Chapter Twenty-Two

*****

It had been six months since Mitch and I had started dating and almost everyone was very supportive, besides his die hard fangirls, but what can you do about them? Reading some of their fan fiction is a great way to pass the time and get a good laugh out of it.

We had been very nervous to release it to the public, as their are some very opinionated people out there, and at first their hate got to me but after a while I realized it was probably just jealousy. I mean, I know I got a tiny bit jealous a few years back when some of my celebrity crushes got girlfriends.

The entire team was embarrassing when they found out but luckily I was leaving shortly after to go on a quick trip with Maisie. I hadn't told Mitch yet at that point but it was to celebrate me finding a career in being a personal trainer. Mike Babcock had come to me with the job offer before the Leafs organization went elsewhere because he knew how into fitness I am and just told me that as long as I go for school for it, I can start training some players for the new season.

Finally, here we are now, at the beginning of the 2017-18 season. I didn't have to go with the team on every road trip, but this one was a bit lengthy and Babs asked me to join them. Obviously I agreed, who would take down the chance to do a bit of travelling?

"Hey, O, are you almost packed?" I heard Mitch say after I picked up the phone.

"Well good morning to you too. Yes, I'm packed. I just have to get together the little things now."

"Cool, I'll pick you up in an hour then." He said before we hung up.

"What am I going to do without my best friend for a week?" Maisie groaned and fell on to my bed.

"Make some new friends." I said and lightly laughed.

"Impossible, after having you as my best friend for years, there is no way I could ever be friends with anyone else. You've made me crazy." She said, twisting what I thought was going to be a compliment.

"Wow, thanks Mais. You're pretty cool, too." I said flatly.

"I'm well aware." She said before getting up again. "I actually did meet one girl at work though, I'm thinking of asking her to hangout while you're gone. I mean, it's no you, but she'll do."

"Just don't replace me. I'll be back."

"I would never." Maisie replied with a grin. "I do actually have to go run some errands, though. I'm assuming you'll be gone by the time I get back." She sighed and stood up from my bed.

"Yeah, probably." I shrugged and opened my arms up for a hug. "Now, don't cry like last time, I'll be back in a week." I teased her.

"No promises." Her voice cracked half-way through saying that, indicating that a stream of tears would fall if we didn't end this goodbye soon. "I'll see you in a week." She said as she pulled away and wiped a tear from under her eye.

"Yeah, only a week. Aren't you going to say goodbye to Nikita?" I asked her.

"He's in my room, I have to go wake him up." She said and was about to leave my room.

"Maisie, why didn't you tell me? I wasn't wearing pants earlier!" I whisper-yelled.

"I forgot, I guess." She said with a shrug and left, shutting my door behind her. I rolled my at her but finished getting ready to leave. I packed the extra things along the way and before I knew it Mitch was picking me up.

"Hey, you ready?" He asked when I greeted him at the door.

"Yup, I've got everything." I nodded. "See you later, Maisie!" I yelled out to my roommate and followed Mitch down the hallway.

The boys were at a quick practice since we arrived earlier than expected so I had went to the gym. Not for long, just so I can say I did it. I was almost done when I felt my phone buzz in my pocket.

"Hey, Mitchy." I said once I answered the phone.

"Hey, where are you?" He asked me. He must have gone back to the hotel early.

"The gym, should I go back now?" I asked him as I wiped away some sweat with a towel.

"Preferably, yes. I have a surprise for you." He said quickly, excitement in his voice. "Love you, see you in a bit."

"Love you too." I said and hung up the phone. I took a quick shower before I headed back to the hotel room.

"Hey, what is the-" I began to speak but was cut off when I saw the scene in front of me. Mitch had a movie ready with dinner still hot on trays next to the bed.

"I was hoping you'd be okay with staying in tonight." He smiled in his pyjamas.

"Obviously." I said with a grin. "I just need to change quickly."

I climbed into bed and got under the covers once I was also in my pyjamas. I snuggled into his side and went to press play when he stopped me. "I have one more surprise." He said and reached into the bedside table. He took out a little box and opened it up to reveal the ring inside.

"It's a promise ring. I promise to be faithful to you and forever your's. I promise to never hurt you and always love you. I promise to go to bed every night happy, because I love you." He spoke softly to me as he put the ring on my finger.

"I love you too, Mitchy." I replied as a stray tear fell down my cheek. "And I promise to you all of those things too.

A/N this literally took forever to get a good ending but there it is. It's done. I will not be doing a second book, unless it's really wanted or I decide to in a couple of months.
