His cold eyes dared me to do something but I hesitated. Releasing a long sigh, I awkwardly backed away and scratched my neck. The boy was glaring at me with his cold eyes, there was some curiosity present in them and his wand was in mid air.

"Sorry." I muttered, my voice low and cold.

There was a smug smirk on his lips and he raised his head, showing more of his angled jaw bones.

I calmed myself and thought about something else because I didn't want to have quarrels on my very first day.

"We're here." He said, pointing towards a different compartment from the others.

It wasn't transparent or clear, instead it had velvety black curtains which were opaque and didn't show any view of the inside. There was a large tag upon the door which said 'Compartment C'.

I followed the mysterious boy inside and the fresh scent of butter, cakes and tea reached my nose.

I gaped at my surroundings and the weird compartment. There was some sort of party going on, students were either sitting or standing and there was a huge fountain in the middle which strongly smelled of butter.

Mother did mention a little bit about a drink with butter in it.

Some music blasted my ears and I immediately put my hands on my ears, wincing at the loud pitch.

The boy stood next to me with a small scowl on his face, it made him look a bit scary and old. But it disappeared in a flash.

Next, my eyes landed on a man who was swaying his body in the center of the compartment.

He had light brown hair, weird grey eyes and a brown walrus moustache. His large belly was the most prominent feature of all. He looked vaguely familiar to me. I narrowed my eyes and tried to recall when I met that strange man.

Suddenly, the music stopped and everyone's eyes snapped to me. Some were eyeing me with interest and some were scowling. The middle aged man turned towards me and beamed at me.

"You must be Miss. Rosaline Evans! The new addition to our sixth year batch!" He shouted cheerfully. I bit my lip to keep myself from laughing at his retort. A new addition? The students took the cue to start applauding and the weirdo next to me just rolled his eyes.

"Yes sir." I replied, not wanting to sound rude. The man beamed again and clapped his hands together.

"Please be seated, Miss Evans. Thank you Mr. Riddle for escorting our guest here." He chuckled at us. I nodded and walked towards an empty seat, releasing a breath.

"No problem, sir." The boy bowed before the old man, a charming smile upon his lips.

I scrunched my eyebrows in confusion, how can he change his demeanor so quickly? He proceeded towards me and took the seat next to me.

"I will be your potions Professor! Horace Slughorn is the name, eh?" The man cheered, raising a glass of yellow liquid. The whole compartment cheered and applauded whilst I sat, shocked at the sudden announcement.

I nearly choked on my saliva, "Say what?"

The students roared with laughter and even the Riddle boy couldn't conceal a smirk. The professor looked offended and I instantly felt guilty for having offended the poor man.

"I am surprised, sir. What a nice temperament you have!" I fake cheered, smiling at the Professor. In an instant, his face brightened and he let out a laugh and then he smirked.

"You've got your father's sense of humour, missy!"

-

"I am assigned a duty to guide you." He barked at me, anger written on his face.

I rolled my eyes and folded my arms across my chest. We were standing on a deserted street, awaiting the arrival of a carriage.

After we left Slughorn's compartment, he asked Riddle to help me with the directions and all since he was a so called 'prefect'. And I never got to know his full name.

"Can you tell me your name?" I murmured, still not looking at him. I could feel his eyes on me but I didn't look back.

"It's Tom Riddle." The words slipped like dirt from his mouth.

I looked at him and felt pity swirling inside me, his face was blank and his eyes were hard. He was struggling with something so I decided to keep quiet.

"Don't ever pity me, Evans."

Finally, the carriages arrived and I let out a sigh of relief.

-

The carriages were driven by some sort of invisible creatures (I thought so). We reached Hogwarts and I was awed by the beautiful and resplendent view. My mouth hanged open as I took in the castle.

It was ten times more jaw dropping than my parents said. The fact that I only had two years to live here made me feel strangely sad.

A small smile graced my lips as I jumped out of the carriage with Tom.

He was silent the entire way, only talking when necessary and sending me cold glares. I didn't know why he was behaving like that when he just met me.

From what I've seen in Compartment C, he was very much 'prestigious' and 'reputable' for his good manners and polite behavior.

I stood on the ground for a minute, admiring the magnificent castle with awe.

Suddenly, I felt sharp pain in my arm and I winced. Tom held his wand in his long fingers, narrowing his eyes at me.

I glowered at him and cradled my arm, walking towards a huge, iron gate.

I pushed it open, but it remained still. Then my eyes landed on a small metallic lock attached to a chain. I took out my own wand from my satchel and pointed it at the lock on the gate. This will work hopefully.

"Alohamora." I whispered, pointing it at the lock. The lock moved a little but nothing happened.

I punched the lock and turned back, Tom was watching me with amusement in his eyes. I scowled at him.

"It won't work." A voice said. Tom and I turned to look for the source of the voice. I lightened the tip of my wand and faced a man, he looked like he was in his late thirties.

He had a pointed black hat on his head, a few tufts of auburn fell on his forehead. His eyes were electric blue, scrutinising and piercing.

His fashion sense was rather perilous; a long, grey gown and bright purple robes which had stars on them. I scanned his face and it only showed kindness.

"Professor Dumbledore?" I asked timidly, my parents had invested quite a lot of information in my head that I instantly recognised this man.

"Indeed." He did not look the least surprised by the fact that I had recognized him, and he nodded at me.

Tom, on the other hand, was rolling his eyes again much to my annoyance.

It seemed as if he wasn't too fond of him.

-

I was guided inside the castle by Professor Dumbledore and the reputable Tom Riddle himself.

Behind us were some young children, of ages eleven or twelve. They looked frightened and awestruck which made me recall my first day at Durmstrang.

I was rather terrified of the old man who came to fetch me from a cupboard I was hidden in. But that man became my most favorite person after all; my headmaster, Anoèr Poliskoff.

I pushed the thoughts of Durmstrang aside and scanned the marvellous castle. The halls were lit with various candles and the walls supported various paintings and portraits. It was splendid and quite unique, I'd definitely enjoy myself here.

When we reached the Great Hall, I was astonished by the magical ceiling. It showed exactly what was the 'sky'. Next, I was greeted by millions of stares from the students.

There were four long tables in the centre, each bearing a banner of different colours. The first one was of scarlet and gold colour with an image of a lion; the second was of blue and bronze with an image of an eagle on it; the third was of yellow and black with an image of a beaver on it and the last was emerald and silver with an image of a serpent on it.

Probably the houses which mother described in detail.

In an instant, the hall interrupted into whispers and chatter. I followed Professor Dumbledore and stood at the back, awaiting instructions.

"When your name is called, you will go to the stage and sit on that stool and a hat will be placed on your head and your will be sorted into a house. Remember, the Sorting hat's decision is final." Professor Dumbledore explained, eyeing us from his half moon spectacles.

The younger lot nodded and I gave him a curt nod.

Then, he walked up to the stage and took out a scroll and began reading names.

"Wayne, Ela."

A small girl with blonde pigtails walked up to the stage, terror written on her face. She sat on the stool and the hat was placed on her head. For a brief second, it was silent and then:

"HUFFLEPUFF!"

A roar of applause erupted from the second table, which I suspected was the Hufflepuff table. After some time, all of the first years were sorted and I was left alone.

An old man of greying hair stood from his seat and walked towards a stand, he was limping and looked very frail and weak.

"Greeting students! We have amongst us, a new student who will be joining this year's sixth year batch! So let's welcome her! Miss Rosaline Evans!" He squeaked. The hall erupted, once again, into cheers.

I walked towards the stage and sat down on the wooden stool, the hat was placed on my head and I felt whispers in my head.

"Ooh, what do we have here? Another Evanssss. I was waiting for one...such mischievous nature...brains that can do wonders and such bravery...you won't fit in Hufflepuff, Gryffindor or Ravenclaw either! Better be a SLYTHERIN!"

Applause.

I sighed in relief, getting up from the stool and walking over to the emerald and silver table. I was greeted by a few handshakes and smirks, which I returned gladly.

At least father would be happy. I wasn't his blood after all.
