Chapter One

Hi everyone. So  I finally came up with a title & made a cover for the sequel. BTW, if you haven't read book #1, The Golden Emerald, then you're probably going to be very confused because this is the sequel.

Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter, JK Rowling does. But the characters you do not recognize, those are the ones I created. Don't forget to leave a review!

Chapter 1: The Psychic

Second Year

It's been almost two months since I've left Hogwarts, and these two months have been torture. Just as I imagined, I've been stuck in my room, except for meals, all day. Although this summer I have been getting letters from my friends, but then again they mainly wrote about how amazing their summers has been so far. My extremely intelligent friend, Dasha Scott, wrote in her letter that it was winter in Australia right now, so her family and she took a vacation to Brazil. Now, she has a boyfriend, Zane Kurtis, the Australian boy they sat with on the train. Eowyn said similar things going on in her life. She wrote that it was very rainy in Ireland and she took a few trips to Paris. Eowyn also mentioned that she was now dating Aidan Dwyer, the Irish friend of Zane. How perfect for them right? Not that I'm not happy, I just hate being stuck somewhere for a long period of time. I got a letter from Harry, although it was short and he mentioned he wasn't really allowed to be sending letters. I guess we're both having rotten summers. Hermione wrote to me as well, it was a very long and detailed letter about how she's having a rough time deciding on which classes to take next year. Hermione said that she's extremely sad that we have very few slots. Ron sent a letter with newspaper clipping attached of him and his family in Egypt, apparently they won a trip.

Jacob Ryfeld, my best friend, wrote to me the most. He kept reminding me that I could come stay at any time. Jake was the first friend I made at Hogwarts, he introduced me to Gabe, Cal, and Nico on my first day as well. He's gonna be a fifth year this year and I'm only going to be a second year. I knew it was a big difference but he was like an older brother to me. The age different didn't seem to really bother anyone. What did bother people though was the fact that he's a Gryffindor and I'm a Slytherin. Apparently it wasn't very normal to befriend 'the enemy'. I've broken that law too many times though last year.

I sat back on my small bed, which was really just a mattress on the floor. I looked out the window of the tower and saw the same boring scenery as usual. When a black dot caught my eye, I knew it was Mia! Mia was my black owl I had Silvius buy secretly for me when I got back so that I could send letters to my friends. I had to hide her though because I wasn't allowed to have an owl at home. She lived in the woods outside of my house. Luckily she could come to Hogwarts with me this year and live in the Owlery. I opened my window and Mia flew in carrying the daily Prophet. I subscribed the day I got home so that I didn't loose touch with the wizarding world. "Thanks Mia," I said softly. "I forgot that it was mail day." I scratched her head, gave her some of my leftover food, and she flew off.  I flipped open the paper and read title on the first cover.

 BLACK STILL AT LARGE

Quickly I read the article. This can't be good. A prisoner escaped from Azkaban? Now that's unheard of. I hope it doesn't change anything at Hogwarts. I'm sure people can't 'remain calm' about something like this. Honestly, I don't know a single person who'd remain calm after they've heard there's a murder on the loose! I heard footsteps coming up the stairway. I chucked the Daily Prophet into a hole in my wall and placed the picture in front of it. A few of the stones in the wall loosened and I placed a picture frame over the hole. I kept everything I didn't want them to find in there. I heard pounding on my door. "Scarlett!" Elvira, my thirteen year old sister shouted. "It's dinner time. Hurry up!" I heard her walk back down the stairs. I slowly made my way down the steps, passing a house elf or two on my way. I walked into the kitchen. Now, our kitchen table was meant to hold twenty people, I sat alone at the end of one side while the rest of my family sat at the opposite end. Silvius, my actually kind brother, sat in the middle. A house elf brought a tray over to me.

It was awkwardly quiet as usual, except for the occasion brag Elvira, Dane, or Avelina would bring up. "I can't wait to go back to school," Elvira drawled. "This year I'm going to try out for Seeker."

"Nice," I added sarcastically. "And you'll fail like the year before that, and the year before that..."

"Silence!" My father Desmond yelled from the other end. Elvira was giving me a death glare from her seat.

"I'd like to see you try to make a Quidditch team," Elvira spoke up.

"Already did," I replied with a smirk.

"Liar, there is no way you'd ever make a team, you don't even know how to play."

"I do too!" I said defensively. "I play Chaser on my house team, we would have won too if the school wasn't being attacked by a monster last year."

"Liar." She rolled her eyes. My parents most definitely knew what happened last year because of work and the notice they got from the school, but they sure as hell didn't tell my siblings. They didn't want them to think I accomplished anything or did something right for once. I was sure Elvira knew though, it was all over the papers!

"Are you kidding me?" I yelled to her. "You saw the paper! There was a basilisk in the school, it almost killed me! And..."

"Enough!" My father bellowed again glaring at me. I rolled my eyes and went back to eating, stupid Elvira. I hope she did make the Quidditch team so she could go fall off her broom. My mother sat there with a strict look her face, her cold blue eyes showing no emotion, it was as if she was an empty corpse. Dane began rambling on about how he plans to get all O's in Dark Arts. Avelina complained about needing new robes and school supplies. Then it got quiet again. "So," Silvius said, "Anything exciting going on at Hogwarts this year?" he asked me kindly.

"Nope," I replied. "Just a mass-murderer being somewhere on the loose in the area." Everyone stopped talking and looked at me. Oh Merlin, I was not supposed to say that... They didn't know that I got the Daily Prophet, I should not have said that. Then again, I had a habit of saying things that I shouldn't.

"No there isn't," Dane added coldly with a sneer on his face. "How would you have known that?"

"I'm psychic," I said quickly without thinking. Crap, now how am I supposed to explain that? They all looked at me oddly but still held the same sneers.

"You aren't psychic!" Avelina said and laughed. "First you claim to be a Parsletongue and now you claim to be psychic?"

"I am a Parsletongue! That's how I was able to hear the basilisk!" I shouted at her while rolling my eyes. "Are you missing brain cells or something because I thought that part was clear!"

"But there is no mass murderer on the loss!" Dane pointed out.

"Yes there is!" I said. "I saw it! In a...vision..." I looked over at my father. "Owl your friend Malfoy and he'll tell you the same thing!" My father ignored me and continued eating his food.

"You're lying!" Elvira yelled. We all began arguing and shouting at one another.

"That's it!" My father yelled. "Scarlett up to your room! Don't come down until you're called!" I stood up quickly pushing my chair away and quickly stormed up to the tower.

Stupid family not believing me, I wasn't lying! Well...maybe about the psychic part, but that had to be done or I would have been in bigger trouble. I hate when people didn't believe my lies! There was only three weeks left until I went back to school, but there was no way I would survive here any longer. I took out a piece of parchment and my quill.

Hey Jake,

I'm finally allowed to leave this prison. I'll be there somewhere around 1 a.m.... which is 7 p.m. for you. See you then!

Carlie

I whistled for Mia who flew from the woods. I tied the letter to her leg. "Wait for me there!" I said to her, somehow she always understands. It was time for me to get packing.

I waited until the clock on the wall hit the one, that's when I crept downstairs with my trunk. I used a small packing spell, nothing detectable, so that I could fit everything into my trunk. I walked quietly into my living room. I felt bad leaving without saying goodbye to Silvius, but I think he'd understand. Taking a bit of Floo powder, I threw it into the fireplace. "Niihau Resort!" I shouted into the fire, who cares if everyone woke up now? I'd be gone by then. I stepped into the fire with my trunk and felt that familiar spin.

Jake lived on the Hawaiian island Niihau, it was the smallest of the islands. His mansion used to be a resort on the beach before his family bought it. I landed into the fire place with a crash and roll, ouch. "Still as clumsy as always," I heard someone say. I looked up and saw Jake standing there. He helped me get back onto my feet and then I hugged him. "Glad you could finally make it!"

"Thanks for letting me come," I said looking around. "Wooh, this place is amazing!" I realized that the room I was standing in must have been the lobby. It was huge! The walls were mostly made of glass and it was very open. You could feel and smell the sea breeze. There were no dark colors anywhere, everything was painted pastels and there were palm trees growing inside the house. I also noticed that it was extremely light out considering that it was seven here. It was something I've never seen before.

"Thanks," Jake replied with a shrug, "My parents are outside, the guys are on their way over." We walked outside, if I thought the house was amazing it had nothing on the beach. I could spend all day out here. I couldn't believe he actually lived here. We stepped onto the porch. I saw a lady lying out on a beach chair. She must have been somewhere in her thirties because she was very young looking. She had the same tan skinned, dark brown hair, and brown eyes as Jake.

"Hey, you must be Carlie," she said in a kind voice, she already seemed like the type of mother who was more your friend. "Welcome to Hawaii!" She sort of reminded me of Eowyn a bit with her happy tone.

"Thanks for letting me stay Mrs. Ryfeld," I said nicely.

"Call me Nellie," she added while pulling her large sunglasses down.

"That's my dad," Jake said pointing out to the water at a man who looked even more like Jake than his mom, he was surfing out on the waves. "He's big on surfing. That's why we moved out here in the first place." Her dad waved when he saw us and still managed to keep his balance. "My parents were tired of all the Wizarding drama, so they came here to find peace."

"Scars!" I heard someone call from behind, I turned around and saw Nico, Gabe, and Cal approaching us. Oh damn, the nickname wasn't forgotten but I couldn't hide my smile. "You finally made it!" They all hugged me and started shooting off questions.

"You guys hungry?" Nellie asked and without waiting for an answer walked off towards the house.

I was loving life so much here, I even forgot that I was home less than two hours ago. The house elves cooked up a huge Hawaiian meal complete with fruity drinks. I met Jake's dad, Anthony, who was just as cool as his mom. After dinner Jake showed me to my room. It was very open and had a balcony that over looked the beach. I got a tour around the beach before it got dark and after we lit a campfire. Nico, Gabe, and Cal eventually had to leave. It was getting late anyways so I went off to bed.

The next few days got even better. We went snorkeling off Jake's boat. I was freaked out by all the fish coming up to you at first but then it got better. We swam a lot, I attempted surfing. But after taking a face plant into a pile of sand I quit and tanned for the rest of the day while they were surfing. I talked to Nellie then, I almost forgot that she was a parent by how calm she was acting. It was like nothing bothered her, but in the good way, unlike my mother who just didn't care in general. Campfires were made every night and I even made a necklace out of sea glass. One day we went hiking up a mountain that lead to a waterfall which we all got to jump off of, it was the same feeling as falling off your broom but funnier because you knew that you were going to land and live. This was the best summer yet. Why didn't I have the guts to leave my house sooner?

Anyways, most days were the same relaxing schedule. One day we went into the muggle city which was packed with muggles and their strange inventions. I almost got killed a few times by the yellow moving death traps muggles liked to call 'taxi's'. The best of all was the Quidditch game Gabe got us tickets too. I finally got to see the Fitchburg Finches in person and let me tell you, they were amazing. They ended up winning the game, which Gabe said wouldn't happen anymore in two years when he was seventeen and played keeper against them. I decided that before I went off studying vampires in Romania, I wanted to play chaser on the Fitchburg Finches for a few years. Tomorrow was the day that we would travel to Diagon Alley to get our new school supplies, stay over at the Three Broomsticks, and then finally head to Hogwarts.

"You guys have everything?" Nellie asked us while were lined up around the fireplace. Wait, Jake's parents didn't go with him to Diagon Alley? Jake hugged his mother goodbye and told her that we had all that we needed. His father came in and said goodbye to us all, giving us bags full of candy for the trip.

"Alright," Jake said to them. "See you guys over Christmas break." Then he stepped into the Floo network. I went next, and then Gabe, Nico, and Cal followed. We stepped out into Diagon Alley, it was packed. No one was alone, and then I noticed there were signs with the picture of Sirius Black all over the walls. Underneath the picture was a warning to not go out alone, that explains it.

The rest of the morning passed quickly, we got all of our new books and any other school supplies we needed. I took a few, maybe more than a few, Galleons from home before I left. By the time we were finished getting our school supplies, it was around one thirty. I saw plenty of kids from school rushing around to get their supplies, but no sign of Dasha or Eowyn. Seamus and Dean ran by and stopped to talk to the guys. I wasn't listening closely but they were going on about Harry blowing up his aunt? "Wooh!" Gabe almost shrieked, I snapped my head towards him. He looked like he was just petrified, sadly I know what that looks like. I looked over and saw him pointing at the Quidditch shop, his finger trembling.

"Gabe," I laughed. "It's just a Quidditch shop, chill." He then broke out into a sprint knocking over a few little kids over who were gathered by the window. I walked over to see what he was looking at.

"I never thought I'd see one of these in person," Gabe said like he was in a trance as his face was pressed up against the glass. I looked down and saw a broom labeled The Firebolt, it was one of the most amazing broom's I've ever seen. "It's the fastest broom in the world, it's what the Sweetwater All-Stars put an order in months ago for, and it's the best choice for the World Cup. If only I had one..."

"Wow," was all I could say, now I want one. My other broom though is in perfect condition but when I'm in the need for the new one, I might try and get this one.

"I have to go check my vault for extra galleons!" Gabe said quickly backing away from the window and sprinting off towards Gringotts. Cal and Nico followed, they were probably thinking about getting one too.

"Why aren't you going with them?" I asked Jake surprised. "Don't want a new broom?"

"Do you wanna come too?" Jake asked me hopefully. I knew he just didn't want to leave me by myself.

"Nah, you go ahead. I'll meet you guys at the Leaky Cauldron later."

"Okay, see you then," Jake said quickly and took off for Gringotts, he so wanted one.

I began to wander around. I've only been to Diagon Alley once before in my life when I was little. My parents and the family were taking a trip so I was dragged along. I didn't know my way around too well, I took a sharp turn down a narrow alley way. Usually when you see dark and narrow alley ways, you turn around, but I was curious to see where it leads to. I passed a sign that said Entering Knockturn Alley. The sign was really old looking and faded, was that blood on the corner of it? It opened up to a tighter area. It looked like Diagon Alley after years of abandonment. There were people walking, more like floating, around with looks on their faces like they were from another planet. Most of them stared at me as I passed.

I came to a shop called Borgin and Burkes, it looked like a furniture shop but it was very dark and dusty. "Nyx?" I heard a voice say. I automatically recognized the voice. I turned around to be face to face with Draco Malfoy. He definitely changed from the last time I've seen him. He let his hair grow out and he was a lot taller than I was now. I probably would have thought he was even better looking than before, if he wasn't such a jerk that is. "What are you doing here?"

"I could ask you the same question," I responded quickly then replied. He gave me a dry look. "Actually I just wanted to see what this place was."

"You really shouldn't be wandering around here alone," he said glancing at the strange passing people.

"Aww, does somebody care?" I joked sarcastically. "Then what are you doing here alone?"

"I'm not alone," he replied. "My parents are in Borgin and Burkes, who are you here with?"

"No one really," I answered. Were we actually having a normal conversation? "I took the Floo network from Jake's but then I wandered off." He looked like he was about to say something but the door opened and two adults stepped out, they both had the same white-blonde hair and cold grey eyes. I'm guessing they were Draco's parents.

"Draco," the man said in a cool tone. "Who do we have here?" He glanced at me seeing if he could recognize me from anywhere.

"Scarlett Nyx," Draco answered in a lower tone than usual. The man glanced at his wife and then towards me.

"Ah, what a pleasure to finally meet you," he said amused. "The psychic run away." He must have talked to my father, I bit my lip from laughing at the psychic part. Draco glanced at me with a confused look on his face. "Lucius Malfoy," he said holding out his hand and after a few seconds I shook it. "This is my wife Narcissa." She gave me a quick smile that wasn't friendly looking, more fake. "Now what brings you to Knockturn Alley?"

"Curiosity," I replied.

"You mustn't be here alone?" Lucius added.

"I left my friends back in Diagon Alley," I replied. He studied me carefully.

"Ah," he nodded. I didn't like this guy, he seemed on the fake friendly side. That's when you know they have something to hide.

"May I ask where you've been staying? I'm sure your parents are concerned." There was his cool tone again. I wanted to laugh at that, my parents probably asked him to dig out information on where I've been, and not because they've cared, just so they could punish me for it.

"They won't care," I replied. "But I've been staying at my friend's house." I wasn't going to say anymore than that. I'm guessing Lucius noticed because he just nodded.

"Well a beautiful young girl such as yourself shouldn't be wandering around here," Lucius said coolly. I just shrugged at his fake politeness.

"I just came down here to look, I'm going to head back up eventually." He nodded once more.

"Well then," Lucius said. "It was nice meeting you Ms. Nyx." It was all false politeness. I've dealt with people like this before. Him and Narcissa began to walk off. Draco walked passed me.

"Get back to Diagon Alley," he muttered. "See you at school." Then he followed quickly behind his parents.

Did he actually care or was he just being bossy again. Once they were out of sight I took his advice and left, it took a while to find a way back to Diagon Alley but I did. Knockturn Alley just kept getting stranger and stranger as it went, luckily I saw the Leaky Cauldron entrance.
