Chapter twenty five

The first task was nearing, but there was still no news about what was going to happen. Raven was sat outside in the dimming sunlight with Harry, talking to the boy, who looked scared to death.

"So, heard anything about the task?" She asked him. He shook his head.

"Nothing, I don't know how I'm going to do this Raven." He confessed to her. She smiled at him and patted his shoulder.

"Harry, stop doubting yourself. You're Harry Potter, the boy who lived, whatever they throw at you, you can handle, because you have got this." She told him, feeling like his swimming team coach.

"Thanks Raven." He smiled at her.

"Hey, why don't we go to the library and look up what has happened in past tournaments?" She suggested. He laughed.

"You? In the library!" He joked. She looked offended.

"Excuse me! I do do other things then prank people you know!" She exclaimed, he looked at her for a moment, before bursting into another round of of laughter, she followed suit.

When the laughter subsided, Harry nodded. "Let's go." He stood up and offered her his hand. She took it and he pulled her up.

"What a gentleman you are Mr Potter." She joked. He shook his head at her.

"Thanks Raven." He said as they reached the door that led into the castle.

"So where are Ron and Hermione anyway?" She asked. He let out a sigh, causing her to look at him in concern.

"Ron isn't talking to me because he thinks I put my name in the goblet of fire and Hermione is probably with him." Harry explained. She sighed.

"Harry! Why didn't you tell me? I would have kicked his butt!" She exclaimed.

"I just don't get what his deal is." Harry sighed, the girl nodded, knowing that if he told her all this he would feel better.

"Harry, I think he's jealous." She told him.

"What? But he's my best friend." Harry frowned.

"All people get jealous Harry, and you do get a lot of attention, maybe he thought that he deserved some attention, but then you get put in the tournament and he can't handle his jealousy." She said.

"So, what do I do?" He asked. She smiled.

"Well, he might come around, and realise what an idiot he's being." She said.

They had reached the library by now, and were 'shushed' by Madame Pince as soon as they entered. The found a table near the back of the room and started digging through a pile of history books that Raven had gathered.

"They're different every time! This is impossible!" Harry sighed. Raven had to agree with him.

"I mean how do they think up so many different tasks?" She questioned.

"I don't know, I struggle making things up for divination." Harry sighed again and closed the book he was reading.

Raven let out a sigh, one even louder the Harry's. "I give up, let's go to the lake. Maybe Neville will have some ideas." She suggested. Harry frowned.

"How do you know he's at the lake?" He asked. She smiled.

"He's always there, looking for plants or water bugs, or whatever it is he does." she answered. he laughed.

"Let's go then." He grinned back, she nodded and got up, scraping her chair along the floor, earning herself a glare from Madame Pince as they left.

they found Neville, Reece and Luna wandering through the shadows, and whilst Neville didn't really have an answer to their question, he invited them to look through a book he had, on water plants, as that might give them some idea of things that Harry could have to fight, as some of the plants were extremely dangerous and would try to eat you. whilst Harry sat under a tree, flicking through the book, Raven joined the group in wandering up and down the shallows of the lake, he was looking at the plants that lived beneath the water, and she was giggling in amusement as the giant squid came up to say hello to her.

"Hello my old friend." She greeted it as it grabbed her wrist with a tentacle. it didn't reply, but swam alongside her, holding her arm as though they were strolling through the park. she could barely stop laughing.

"A match made in heaven." Reece laughed, Raven pulled a face and flicked water at him.

"that squid is weird." Neville commented. she glared at him jokingly.

"Hey! don't dis Stevey!" she yelled, pouting at the younger boy sadly.

"Stevey?" He asked, she smiled.

"He deserves a name." she answered. 'stevey' patted her on the arm with another tentacle, still holding onto her wrist with another.

"All things deserve a name." Luna added dreamily.

Raven turned to check on Harry to see Hermione talking to him, and Ron skulking in the background.

"Coward!" she yelled at Ron, before pretending to be in deep conversation with the confused group.

Ron shot her a glare, but she didn't see it, instead she was explaining her strange friendship with the squid. Ginny walked over to them, laughing in amusement at the sight of Raven and Stevey.

"Your brother is an idiot." Raven stated plainly, Ginny sighed.

"I know, but he won't listen, he's actually quite stubborn." She said, ignoring Ron as he told her they were going.

"I can tell." Raven agreed. Harry walked over to them, he seemed confused.

"Hagrids looking for me, i'd better go and find out what he wants." He told them. She nodded.

"Do you want me to go with you?" She asked. Harry shook his head with a glance towards the squid.

"I think you're already occupied there Raven." He commented. She patted the squid on the head.

"At least I offered." She shrugged. Harry walked away, and Ginny, Neville and Raven were left to wander the shallows again.
