Chapter thirteen

Raven sat in a compartment on the Hogwarts express, with Fred and George. They were waiting for their friend Lee Jordan and for the train to hurry up and leave, which it relented to do, preferring to idle in the train station.

"I wonder what will happen this year?" Raven mused, causing both boys to look at her in confusion.

"What makes you say that?" Fred asked, kicking her lightly in the shin. She glared at him and kicked him back, starting a war between the two, something they had promised Mrs Weasley they wouldn't do.

"Will you two stop that?!" George snapped at them irritably, knowing that if he didn't intervene, one would possibly kill the other.

"Sorry George." Raven apologised, Fred nodded his own apology, not bothering to speak, seeing as she had.

"But seriously, what made you say that?" Fred asked. She sighed and leant back against the wall, making sure to hit the wall, not the window.

"It's just a feeling. I mean, for the past three years something weird has happened, I guess... I guess I'm just expecting it by now." She told them, pouring out her feelings to them.

"Mum and Bill have been dropping hints all summer that something is going to happen." George stated, causing Fred to nod thoughtfully.

"So, the question is what?" Raven asked, George shrugged, but Fred didn't answer for a moment.

"It seems we'll have to find that one out." He said. "Moving on, we've almost perfected the canary creams." The other two laughed at his business-like manner.

"I'm not being the test subject for those again!" Raven laughed as they remembered what had happened the last time, it had been funny, but put her off the product for life. "All we need is a good time to 'accidentally' test them out on the public."

Lee wandered in. The train had been moving for ten minutes already, meaning they had begun to think he had missed the train.

"Where have you been?" Fred and George asked in sync.

"I couldn't find you! What in the world possessed you to choose this compartment?" Lee questioned as he sat down beside George.

"And this is why we don't let you choose the compartment Raven!" Fred scowled at their friend, who shrugged.

"It was the first free one I could find." The girl defended herself from the corner. Whilst the boys began to discuss the quidditch world cup, Raven stared out of the window, mulling over the events of the summer in her head.

Something had changed in Mercury, her friend had started becoming very distant, and he was more closed-up and angry, very, very angry. She had first noticed it when she was talking to her friend Lucas, who was a member of the cast. she'd known him for years, as had Mercury, and she didn't understand why he suddenly didn't like him. She'd seen it again when Fred and George had arrived, and seen it a third time when she'd taken the group on a trip to the theatre.

"Raven! Raven! Raven!" Raven blinked and turned her head from the window to George, who was sat opposite her.

"What?" She asked in confusion.

"We were telling Lee about the new idea we had. The sweets that make you ill. We only have one clear outline though, the sickness pastilles." Fred said. Raven frowned.

"Puking pastilles sounds better." She mumbled absent mindedly, not really bothering about what they were talking about.

"She's right." Lee agreed with her, causing her to snort in a very undignified way, they looked at her in alarm.

"I'm always right." She stated, fully breaking out of her thoughts and rejoining her friends.

"And she's back, where did you go Raven my dear?" George asked her jokingly.

"I dunno." She answered wearily, before her thoughts began to drag her back out of reality, not like she was complaining about it.

"And she's gone again." She heard Fred say, before she escaped reality completely. She began to wonder if Cedric would tutor her in Herbology again, she had enjoyed their study sessions, they always had a laugh, on top of working that is.

In the end, Raven fell asleep.

She only woke up when Fred kicked her in the shin, she kicked back, causing another war, which was brought to an end by George's disappointed glare.

"Ow." She murmured, carefully opening her eyes and glaring at Fred, who smiled.

"Anything from the trolley dear?" The trolley witch questioned. Raven shook her head.

"I'm good thanks." She smiled at the woman, who nodded and walked off to the next compartment. Raven sighed and sat up slightly, in the hopes of finding a more comfortable position, she was unsuccessful in that, so she turned over, leaning her head against the window, and settled back down to sleep. Allowing the gentle hum of the train sing her to sleep.

She awoke a few times over the journey, but didn't let on that she had awoken. She didn't want the boys to know that the nightmares had become more frequent. She had figured out a way to stop herself from screaming, but there wasn't anything she could do about the crying, or the talking. Sleeping on the train, wasn't really what she wanted to do, but she needed the extra sleep, and despite all of the restless periods of the journey, she did get the much needed sleep that she desired. She had begun to be able to tell the difference between the dreams that would become true, and those that would not. She knew that the teachers would be keeping an eye on her, they seemed to understand what was going on with her, perhaps even better then she did herself. She hadn't told her friends that either.

After a period of being unable to sleep, it had only been around an hour, but had seemed like forever. She was beginning to drift off once more, happily forgetting her troubles.
