Chapter 9
*My POV*
Beverly's perfect place was the cliff we jumped off all those years ago as kids. We had to help Eddie over the wood. We all jumped off the cliff one by one as we took our shoes and jackets off. We all swam to the shallow end of the lake.
We were cleaning ourselves from all that shit that we got covered in. Eddie of course was complaining about the water. "This water is so fucking disgusting." Eddie said. "Come on dude, it's the only place we could go that people wouldn't question us." Richie said as he was cleaning his cracked glasses in the water.
"You know guys. Stan would've loved this. Aside from all the disgusting shit in here." Ben said as we all chuckled. "He'd be telling Eddie to grow a pair and stop complaining." I said as Bill was hugging me from behind.
"He would've made us laugh during all of this." Mike said as we all smiled. "He's looking out for us from beyond the grave. Probably here with us right now." Eddie said with a small chuckle. Suddenly we heard a small sob.
We all looked at Richie and saw him sobbing. We all swam to him and hugged him as we held hands. "It's okay, Rich." Eddie said softly as he laid his forehead on Richie's. We all enjoyed the moment together.
"Oh. Thank you. I don't have my glasses on, so I don't know who you people are, but thank you." Richie said causing us to all laugh at his words. "I legit can't find my glasses." Richie said causing us to look at him.
"You're serious?" Ben asked. "Glasses?" Beverly asked before all of us except Richie and Eddie dived into the water to find Richie's glasses.
*3rd POV*
"Okay, listen, Eds. You know I'm not one for confessions, but I can't keep this to myself anymore." Richie said causing Eddie to face him. "Uh, sure. What is it?" Eddie asked confused. "I've been in love with you since were kids." Richie said, causing Eddie to freeze as his neck, cheeks and ears turned red.
"...Really?" Eddie asked in a small voice. "Yes. I know it's not ideal. You're married and--" Richie began but was cut off as Eddie pressed his lips to Richie's shocking the trashmouth. Richie blinked before kissing back.
They pulled apart and put their foreheads on each other's. "I love you too, dickhead." Eddie muttered to him quietly. "I can't see them." Bill's voice said in the distance. "Oh, I see them. Right there." Izzy said as her and Bill were looking in the same spot.
*My POV*
As Bill looked down to where I was pointing, I dunked him into the water and followed him.
*3rd POV*
"Anybody have any luck?" Ben and Beverly's voice rang out before they saw Bill and Izzy disappear into the water. They chuckled. Ben pulled Beverly close and kissed her head as she smiled.
*My POV*
Bill grabbed Richie's glasses and as he went to swim up, I stopped him by grabbing his collar. We stared at each other under the water for a few moments, before we held each other's faces and kissed softly. We kept kissing as we held onto each other before we pulled apart and swam up to get some air.
Sometime later
We were walking through the streets of Derry as Bill and me held hands, along with Ben and Beverly. But soon Bev looked at her hand. "Hey, guys." She said causing us all to face her as she pointed at her hand where her scar once was, only to show that it was gone.
We all looked at our palms, and we saw them all gone. "Nothing lasts forever." Mike said as we all looked at each other before we looked into the glass ahead of us as if we were remembering something.
27 years back
All of us were looking at ourselves in the glass as we walked our bikes back from that hellhole house. "I can't go home like this, guys. My mom will kill me." Eddie said as he was covered in dried vomit.
"Dude, you've been gone for 24 straight hours. Your face is definitely on a milk carton by now. Also, that puke smells worse than your mom's slippers." Richie said. "Oh, shut up, Richie." Beverly said as we looked at him.
"Okay, first of all, my mom's slippers smell like potpourri, asshole." Eddie said as we all began to walk with our bikes. "No, they don't." Stan said. "Yes, they do. And, also, how would you know what they smell like in the first place?" Eddie asked.
"Can we just keep it quiet, please until we get home?" Mike asked as we all kept walking. "Eddie, potpourri is literally a French word meaning rotten pot." Ben told Eddie. "I knew there was something rotten about it." Richie said as we all kept walking. "And we're back to arguing like married couples." I said as we all continued walking.
27 years later, plus a week goes by
Bill sighs as he was writing his book when his cell phone rang. He opened it to see Mike calling. I walked into Bill's office carrying two mugs of coffee. "Mike?" Bill asked as he had the phone on speaker as I gave him one of the mugs.
"Hey." Mike said chuckling. "I just thought I'd check up on you and the future Mrs. Denbrough. You know, just to see if you learned how to finish a book for once." Mike said causing the three of us to chuckle.
"I just finished the first chapter, and the future Mrs. Denbrough has been helping with my wording. And I think I actually know where I'm going this time." Bill said as he got up and walked to the window.
"Good." Mike said through the call. "Say, can I ask you a question?" I asked Mike. "Sure." Mike said. "Why do you think we're not forgetting? You know, like last time?" I asked Mike as I sat down next to Bill.
"Maybe 'cause It's dead. Or maybe 'cause we have more we want to remember than we want to forget." Mike said. "I like that one." Bill said softly. "You decide what you want to do? About leaving Derry?" I asked.
"Man, I've been in this cell for 27 years. Just seeing what It wanted me to. I think it's time I saw the sky for a change." Mike said to us over the phone. "Go get it, Mikey." Bill said. "Oh, did you get the letter?" Mike asked.
"What letter?" Bill asked. "You'll know when you see it." Mike said. "Well, hold on. Izz and I just got the mail." Bill said as I got up and walked to his desk. "Well, we all got one." Mike said as I moved some mail to find two letters.
"Patricia Uris?" I asked. "Just... Just read them." Mike said. "Okay." Bill said as he got up and joined me at his desk. "And call me. Anytime. Both of you." Mike said. "We will." Bill said. "And Bill, Izzy. I love you two." Mike said.
"We love you too." Bill said. "All right. See you around." Mike said as he hung up. I gave Bill his letter and I held mine as we opened them.
"Dear Losers,
I know what this must seem like, but this isn't a suicide note.
You're probably wondering why I did what I did.
It's because I knew I was too scared to go back.
And if we weren't together, if all of us alive, weren't united, I knew we'd all die.
So, I made the only logical move. I took myself off the board."
Stan's note said as Bill and I put our letters down as I had tears and Bill pulled me close letting me bury my face in his chest.
"Did it work?
Well, if you're reading this, you know the answer."
*3rd POV*
Richie and Eddie were leaving Derry together. They were at the Kissing Bridge as Richie and Eddie carved their initials into the bridge.
"I lived my whole life afraid.
Afraid of what would come next.
Afraid of what I might leave behind.
Don't.
Be who you want to be.
Be proud."
Richie and Eddie smiled at the carving as they leaned their heads against each other's.
Meanwhile
Ben and Beverly were on vacation together as they both sat on a boat with their dog. "You sleep okay?" Ben asked Beverly as he joined her. "Yeah. I had a beautiful dream." Beverly said smiling.
"And if you find someone worth holding on to, never ever let them go."
Meanwhile
Mike got in his car as he opened his journal and found the old pictures him and the others took when they were kids.
"Follow your own path.
Wherever that takes you."
A flashback appeared in all the Losers' minds as they saw their younger selves riding their bikes together happily.
"Think of this letter as a promise." Stan's voice said.
"A promise I'm asking you to make." Eddie's voice said.
"To me." Mike's voice said.
"To each other." Ben's voice said.
"An oath." Beverly's voice said.
"See, the thing about being a Loser is you don't have anything to lose.
So..."
Mike was driving out of Derry with all his belongings and a smile on his face.
"Be true." Young Richie said.
"Be brave." Young Eddie said.
"Stand." Young Mike said.
"Believe." Young Beverly said.
"And don't ever forget..." Young Bill said.
"We're Losers." Young Izzy said.
"And we always will be." Young Stan said.
To all the Losers, they had finally gotten rid of what haunted them most. And they planned to keep it that way.
