Henry tapped his foot on the stone floor of the office.

They had found out that the girl had been abused by her parents, and that her uncle, enraged by their actions, had killed them and then taken his own life.

Henry was shocked.
Why, why would anyone do that to a child?

He leaned forward and asked quietly, "Would I be allowed to adopt her?"

The officer hesitated a bit then answered, "Most likely, yes. It would be much better for the kid."

Henry nodded in agreement.
"I'll sort the paperwork out tomorrow. Can I take her with me now?"

"Yes, yes you can. She'll be safe with you."

Henry smiled and got up. After shaking the officer's hand, he walked out the room and knelt in front of the girl.

"How about you live with me, huh?"

She smiled and clapped her hands together.

"Ooh, yes please!" She looked down, "My name's Jasmine by the way." She mumbled.

"That's a very pretty name Jasmine." Henry stood and held her hand. "I'm gonna be your new father, Jasmine."

She looked up at him asking, "Forever and ever?"

Looking down, Henry paused for a moment, thinking.
I've always wanted to be a father.

"Forever and ever."

The actor and the girl walked home hand in hand, with the dog bouncing around for joy.
