Reunion (24)

Your POV

It's a few hours after the failed freedom march, and I'm still rather shaken up by it. I don't let it show, though, as Hank, Connor and I are standing in Fowler's office.
We had been called in.
"You're off the case. The FBI is taking over."
"What..? But we're onto something! We- We just need more time. I'm sure we can—"
"Hank, you don't get it. This isn't just another investigation, it's a fucking civil war! It's out of our hands now... We're talking about national security here."
I stay silent, stunned.
I also know better than to fight with the captain. Straight to his face, at least.
"Fuck that! You can't just pull the plug now. Not when we're so close!"
"You're always saying you can't stand androids! Jesus, Hank, make up your mind! I thought you'd be happy about this!"
"We're about to crack the case! I know we can solve it! For God's sake, Jeffrey, can't you back me up this one time?"
"There's nothing I can do. You're back on homicide and the android returns to CyberLife. I'm sorry, Hank, but it's over."
My heart drops even further at these news.
Connor's going back to CyberLife?
Doesn't that mean he'll be destroyed, since he failed his mission..?
Hank storms out of the room with Connor and I following. I cross my arms as Connor sits on Hank's desk, the man himself in his chair.
"We can't just give up like that. I know we could have solved this case!" Connor states in frustration.
"There's gotta be something we can do," I add.
"So you're going back to CyberLife?" Hank asks.
"I have no choice. I'll be deactivated and analyzed to find out why I failed..."
"What if we're on the wrong side? What if we're fighting against people who just wanna be free..?"
"That's what I've been thinking this whole time," I reply, mildly exasperated. "It's about time you finally see it."
"When the deviants rise up, there will be chaos. We could have stopped it..! But now it's too late," Connor replies.
"When you refused to kill that android at Kamski's place... You put yourself in her shoes. You showed empathy, Connor."
"Empathy is a human emotion," I finish for him, locking eyes with the RK800.
"I don't know why I did it..." he trails off, glancing between us two. "I'm not programmed to say things like this, but... I really appreciated working with you. With a little more time, who knows... We might've even become friends."
Connor then looks at me, "I'm also glad that I got to work with you as well, YN. You've been nothing short of amazing throughout the time I've known you."
I smile sadly at that, my face probably reddening at his words. "Likewise, Connor."
"Well, well, here comes Perkins, that motherfucker... Sure don't waste any time at the FBI," Hank grumbles, us looking over at the man of conversation.
I glance at my watch, knowing that I don't have much time left. I promised to return to Jericho in a few hours, and I intend on keeping it.
"I hate to cut this short, but I need to go. This isn't over yet, though. I, for one, won't allow it. I'll buy you guys some time," I state, looking to Hank. "Feel free to join me if you'd like."
I spin around and stroll right up to Perkins, Hank hot on my tail after he tells Connor, "Key's on my desk!"
Before Perkins could react, I throw a punch at his face. My hit is so powerful that a crack can be heard from his nose. He stumbles and Hank arrives, shouting as he follows my lead, "Perkins! You fucking cocksucker!"
A cop pulls Hank away, but not me since I've already left after muttering to my technically ex-partner, "Good luck."
If Connor's going to find Jericho, he'll have to do it on his own.
I'm not going to help him destroy my family.
Me not hitting Perkins also wouldn't have changed the outcome, as I know Hank would've done it either way.
I walk out of the station, beginning my trek back to Jericho.
Timeskip - Jericho
I don't know how long it's been, but definitely long enough to know that Connor should be coming soon, if he found out this location.
I'm currently leaning against the wall supporting the staircase, many deviants gathered around televisions as they watch the news or other programs.
My eyes are closed, resting my head back with my arms wrapped around myself.
"Excuse me?" a voice softly calls, as if trying not to disturb me.
My eyelids rise and I meet the eyes of Kara, the deviant I helped save some time back during the street chase.
"Kara?" I inquire, and she nods with a smile. I grin, "I'm glad you made it. How's your kid?"
"She's doing alright," she replies. "I never caught your name?"
"Ah, my apologies." I chuckle, "The name's YN."
"Well, thank you, YN," she says gratefully before tugging me into a hug. Once we part, she gently takes my right elbow, "Do you want to come see Alice and Luther?"
I nod, "Sure thing."
As we head over to them, who are sitting on cooler type things near the fire, I question, "Alice your little girl?"
"Yes, she is."
I feel as if I'm being watched, so I glance around, but don't see anything out of the normal. So I just shrug it off, deciding it's nothing to be worried about.
We reach the pair and Luther stands.
"Guys, this is YN. YN, this is Luther and Alice."
I shake hands with the man as I tell them, "It's nice to meet you both."
When I go to shake Alice's hand, she pulls me into a hug instead. I wrap my arms around her small frame, her muttering to my shoulder, "Thank you for helping us."
I smile a little as we break apart, brushing some of the hair out of her face before taking a step back, "It was my pleasure, Alice."
