Chapter Four

It wasn't until the sisters were done patching up Ravi when Rahman made it back. Their eyes widened in surprise.

"What? You said to come back with lots of moss," murmured the male in embarrassment. Rahman unloaded the large amount of springy, green moss he had managed to toss across his back onto the ground.

Neerah couldn't help but snort with laughter. "You looked like a walking, fuzzy green bush!" This earned her glares, making her flick her ears back in shame.

"Be nice," scolded Bai from where she lay by Dingo. He had a scowl on his face, which never left since his mate tackled him. The male saber was still greatly upset.

"Sorry, Mom..." Rac just shook her head in amusement. She looked down at her uncle, hoping he will pull through. He had lost a lot of blood so if he wakes up-no, when he wakes up, Ravi would be very weak. An involuntary whine slipped out and her head dropped low.

"What is it?" murmured Neerah from his other side. She had heard her sister, making the she-cat look up in alarm.

The young saber earned the attention of the whole pack at her response. "What if he doesn't wake up after all we did for him?" Rac's shaking voice caused all but Dingo's demeanor to sadden. The male had an almost pleased expression at the thought. It was gone in a heartbeat, but not before she saw it.

"He will. You must have faith," growled Rahman. He nuzzled his young sister with his large head softly, purring quietly.

"Thank you, Rahman. Thank you," Rac replied and nuzzled back. She felt a paw on her flank.

"Listen to your brother, he's a smart cat," purred Bai. She had left Dingo to sulk on his own to care for her cubs. They needed her more.

Light snow started to fall, along with a small breeze that lifted the flakes in small swirls along the ground. Bai and her cubs were piled around Ravi on his nest of soft moss Rahman had collected earlier that day. He was still unconscious, and a fever decided to wrack his body with violent shivers.

His nieces and nephew were trying their best to keep him warm, hoping to break the fever. They suspected Ravi might have an infection in his shoulder wound since it was open to the bone.

Rac opened one greenish gold eye at a sudden movement from one of her siblings, closing it heartbeats later when it stopped.

"Where's Dad?" For some reason, Nora's question sent Rac's blood from warm to frigid ice. She shot up from where she lay across her uncle's back and spun in circles. Dingo was nowhere to be found.
