Jason stood on the porch, fully dressed, with Justin by his side while we pulled up in the car. His whole body was relaxed, and his arms were behind his back with his hands clasped together.

My mouth went dry, and I stared at Jason with wide eyes filled with fear and nervousness. My heart pounded hard and fast in my chest while I stared at him, and I had no idea if I wanted to talk to the Alpha Male now or not.

"Are you ok?" Jill asked while she looked at me, and I had a feeling that she had heard my heartbeat. She pressed her lips into a thin line and furrowed her brows in worry. "You seem pale."

I nodded and bit the inside of my lip. "Nervous," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. I cleared my throat, shifted in my seat, and continued to stare at him. "What if it is bad news?"

"And what if it is good news?" Jill asked. She parked the car and cleared her throat while she shifted in her seat, tapping her finger against the steering wheel. "Or what if it is just an update about what they are doing?"

"And what if someone is dead?" I asked. I blinked back some tears that pricked the corner of my eyes before I cleared my throat and shifted in my seat. "I can't deal with it, Jill," I said. "What if someone died because I wasn't there?"

"And what if they are all alive?" Jill asked and raised an eyebrow in question. "You won't know unless you get out of the car and see."

I took a deep breath and released it with a small whoosh before I slowly nodded, pressing my lips into a thin line. "Are you coming with me?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. "Can you come with me?"

"I can," Jill said and nodded in confirmation, clearing her throat when her voice cracked. "Are you sure?"

I licked my lips and nodded in confirmation. "I am," I confirmed before I cleared my throat and shifted in my seat. "I want you there."

"Then I will be there with you," Jill promised and nodded. "Now, come on, we should go ahead and get out of the car and see what news Jason has for us."

I bit the inside of my lip and slowly nodded. I didn't say a word while I took off my seat belt and opened the car door, and Jill followed suit, biting back a small sigh of relief.

Jason stayed silent and watched as we exited the car. He tucked his head closer to his chest in greeting and bit back a small smile. "Miss Blaire," he said with a small hum in his voice. "How are you?"

I shrugged and grimaced before I tried to offer him a tight smile that didn't work. "I have been better," I admitted before I cleared my throat and shifted on my feet while I closed the car door. "Did you have news for me?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. "Is everyone ok?"

"Yes," he said and nodded in confirmation. "I have news, and I will answer your other question when we get inside." He gestured toward the house, and I followed his hand before I looked at him with wide eyes and lips pressed into a thin line. "Shall we enter the house and go to the office so that I can give the news to you in a more... comfortable setting?" He raised an eyebrow in question, silently daring me to tell him no.

I bit the inside of my lip harder and slowly nodded, hesitating. My heart skipped a beat before it started to pound hard and fast in my chest, leaping every so often into my throat and making it harder for me to breathe. "Let's," I said, my voice barely above a whisper before I cleared my throat and shifted on my feet. "Is it ok if Jill comes with us, please?"

Jason looked at Jill before he looked at me with a poker look on his face that I could not read and didn't like at all. "Would you like Juztin to be there as well?" He raised an eyebrow in question.

"Please," I said and nodded in confirmation. I hesitated and licked my lips before I made my way to them with Jill following behind me. "He can come and hear what is going on too."

"Then let's talk in my office," Justin said and offered me a grim smile while he tucked his head closer to his chest. "We will get your stuff later, if that is ok with you." He raised an eyebrow in question and studied me with a small frown on his face.

"It is," I said and nodded. "Thank you."

"Hmmm." Justin nodded and pulled Jill closer to him when she reached him. He placed a small kiss on her forehead, and Jill bit back a small chuckle while she buried herself closer to him.

I bit my tongue while I looked at them, and my heart ached before it became filled with pain and sadness.

Oh Gods, would something like that ever happen to me?

Or was I destined to be alone for all of eternity..?

An image of the brown haired and brown eyed boy filled my mind, and my heart skipped a beat before it pounded a little in my chest.

A part of me knew that he was tied to me somehow, even though I had no idea who he was or what it meant.

All I knew was that it felt like a part of me was with him while a part of him was with me, but I didn't know what that meant either and couldn't help but pray that I would be able to find out about it one day.

"Come on," Jason said and cleared his throat while he looked between the two of them, amused. "Let's go ahead and get this done. I have things that I need to do and want to accomplish before the day is done." He glanced at me from the corner of his eye before he looked at them, and I couldn't help but grow stiff.

"Of course," Jill said and bit back a small chuckle, and she nodded. She and Justin walked into the house, and I followed them with Jason following me.

We stayed silent while we walked to Justin's office, and my whole body grew tense while I looked around, and I was trying but failing to keep my mind from wandering over to the worse.

Were they safe? Were they even alive, or did Mrs. Garnes finally bit the bullet and killed every single one of those kids, not caring if they were adoptable or not?

My hands started to shake as soon as that thought crossed my mind while my mouth went dry, and I quickly stuffed my hands into my pocket so that no one would be able to see me slowly but surely losing my mind.

"Are you ok, Blaire?" Jason asked from behind me as if he saw my hands starting to shake before I stuffed them into my pocket. "What's wrong?"

Shit...

"Scared," I said, my voice barely above a whisper while I decided not to hide what I was feeling. "I don't know what's happening with my kids, and I am worried that I have done the wrong thing and hadn't fought hard trying to stay with them, a-"

"And everyone could still be there if you stayed and didn't go with Jill," Jason said, interrupting me, and I closed my mouth and pursed my lips in annoyance. "Why don't we pick up our pace so that we can talk about what happened. Ok?" He looked at Justin and Jill when he said.

Justin and Jill nodded before they picked up their pace while they walked to his office, and we followed them, matching their pace and getting there as quickly as we could with dread nipping at my heels.

And, as soon as we entered Justin's office, I couldn't help but turn my attention to the Alpha while I raised an eyebrow in question, not caring that I was disrespecting him at all. "Well?" I asked, and Jason raised an eyebrow in question, amused and not phased by my sudden bluntness.

"Well, what?" he asked and cocked his head while he studied me. "What is it? What's wrong?"

"What happened? What's going on with my group? Were you able to do anything to help them, or..." I shrugged and grimaced, not knowing if I wanted the other part of my question answered.

Or were we too late to do anything to help them live a normal life, and they were all killed by the psycho lady that was supposed to protect us all?
