chapter 27

Salem just sat down, got comfortable and watched over his friend. He watched her sleep for the better part of an hour before he nodded off as well. A few hours had passed by before he began to stir slightly. He had been nudged by the dragon. As he mumbled in his sleep, in a deep dream state. She then let out a loud growl and he jumped up jolting from the sound. He looked around and then remembered where they were and why.

"Thank you. How long have you been awake?" He asked the dragon.

"Only a few minutes."

"Oh good. I take it you are well rested and ready to continue?"

The dragon nodded as the two of them headed down the long wooden ladder. When they reached the bottom it had lead them to a long dark pathway. They slowly followed the path until they had gotten used to it. A few miles down from them they heard something. He walked a little faster so he could make out the sound. It was a voice. A woman's voice. He stopped for a moment and listened for the sound again. He froze for a moment.

"What's wrong?" Whispered the dragon.

"I know that voice. I think it's Pandora. I think we may have found her." He whispered back.

"Then lets go get her and go home." The dragon whispered back to him.

Salem nodded as they headed further down the left path, listening intently for her. He put his ear against the wall when without warning it collapsed. The warlock and the dragon fell through it, falling thirteen feet down and landing with a hard thump. When they got up from the fall he noticed a long hallway. They followed it until they reached a dungeon room. Quickly he pulled a dagger from his magical bag, just in case they ran into anyone who would do them harm. When he got half way through the room, he saw someone in a dark corner, chained to the floor.

"Pandora, is it really you?" He asked almost in disbelief.

"Is it you? I'm not dreaming again?" She asked, aprehensive that is was just wishful thinking, again.

"No, you're not dreaming. Kadrid came with me to find you." He reassured her.

"He said you'd never come for me. He told me to just give up." Pandora replied.

"Who told you that?" Salem demanded.

"Braydin, the half demon who kidnapped me."

"Where is the demon now?" He asked with importance.

"I don't know. He doesn't stay here, just checks on me a few times a day." She replied leaning on him for support.

"Good then we can get these chains off of you and get out of here." He replied.

"I've tried, these things won't come off." She told him flatly.

"Don't forget, I brought a fire breathing dragon with me." He replied with a sly grin.

Her soft delicate face turned crimson red, slightly embarassed that she didn't make that connection on her own.

"Pandora honey stand as far back as these chains will allow you." He instructed her before turning to his trusty dragon. The sorceress nodded, doing exactly as he had instructed.

"Kadrid a little help, please?"

The dragon nodded before stepping to the side of him and letting loose a small fireball that burned the chains, setting free the enslaved sorceress.

Freed from the heavy restaints, Pandora wobbled slightly before leaping over to hug both of them.

"Thank you so much, I never thought I'd see either of you again." She told them nearly in tears.

"Did that demon fellow ever say why he kidnapped you?" Salem asked, curious as to what was going on with the whole ordeal.

"He said at one point he had been hired by another to kidnap me to get to you." Pandora told him.

"That's really wierd. I don't know anyone, or at least no one that would need to go to this extreme to find me." He told her with a puzzled look.

"I think we had better go before the hybrid demon guy returns." Kadrid suggested to them.

"Yes, I agree with you on that one. Let's get out of here." Pandora replied, more than happy to leave the dungeon room.
