Prologue
Third Person~
Mr. Jenson was a normal guy living in New York City. Getting through each day. Sitting in an office all day, filing bills and papers just trying to paying the bills. Staying in an apartment building and desperately wanting more. Little did he know he was going to get just that. Perhaps more than he could have bargained for.
. . .
Mr. Jenson sighed as he turned the key. The door swung open and he walked in, closed the door, and plopped down on the couch, dejectedly. Another hard day at work similar to that one, and he wouldn't be able to get up the next day.
He slicked back his fair hair that was beginning to slide down into his eyes.
Mr. Jenson, despite being fifty, he wouldn't look old at all if it wasn't for his stress. Instead of looking fifty or younger, he looked older. His hair had multiple streaks of grey mixed in with his fair, short hair. He had wrinkles that crinkled at the ends of his eyes from when he used to smile a lot. But it was obvious he didn't do that much anymore.
He took the remote from the coffee table and turned on the television. The news report came on and he watched, not really listening.
"The Police Department is worried for people's safety. It appears that there isn't just one person behind the recent attacks. Different faces have been identified, and the PD is doing their best to look for them, but there are more faces that the police department has been unable to identify. They vandalized a children's hospital and left a graffiti message. The PD has blocked off the area for investigators.
"The message read, and I quote; 'We are the Falcons. You will never see us coming. There are hundreds of us. You can't stop us. Cheers, the Falcons.'
"But the PD assures us that they have the situation under control, but do they? Are lives at risk? What if-"
He shut off the television screen and groaned.
"Stupid kids...Youngsters these days..."
Mr. Jenson let out a yawn, not realizing how tired he really was. His eyes watered and he got up. He layed in bed, his clothing still on, and fell asleep.
. . .
His head shot up like a hound dog, and recalled when he smelt smoke. His eyes watered, and suddenly, he had trouble breathing. What was happening?
He heard numbed voices and the unmistakable wail of the siren from a fire truck roaring to life.
He stumbled to the window. The sky was black, but smoke filled the sky. The sky was black and ashen, lifeless. No stars. No moon. The sky was practically dead.
He then saw people yelling and pointing.
'Pointing isn't polite. . .' Mr. Jenson thought, confused. The people were uniformed. There was a red truck.
'Firemen . . . but why are they here?' He thought. He was struggling to think. His thoughts were jumbled and unclear; like he was drugged. Suddenly, his mouth felt scratchy and his voice couldn't escape his throat.
He blinked. Then he blinked again.
The Firemen were pointing at him. They were yelling for him. But he was on the tenth floor. He could barely see them with the lights and his perfect vision, let alone hear them.
But then he got another whiff of the vile smoke. He tried to walk to the door, but his legs seemed to go out from under him, and he fell flat on his face. But he could barely register the pain. His consciousness seemed to be seeping away. Everything seemed so far away . . .
Then he saw a frightening sight. Bright flames, licking the walls. They danced around, consuming everything . . . closing in on him.
He couldn't breathe anymore. His voice seemed to be trying to make a sound, but a scratchy sound came out instead. It was over.
But then, there was a crash. But Mr. Jenson wasn't paying attention. He was about to die.
Strong, slender arms were suddenly around him, and he was lifted up.
He coughed, his lungs begging for air. He didn't have time to think, though. Nothing made sense, but that was only natural, his brain wasn't working.
Then, he felt dizzy and the strong urge to upchuck as they plummeted ten stories. They should have died, but somehow, they landed gracefully, the person light on their feet.
Then, suddenly, his lungs got the air they so desperately craved. He blinked. Then, he blinked again. Slowly, he started to be able to think.
They were on the other side of the building. Away from the firemen and fire trucks.
Instead of questioning, he looked up at his savior. But the sky was too dark and ashen to see anything properly.
So he asked her one question. A question nearly impossible to answer.
"Who are you?"
The voice chuckled and said in a female voice. "Me? Why, I am Invisible."
And then she was gone. No trace of her. She truly was Invisible.
With that last though, sleep overtook him.
