Chapter 8

We had been walking for about a half an hour when we finally reached the club. George let go of my hand and opened the door for me. I walked in, George right behind me, to find a somewhat modern, but fancy room filled with fancy tables and chairs, velvet curtains, and an enormous dance floor.

George payed for us both and then we reserved a table just for the two of us. The room was filled with people. They were dancing, laughing and talking with their friends. I had never felt so alone in such a crowded room before.

I put my handbag on our table, then turned to George. He held out his hand. "May I have this dance?" He asked in a suave manor. I giggled and smiled slightly as I took his hand. "I would be delighted to dance with you."

George lead me to the dance floor and placed his right hand on my waist, holding my hand in his left and entangling our fingers. I placed my left hand on his forearm, and we began to dance slowly.

I looked up at George. I was still a bit nervous. "I feel so out of place here. Like I don't belong. Everyone and everything, including you, belongs here except for me," I whispered. George shook his head slightly. "If anything's out of place, it's everyone else, not you."

I looked down a bit. "Everyone here seems so perfect and proper," I whispered, closing my eyes. "And everything here is so elegant and beautiful. I'm none of those things. I don't belong here..." George, lifted my head up with his hand and looked into my eyes. "I don't care what everyone else thinks about you. You're the most beautiful and wonderful girl in the world. And no one's perfect. But you're perfect to me, and I love you. Please don't forget that, sweetheart."

I nodded, still not fully convinced, and we continued dancing. We danced for three hours straight, and after we sat at our table talking and drinking champagne. George looked up at the clock across the room. It was almost midnight. He stood up and held out his hand for me. "You still up for that walk I promised?" George asked softly. I smiled and took his hand, picking up my bag in the other. "Of course."
