Chapter 10
Declan left a little time after that with a promise that he would come back and check on me, and I was left alone in my new room.
I sat on the edge of the floor near the bed with my head leaning on it. My eyes were closed, and I enjoyed the peace and quiet of the house, even though I had a feeling that it wouldn't last long.
My breathing became even, and I slowly started to doze off but was jerked awake when there was a knock at my door. I turned in that direction and grew tense, my eyes opened.
"It's me," a deep male voice said when I didn't say a word, and I had a feeling that it was Justin. He cleared his throat, and I had a feeling that he shifted on his feet. "Can I come in?" He paused and cleared his throat again. "Please."
"Uhhhhh..." I said and blinked, not sure why he was here and silently praying that he wouldn't send me away because he didn't like what Jill did. "Yes, yes, of course. Come in."
I silently cursed myself for sounding so hesitant and silently prayed to the Gods that he wouldn't ask why I was. I stayed seated on the floor, not bothering to get up and greet him, even though a part of me wanted to since it was the "right" thing to do.
Justin opened the door and walked into my new room. He looked around the bedroom before he looked at me, frowning, and I bit my lip nervously, not knowing why he was frowning.
Justin cleared his throat and shifted on his feet. "Now, why are you on the floor?" he asked and dipped his head in greeting, and I shrugged and grimaced. "Is it comfortable?"
"It's a lot better than what we had to sit on at the house, yes," I replied hesitantly and cleared my throat while I shifted on my butt. "We usually sat on the floor there or in the beds they provided us, but the beds weren't that good and felt like we were sleeping on bricks." I shrugged and grimaced.
Justin slowly nodded before he gestured to the little sitting area that I had in my room. "Why don't we sit over there so that we both can be comfortable, yes?" he asked and raised an eyebrow.
I hesitated but nodded. "Ok," I said and started to stand. I bit my lip to keep myself from groaning out in pain when my side started to ache, and I silently cursed myself for having to deal with bruised ribs.
"Are.. you ok?" Justin asked and took a step towards me with furrowed brows, and I tensed but didn't back away because the bed was behind me. He stopped moving and held his hands up as if to say that he wasn't going to hurt me.
I nodded. "I am," I confirmed, even though I wasn't. I cleared my throat and shifted on my feet. "I have a few bruised ribs that were pulled when I stood, but they will heal and be fine."
Justin frowned but nodded, and I had a feeling that he didn't believe me. He stayed silent and watched me stand fully, studying me and trying to find secrets that even I didn't know I had.
When I was in a standing position, he gestured to the seating area again and started to walk that way, and I followed him, praying that he wouldn't kick me out of the house like I thought he would.
I didn't want to go back...
"Sit," Justin said and gestured to the seats. He waited until I sat down before he sat down in front of me. He cleared his throat and shifted in his seat while he placed one leg over the other. "Now," he said and raised an eyebrow in question, "what are you hiding? Why do your eyes change colors like that?"
I bit the inside of my lip and schooled my features so that he couldn"t tell that I was nervous. I didn't say a word while I stared at him, trying to decide if I could trust him or not.
Not yet... something in me seemed to say, and I blinked but didn't say a word, silently agreeing with whatever the voice said. Not until you get to know him a little better...
Justin shifted in his seat again and raised an eyebrow, clearing his throat. "Well?" he inquired when I didn't say anything. He leaned forward and rested his elbows on his knees. "What are you hiding?"
"A lot," I admitted and shrugged while I grimaced before I cleared my throat. "However, I am not comfortable discussing it with you because I have a feeling that you are hiding stuff from me, too."
Justin blinked and blinked again and leaned back in his seat. "Touché," he said after a moment's pause. He studied me for a second before he cleared his throat and shifted in his seat, trying to get comfortable. "Do you believe in the supernatural?" he asked and raised an eyebrow in question. "Do you believe in a world of unknown creatures that you have never seen before?"
I pressed my lips into a thin line before I slowly nodded, hesitating a little because I had no idea why he wanted to know. "I do," I confirmed before I cleared my throat and shifted in my seat. "Why?"
Justin didn't respond and blinked again. He wanted me to elaborate; I could tell, but I didn't say a word while I stared at him, silently wondering why he was curious about me believing in the Supernatural world.
He sighed and moved a hand through his hair before he cleared his throat and shook his head. "There are going to be some closer to you than you have noticed before."
I raised an eyebrow in question. "What do you mean?" I asked while I cocked my head and studied him. "What do you mean by that?"
Justin didn't say a word and shook his head. He moved a hand through his hair before he sighed and cleared his throat, shifting in his seat.
I pressed my lips into a thin line and bit back an annoyed sigh, not liking his silence for some reason. "Are there Supernatural creatures near here, Justin?" I asked, trying but failing to make sure that my annoyance with him didn't appear in my voice.
Justin didn't respond but frowned, and I couldn't help but silently curse myself because I knew that he could hear the annoyance in my voice that I so desperately tried to hide.
I bit back a small sigh and shook my head before I pursed my lips in annoyance. "I am sorry," I said, my voice barely above a whisper, even though a part of me was not sorry. "I didn't like the silence that happened after I asked you something." I hesitated before I cleared my throat and shifted in my seat. "It made me feel as if my question wasn't worth it."
I shrugged and grimaced before I cleared my throat and shifted in my seat. "Sometimes the silence after I ask a question means that whatever happened has some bad news tied to it, and it's news that I need to know to make sure that nothing worse happens to me or to my group."
Justin slowly nodded and set his jaw, and a look of pain flashed through his eyes. He didn't say a word while he looked toward the door before he looked at me again, slowly blinking and lost in thoughts.
I bit back a small sigh while I moved a hand across my face and shook my head. "So, are there Supernatural creatures near here?" I asked and raised an eyebrow in question.
Justin blinked and looked at the door before he looked at me again a second time before he cleared his throat and shifted in his seat.
He started to look like a predator, a wolf with its prey, and I couldn't help but be slightly unnerved, even though I made sure that my face couldn't show it. "What if there are?" he asked while he slowly cocked his head and studied me with wolf-like eyes. "Would you be scared?" He sneered, baring his teeth.
I bit back a small snort and back an eye roll while I shook my head, biting my lip and ignoring the warning bells that went off in my head because I knew that he wouldn't hurt me but was testing me, for some reason. "No," I said while I shifted in my seat across from him, getting comfortable. "I wouldn't be scared. I would be cautious, but I wouldn't be scared."
"And why not?" he asked while he raised an eyebrow in question. He leaned back and the predatory part of himself slowly started to disappear, and I was able to ignore the warning bells more. He studied me some more, and I made sure I kept my face blank and neutral.
"Because I have been through a lot in my past seventeen years," I said while I shrugged and grimaced. "Mind you, I have been through a lot of abuse and pain. Nothing can scare me after having to hear multiple cries of pain and fear each night and having to be the strong one, the protector for those who are afraid."
He slowly nodded and blinked, and worry filled his eyes. He didn't say a word before he cleared his throat and leaned back in his seat.
I sighed and shook my head before I cleared my throat and leaned back in my seat. "So, no, I wouldn't be scared if there are Supernatural Creatures near me or if I see them."
Justin slowly nodded and cleared his throat again, and a bit of relief flashed through his eyes. "Of course," he said and he stood, and I raised an eyebrow in question while I looked at him.
"Wait," I said, and my heart skipped a beat before it slowly started to pound harder and faster in my chest because I was worried that my question wouldn't be answered, and he raised an eyebrow in question while he paused in standing the whole way, his hands on the chair's armrest. "Are there Supernatural Creatures near here or live here?"
Justin cocked his head and studied me. He didn't say a word, and again, I could see the predatory piece that he tried to "hide."
Please, say yes, I silently prayed while I stared at him, making sure that my face was still neutral. Please, be honest with me and not leave me wondering if I see something from the corner of my eye and wonder what it is.
Finally, Justin sighed before he slowly nodded, deciding that he was going to tell me. "Yes," he said before he cleared his throat and stood all the way. He placed his hands behind his back and cleared his throat again. "Yes, there are such things as Supernatural Creatures near here. They are called Werewolves to be exact."
I slowly nodded while I pressed my lips into a thin line, making sure to keep the relief off of my face because I was pleased that he decided to tell me the truth. "Will I see them?" I asked and raised an eyebrow in question.
"Possibly," Justin said with a sharp nod. He cleared his throat and stood taller. "Now, if you will excuse me, I have to get some work done."
I hesitated and nodded before I stood. "Does that mean you will be able to help my group?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper while I raised an eyebrow in question, praying that they would be able to do something, and Justin nodded in confirmation.
"We will see what we can do for your group," he promised before he cleared his throat again. "Excuse me."
And with that, he bowed his head and left, leaving me alone, standing in the middle of the room.
I sighed and shook my head when the door closed before I moved a hand across my face and through my hair, grimacing.
Now, what had I gotten myself into..? I silently wondered while I walked over to my bed, feeling exhausted and wanting to just fall asleep and forget about everything for a little while. What is going to happen to me, now?
But more importantly, what will happen to my group..?
