Chapter One
The hourglass was placed and the sand began trickling down grain after grain. Perspiration creasing her eyebrows as she concentrated on the task at hand. Like a flash of lightning and at the speed of thunder her hands moved and switched pieces before you could even comprehend what was happening. An overwhelmingly stunned silence occupied the room they sat in as she looked up. Finished before the sands of time ticked off.
"How in mother nature's soil-" Alex began as she held her head in her hands and stared at the chess board before looking back up at her friend in disbelief and awe.
Indie only smirked in response, "Time is a tricky thing, chess is like quick sand. Do as your instincts say or drown trying to figure it out"
"What is it with you and time?"
"What it is with you and losing."
Before Alex could let what Indie said sink in, Indie dashed out the door and was long out of sight as the girl's laughed and chased each other away.

"Is this seat taken?"
"Does it look married?"
The previous voice looked confused at her question, "I was trying to joke. no, it's not "taken", as single as me" she replied before finally setting her gaze off of the paper she was writing on to meet his gaze.
"Haha" he replied flatly before seating himself down, "What's your name?"
"Donald Trump" she mimicked his flat tone continuing the homework which she had forgotten to do at home.
"ahh right. Although wouldn't that be President Trump now?" he mocked trying to not let the joke die. She smirked before replying.
"urgh. I hate morning reminders." Which set the duo into a burst of hysterics before the shrill sound of the bell signaled the teacher's arrival.

Alice sat on the stool staring blankly at the cashier ahead remembering the conversation he had earlier today in school with some girl he didn't know. He wondered plenty about her. Like why would she hide such an awesome personality behind a curtain of dark brown bangs? Why had he just gotten to know her and plenty more.
Her deep brown eyes flooded his vision as a drool escaped his lips without his knowledge. He seemed to be in a daze, in his own world before a cough broke through his bubbles and made him fall of onto the floor.
"ALICE!" his mother shouted slightly concerned for the boy's mental health, "I've been calling you for 30 minutes and you stared straight into the cash counter like you were trying to burn holes into." she sternly said before pausing and composing herself again.
"I will not tolerate burning of holes, this is an ice cream shop! Things need to be cool around here. Please understand, I don't like heating my temper. Ruins my make up and the vibe" she said before stalking off to go check on the labels. A few moments later, the door opened and entered Reece Mathews, his lifeline and best friend.
"Sup? Why'd you look so red?"
"You just missed all that heat"
He shrugged not bothering to get involved as he grabbed a spoon and dug into his favorite flavor, seemingly only here for the food. Alice rolled his eyes.
Another boring day in his life. Oh how he wished for some spice and flavoring, too bad they didn't have red chili ice cream yet!
