend the same place you go to study. And he will be staying here for final year."
"Why?"
He scoffed. "They think he will be a good influence on me. After all he is a good boy." He rolled his eyes.
I could hear something else in his voice. Something akin to resentment.
"You'll be one too by the end of two months." I felt the need to assure him. To make him feel better. He had that tortured look in his tempting me to hug him.
"You better do that job or you won't like the consequences." He reminded me. I scowled at him.
Here I was thinking to make him feel better while he was still plotting to make my life a living hell. What did I expect? A grateful smile and a thank you? Honestly yes. I have to remind that he is a bad boy. With no morals and an unbearable attitude.
"Let's go," I snapped making him chuckle.
There were people of all ages walking in the park. Kids were playing. Couples were enjoying each other's company. They seemed to enjoy their time. I was the only one already thinking about bashing my companion's head against the tree. Or hang him upside down a branch and start my sweet painful torture.
He spread out a blanket and sat on it placing the basket in front of him without saying a word to me. I stood at side watching him with arms crossed. He opened the basket taking out a sandwiched wrapped in foil. He closed the basket before leaning against the tree and started munching on it.
After he finished, his eyes fell on me. He raised an eyebrow staring up at me.
"What?" He asked without any care of the world.
"Nothing. It's not like a certain boy asked me to for a lunch, drove me to a park, spread out a blanket, took out a sandwich from a picnic basket and ate it in front of me. It was just a a scene playing on a screen that just felt so real. But it wasn't because in the end I was an audience watching the scene unfold with elephants jumping in my stomach." I babbled trying to stop my voice from rising and saying something really horrible.
"Oh," he said nodding thoughtfully.
I gave him a flat look. "That's all you can say. Oh? 'I'm sorry Aubrey, I'll never do that. I'll be your cook-slave for life.' That's if you can cook fine."
"I can cook but I'm not going to be your cook-slave. Seriously, where did you get that from? And oh, I am not sorry. The basket is in front if you and I'm not stopping you from touching it." He shrugged indifferently.
I smiled sweetly at him. "Fine then." I picked the basket and walked away from him.
He cried out my name. That was just my imagination. He actually screamed for his vanilla cupcakes. Even accused me for kidnapping them saying he'd report me.
I turned around after seven steps and glared at him walking back to him and sitting cross legged on the blanket. I placed the basket in front of me and he snatched it giving me a dirty look.
"Bad girl," he hissed.
"Eh! False statement." I imitated a buzzer. "I'm a good girl. You are a bad boy."
He smirked and ran a hand through his hair. "I know. That's why all girls want me." He made a kissy face and I glared at him.
"Not all the girls." I argued.
His face fell and he wore a guarded look.
"We are not here to chat like friends. Tell me how to be a good boy." His tone went from playful to serious. I frowned at him.
"Don't I get to eat anything?" I asked. He glared at me and I quickly added. "Good boys share."
"Take it." He pushed to basket to me.
"Well there's a different way when you are on a picnic. I will ask you what you have on you and you will inform me. I will tell you what I like among them and then we eat. And this is your basket. I'm not going to just sneak my hand in it."
I've never been on a picnic date. I've never been on a date. My knowledge was limited to what I would do. And I would not like my companion to just rummage in my basket.
He scoffed. "You didn't mind running away with this basket before."
"I was not running away. I was walking away. And that was to get your attention because you were acting so indifferently. You are incorrigible." I fumed.
"Thanks," he smirked at me.
"That was not a compliment." I snapped.
I groaned. "Why are we even fighting. I want to eat."
He rolled his eyes and handed me something. I unwrapped it to reveal a sandwich. We ate in silence. I was expecting him to say anything but he didn't. I felt his gaze on me few times but mostly he was lost in his own little world.
Once we were finished. "It was nice." I felt the need to say. "You were a good boy."
"Don't make me feel like a dog." He barked.
I nodded biting my lip. Funny. He acts like a son of bitch but doesn't want to be called a dog.
"When is this friend if yours coming?" I asked him to change the topic.
"Tonight. Change of plans." He answered shrugging. "You better not associate with him. He isn't what he looks likes."
I frowned nodding. Not that I was planning to talk to his cousin anyway. One boy is enough trouble for me.
"I'm saying this only because I don't want you spilling my secret to him." He clarified.
I was puzzled but then it came to me. His secret of needing my help to become a good boy.
I think he wants to show his family that he is a good boy so that they send his cousin away. From the looks of it, he doesn't seem to like his cousin too much.
What was his name again? Jared? Jerry?
"We are here for another thirty minutes. Tell me how to be a good boy." He said interrupting my thoughts.
I nodded my head looking around the park. I knew what I was doing. My eyes fell on a girl sitting at the corner watching other kids playing. She had a look of longing in her eyes as if she also wanted to play.
"Look at that girl." I gestured him my head.
He looked at the direction I pointed at. He nodded watching her though I was not sure it was her or the teenage girls at distance.
"What is she doing?" I asked.
He frowned watching hard.
"Don't look so hard, pedo." I chided.
He looked at me seriously. "I'm not a pedo." He growled.
"I know. Now I'm going to interact with her. Watch."
I walked towards to the and sat at her side. "Hey Mia," I smiled at her.
Mia is my mom's colleagues seven years old daughter. I know her. She visits park with her mother every Sunday. This is going to be a successful plan.
"Hey Aubrey," she smiled at me.
My plan was to make her laugh. She had a sprained ankle so she was unable to play with her friends. I had to show what good people do.
*
I managed to make her smile and said goodbye it was time for her to leave. I talked to her mother and talked for a minute and retired back to Finn who watched me intensely. I almost shivered.
"You saw that?" I asked sitting on the blanket again.
He raised an eyebrow whipping that intense look.
"Good people bring smile on other's face. I brought smile on that little girl's face. You can do the same as experiment." I told him.
"But rest of kids are playing." He pointed.
"You can find someone else." I told him and looked around the park. My eyes fell on an old lady sitting on a bench alone.
"That lady," I told him featuring towards the old lady.
"I am not-"
"Good boy," I reminded him.
He signed and muttered something under his breath and stood up. He fixed his shirt and ran a hand through his hair.
"Go," I hissed and he complied.
I watched him as he sat at old lady's side and started talking to her animatedly. He said something to her and laughed. The old lady merely looked at him calmly. His laughter stopped and he looked uncomfortable. He said something with the lady watching him and he laughed again. He got the sane reaction. He squirmed at his seat. Again he said something but she didn't laugh. He seemed really uncomfortable with an old lady watching him constantly, unblinkingly.
Then a man approached him and Finn stood up. They had a conversation and Finn smiled nervously glancing and old lady. He shook his hand with the man.
I could have sworn I saw a tinge of red on his face.
He said something and started walking to me with eyes focused on green grass on the way.
I wondered what went there. The man and old lady left. Finn was walking slowly but with long strides. I watched him curiously.
Even the way he walks oozes power. No doubt he is intimidating.
When he approached me, he flopped down with a groan.
"What happened there?" I asked.
He looked at me with a scowl. It didn't go well then.
"I made my best jokes that can make anyone laugh." He started in a frustrated tone.
"Jokes?"
(A/N: These are not mine. I searched them, copied them and pasted.)
"Yeah, I asked her some funny questions. My first question was-" he cleared his throat as if preparing for an important speech. " What does a lamb shagger say?"
I gave him a look of horror. Did he ask that to old lady?
"Bang a lamb a ding dong."
My mouth hung open as I stated at him in disbelief. He laughed at his own perverted joke.
"Next question-"
I squealed and jumped shutting his mouth with my hand. "I don't want to know the question or answer. Please. Don't say anything." I shook my head.
He grinned under my palm and pulled my hands away from his face, holding them in his large ones. Heat rushed to my cheeks but then I remembered he said that to the old lady. I glared at him pulling my hand back and crawled away putting some distance between us.
"But my jokes were wasted." He pouted sadly.
"Why?" I asked trying not to look at his pink lips.
"She was deaf." He said frustrated.
I didn't know whether to laugh or feel relieved. He was sitting there telling perverted jokes to a deaf old lady. I'm so glad I didn't choose a kid for him. I did a favor to mankind.
This boy is impossible.
"Finn, you don't go around telling perverted jokes to random people. It's good she was deaf or you would have been in lot of trouble." I whisper yelled at him.
"What was I supposed to say then? I only know these jokes."
"You need to change. God! Why am I even in this mess. Listen carefully, don't ever make perverted jokes. Good boys don't do that."
"Okay..." He said guarded. "I won't have done that if you had informed me."
I let out a raged breath.
"I think we should go home now. My mom is waiting for me." I said after taking a deep breath.
It was only then I realized how much trouble the bad boy was going to bring before he becomes a good boy.
***** *****
I don't know what Finn's joke mean so it makes me feel less bad about posting it. I don't know why I feel bad though. It's just kind of awkward.
