chapter 35
chapter 35 tiny winged critters
"Salem what are those things?" The dragon asked.
"What do you see?" He asked, unsure as to what she had meant.
"Over there near the deep purple boulder." The dragon told him.
"That enlarged rock is over fifteen miles away from us. I can't tell what you're seeing."
"From here they look like very small winged beings. I can't exactly tell, they're not gargoyles but a clse resemblance." Kadrid explained to them.
"I wonder what they could be, possibly some sort of hybrids?" Pandora guessed.
"That's a good possibility, we shall have to see when we get there." Salem told them both.
The three of them picked up the pace, going much faster than before as their curiosity had started getting to them. The warlock as well as the sorceress wanted to know what the dragon's sharp eyes had seen that they didn't. When the three of them had gotten close enough and reached the dark purple boulder they saw these very small winged creatures less than half the size of an average looking gargoyle.
"What are those?" Pandora asked in a slight whisper, fascinated.
"I don't think I've ever seen those before, to be honest I don't know." He admitted to her.
Kadrid just stared at the creatures in awe. They were adorable. They looked like some kind of dwarf gargoyles. They had large bright as the sun orange eyes, floppy looking ears and tiny little fangs. The creatures skin appeared to be scales, much like that of a dragon or fish, the scales were in diffrent shades of grey and earth tone brown. She wanted to get closer, to meet these creatures that had her undivided attention but she also didn't want to startle to poor little things either.
"Salem, I want to go talk to them, please?" She asked, just loud enough that the two creatures turned around.
They looked up and froze instantly. It wasn't everyday that they saw a huge dragon standing there with two people, staring at them. They just stood there with their tiny jaws hanging open.
"Hello there, don't worry I wouldn't harm you. I wouldn't harm anyone, I promise." Kadrid told them in a bright and happy tone.
The two creatures stepped backward. They didn't say a word, just stared at her with wide eyes, nearly scared witless. They were afraid to move.
"Hi there, I'm Salem a warlock." He introduced himself, trying to be polite. The two creatures just stared at him for a long moment. Glaring at them finally one of the creatures spoke.
"What do you want?" The little creature spat at them.
"We are so sorry for the intrusion, my dragon here wanted to meet you and was wondering what kind of creatures you happen to be." Salem explained, hoping to smooth over any ill will.
"Is that all you want?" The other creature asked firmly.
"Yes, that's it."
"Fine then. We are hybrid goblin faries. There aren't many of us in existance." The second one informed them.
Ten seconds later the two leaped into the air and flew off, annoyed by the unwanted visitors.
"Those were definetley some strange little creatures. " Pandora stated, breaking the silence.
"Yes they were. Come now let's keep moving." Salem advised them.
The three of them continued on until they reached the edge of the forest. They strolled through a small town that seemed to be abandoned. Once they got through the ghost town, they found another village and passed through it as quickly as they could. Twenty five miles into the next forest, the dragon spoke up.
"Could we possibly take a short rest, my paws are killing me after all this walking."
"Anything you wish, dragon. A nice short rest sounds good to me." The warlock replied.
Kadrid stopped and looked around the forest until she found a perfect spot to rest a while. She spun into a circle, plopped down and curled up taking her usual short cat nap. Salem and Pandora sat down a good six feet away as not to disturb the sleeping dragon. They found a good sized pale moon willow tree to rest under. They leaned against the trunk of the large tree.
"What should we do first when we return?" Salem asked the sorceress.
"I think we deserve a large bottle of wine when we get back, including your heroic dragon." She replied.
"I happen to agree with you on that one, but we still have a long way to go before we get there."
"I figured that much on my own." She pointed out to him.
"How long are you going to let her sleep?"
"A while, I think she really needs it."
"I'd have to agree with you. The poor dear has been over worked because of me." Pandora replied with guilt hanging in the air like a thick fog.
"You're worth every step of the journey."
"Thank you so much. I just don't like putting the poor dragon through so much. I'm sure she's ready to drop from all of this." Pandora told him.
"It probably has her worn out but she's young and she really loves you." Salem commented.
"I love her too, she's so much more to me than just my friend."
"I can tell that you are really good to her." He replied.
"Do you think we'll make it pretty far today?" The sorceress inquired.
"It all depends on how fast we move and how Kadrid is feeling. Why do you ask?"
"I just want to get back out of these strange places and put all of this to rest."
"I can understand feeling that way about it." Salem replied to her.
The warlock and the sorceress sat there under the pale moon willow, lost in a world only the two of them could fully understand. They sat there just the two of them talking and laughing together as the next couple of hours slipped away. Neither of them noticed the lapse of time. That was until a certain winged creature began to clear her throat to get their attention.
